That makes an Indian Mastercard debit card an accepted card type, but does not guarantee that a particular card or transaction will be approved. To add the card, use Cost Management + Billing in the Azure portal and follow the steps for your billing agreement.
The title may also sound like a question about streaming YouTube from an Azure VM. The instructions below address paying the Azure bill; they do not assume that the VM is being used to run a YouTube stream.
Can you use an Indian debit card for Azure?
Microsoft’s payment-method documentation says, “India supports credit and debit cards through Visa and Mastercard.” Microsoft Learn: Add, update, or delete a payment method lists both networks for Indian Azure customers. A Mastercard debit card is therefore an eligible card type, subject to Azure’s checks and the issuing bank’s authorization.
Eligibility does not mean every card will work. Microsoft’s country payment table excludes virtual and prepaid cards, so check the specific card type and the options shown in your account. See Microsoft’s supported payment methods by country or region.

Add your debit card in the Azure portal
The exact route and permission needed depend on the billing agreement for the subscription. Microsoft’s instructions cover both Microsoft Online Subscription Program (MOSP, including pay-as-you-go) and Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) billing.
- Sign in to the Azure portal with an account that has the required billing access.
- Open Cost Management + Billing.
- Select the relevant subscription if it is a MOSP/pay-as-you-go account, or select the appropriate billing profile for an MCA account.
- Open Payment methods and choose the option to add a payment method.
- Enter the debit-card details and complete the verification prompt. Microsoft says an OTP is generated for customers in India when adding a new payment method.
For a MOSP pay-as-you-go subscription, the account administrator manages the payment instrument. For an MCA account, you need the appropriate billing permissions. If you cannot see or change payment methods, confirm which billing agreement and role apply to your account. Refer to Microsoft’s payment-method instructions for the applicable account path.

Choose how to pay an Azure bill
Azure charges for cloud usage through the subscription. The payment method saved to the billing account and the options available on an individual bill may differ. For India, Microsoft documents these workflows:

If the debit-card payment is declined
- Check the card type. Confirm it is a supported Visa or Mastercard debit card and not a virtual or prepaid card excluded by Microsoft’s payment-method guidance.
- Complete the verification step. When adding a new method in India, follow the OTP prompt; if it does not arrive, check with the card issuer and try again when the verification issue is resolved.
- Check Azure’s available payment action. If an automatic charge was declined, open the bill and look for Pay now. It is available only where Microsoft offers it for that account and bill.
- Use another displayed one-time option if eligible. UPI or NetBanking may be available for eligible Indian billing accounts. The portal’s prompt determines what you can use for that bill.
- Ask the issuer about authorization. A supported network does not guarantee bank approval. Your bank can confirm whether it declined the transaction or requires an account or transaction setting to be changed.
India’s card and recurring-payment requirements can change. Microsoft’s billing guidance discusses regulatory context and updates, but it does not establish a single recurring-charge limit that applies to every Azure customer or transaction. Follow the current payment prompt and applicable guidance rather than relying on a historical threshold.
