With Playwright, navigate to the page, wait 10,000 milliseconds, take the screenshot, and close the browser. The sequence is simple; the important distinction is whether you truly need a fixed ten-second delay or whether you need to wait for a particular page condition. A fixed delay is literal, but it can make automated tests flaky when pages load at different speeds.
Capture a page after a fixed ten-second delay with Playwright
Playwright’s timeout API uses milliseconds, so ten seconds is 10000. This complete JavaScript example opens a page, waits for the navigation’s load event, pauses for ten seconds, saves a full-page PNG, and then closes the browser.

The order matters: navigate, wait, capture, close. Because the delay begins after page.goto resolves, this example waits ten seconds after the page reaches the chosen navigation condition; it does not measure ten seconds from the instant navigation starts.
Decide whether you need a fixed delay or a readiness condition
Use the ten-second sleep when elapsed time is the requirement
page.waitForTimeout(10000) means exactly “pause this script for ten seconds.” It is appropriate when the requirement explicitly says to capture after that interval—for example, when observing a page at a defined point in time. It does not prove that a particular image, widget, or other piece of content has appeared.

Prefer a condition when you need specific content
For production automation and tests, a fixed sleep can be flaky: a fast page wastes time, while a slow page may still be changing when the timer ends. Playwright advises against waiting for a timeout in production tests and recommends waiting for a meaningful signal instead. Selenium’s documentation describes the related race: navigation can reach a chosen ready state while JavaScript continues to change the page. When the real requirement is “capture once this content is ready,” wait for that content rather than treating ten seconds as proof of readiness.
Playwright’s page.goto supports the navigation conditions load, domcontentloaded, networkidle, and commit. Choose the condition that matches what the capture needs; these are navigation milestones, not guarantees that every dynamic part of a page has finished changing. Playwright also discourages relying on networkidle for tests. If the requirement is a specific element, use an explicit selector-based wait for that element before taking the screenshot.
Choose the screenshot area and image format
Full page or viewport
Use page.screenshot() for a page capture. Setting fullPage: true requests the entire page; omit it when you want the visible viewport. A full-page capture can be much taller than a screen, so use it only when the extra page content is useful to the task.

One element instead of the whole page
If the target is one chart, card, or other component, capture its locator rather than the whole page. Playwright’s locator screenshot scrolls the target into view and waits for actionability before capture. That is useful when the element itself is the deliverable; it is not a substitute for a fixed ten-second wait if elapsed time is part of the requirement. If both matter, perform the required wait and then capture the locator.
PNG, JPEG, or WebP
Playwright screenshot output supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP. The example uses PNG through the .png output path. Choose an image type that suits the next step in your workflow, and make the output filename and format agree. If the exact capture API options vary by Playwright version, check the official Playwright documentation for the version installed in your project.

Troubleshoot a missing or unexpected screenshot
The screenshot is taken before the page looks ready
A ten-second pause only establishes that ten seconds elapsed after navigation returned; it does not establish that dynamic content finished rendering. If a particular element is missing, replace the fixed sleep with a wait for that element, or add the content-specific condition before capture. If elapsed time is itself the requirement, retain the delay and treat the result as a snapshot at that time, not a readiness guarantee.

The script waits too long or still captures a changing page
Check the selected waitUntil value. A navigation event such as load and a later JavaScript update are separate events. A fixed sleep adds the same delay regardless of whether the page was ready earlier; a condition-based wait better matches a task whose completion depends on content.
The output is only the visible screen
Confirm that the call is a page screenshot and that fullPage: true is present when you need the full page. For one component, use a locator screenshot instead. Those choices change what is captured; they do not change the ten-second timing rule.

The file type does not match the requested output
Check the screenshot options and the output filename. Playwright supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP; use the format required by the next application and keep the file extension consistent with it.

The browser stays open after an error
Put browser cleanup in a finally block, as in the example. That way, an error during navigation or screenshot capture does not skip the close call.
Make delayed captures more reliable and economical
- Use a fixed pause only for a fixed-time requirement. Otherwise, wait for the content the screenshot is meant to show.
- Keep the capture scope narrow. A locator screenshot avoids capturing unrelated page areas when only one element matters.
- Choose full-page capture deliberately. It is useful for a complete page record, while a viewport screenshot is more appropriate for what a visitor sees on screen.
- Close the browser reliably. Cleanup in
finallyhelps avoid leaving an automation browser open after failures. - Do not assume a successful navigation means a stable page. Modern pages may continue changing after the selected ready state, so match the wait to the content and purpose of the capture.
