A relay usually reduces the upload bandwidth and encoding load required at your computer; direct multi-output gives you more control but requires enough upload capacity and computer resources for every feed. First confirm that each account can go live, especially TikTok, then connect destinations, configure the stream, and verify each platform’s preview and health indicators.
Before you start: confirm access and choose your route
Multistreaming means broadcasting the same live program to multiple services at the same time. You need a live-capable account on each destination and a way to connect your encoder to each service, either through a relay or individual RTMP server URLs and stream keys. Account access, platform policies, software features, and interface labels can change, so check the current requirements for your accounts and plans before going live.
- Choose a cloud relay if you want to send one feed from your computer and have a service distribute it to selected destinations. That can reduce local upload demand and centralize destination selection; relay features and destination limits vary.
- Choose local multi-output encoding if your encoder supports the destinations and your computer and connection can sustain the extra encoding and outgoing feeds.
- Check Twitch’s simulcasting policy and any agreement attached to your account. Twitch’s guidance says its rules apply except where an agreement requires exclusivity; it also prohibits using Twitch to direct viewers to another live stream and identifies degradation of the Twitch viewing experience as a policy issue. Read the current Twitch simulcasting guidelines before streaming.
- Confirm TikTok LIVE access. Encoder access is not guaranteed for every account. The reviewed Restream integration guide describes an application flow and a manual application option, but does not establish a universal current eligibility threshold. Check what your account can access rather than relying on a follower-count claim.
How much upload speed multistreaming needs
For direct local outputs, calculate bandwidth from the sum of the outgoing target bitrates, not from just one stream. YouTube’s example adds a 6 Mbps stream and a 4 Mbps stream to reach a combined 10 Mbps target bitrate. Its guidance recommends upload capacity around 1.5 to 2 times the total target—15–20 Mbps in that example—for stability, particularly on a shared connection. This is an example calculation, not a universal bitrate prescription: YouTube’s recommended encoder ranges depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. See YouTube’s live encoder guidance.
Run a speed test under realistic conditions, including other people or devices using the connection. Leave headroom rather than planning to use the entire measured upload capacity. While live, monitor YouTube’s Live Control Room stream-health indicators and the corresponding previews or status tools on the other services. If you use a cloud relay, your connection sends the feed to the relay, which distributes copies; the relay still needs to be able to deliver to the selected destinations.

Method 1: OBS with a cloud relay
This route uses OBS to send a single feed to a multistream service, which then forwards it to the platforms you select. The exact account-connection and dashboard labels depend on the relay; Restream documents account or key-based OBS connection, while Streamlabs describes using a custom RTMP URL and key with other streaming software.
- Verify destination access. Confirm you can start a live broadcast from each account. Connect or authorize the destination accounts in your chosen relay, following its current prompts.
- Set OBS to send to the relay. In OBS, open the stream settings and select the relay service if it is listed. Otherwise, paste the relay’s server URL and stream key into the fields the relay provides. Do not use a destination’s key in place of the relay’s key for this one-feed workflow.
- Select destinations and metadata. In the relay dashboard, enable YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, and Facebook as available, then set titles, categories, or descriptions for each where the service supports separate metadata.
- Start the feed and check every destination. Start streaming from OBS, then verify that each platform receives the broadcast and shows a healthy preview. Check YouTube’s Live Control Room health indicators rather than assuming that a successful OBS connection means every destination is receiving video.

Method 2: Streamlabs Desktop
Streamlabs’ workflow is to link accounts, choose destinations in its go-live controls, and configure stream details. Its quick setup guide describes a shared title and description route with advanced per-platform settings. The current feature page describes toggles for accounts, custom RTMP, and a free Dual Output option for one horizontal and one vertical destination; it describes broader Multistream as an Ultra feature. Confirm current availability and plan limits before relying on a particular destination combination.
- Link the supported platform accounts in Streamlabs Desktop and confirm each is authorized for live streaming.
- Choose the destinations you intend to use in the go-live controls. If a destination is not available through account linking, use a supported custom RTMP configuration only if the platform and Streamlabs workflow permit it.
- Set a shared title and description, then use advanced per-platform controls for destination-specific details where available.
- Preview the output and check each destination after going live. A horizontal-plus-vertical output option does not by itself guarantee that every service or account can receive that layout.

Method 3: send separate outputs from a local encoder
A local multi-output setup sends a separate feed from your computer to each service where your software and credentials support it. It provides direct control over outputs, but can require more encoding capacity and more upload bandwidth than sending one feed to a relay.
- Collect the server URL and stream key for each destination that requires RTMP credentials. Store keys securely and do not share them; anyone with a usable key may be able to broadcast to that destination.
- In your encoder, configure an output for each service using that destination’s current server URL, key, and supported settings. The exact menus depend on the encoder; there is no single fixed OBS menu path for every multi-output plugin or workflow.
- Set the target bitrate for each output, add the bitrates together, and confirm the connection has sufficient upload headroom. Also confirm the computer can encode all configured outputs without dropped frames or overload.
- Start the outputs and verify each platform’s preview, audio, and stream health. If one feed fails, inspect that output’s connection and credentials without assuming the other destinations have also failed.
YouTube describes local hardware or software encoding as an option for people who want control and have a powerful computer. Its encoder guidance explains that recommended ranges vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate; choose settings against the guidance for your actual output rather than copying a bitrate intended for a different format.

Do not assume one horizontal canvas will appear identically on all four services. The Restream guide says TikTok can transcode horizontal streams, but presentation behavior and eligibility may change; check your account’s current live workflow and preview the destination before relying on a single layout. Streamlabs describes a Dual Output option for one horizontal and one vertical destination, which may help when your plan and selected destinations support it. If you prepare separate layouts, keep essential text and action inside safe areas that remain visible in each preview.

Common multistream problems and fixes
- Stream connects in the encoder but a platform is blank: Check that destination’s authorization or RTMP URL and key, verify it is selected in the relay or encoder, and inspect its platform preview. A connection to the relay alone does not confirm all destinations are receiving the feed.
- Video stutters or drops frames across direct outputs: Compare the combined target bitrates with measured upload capacity, reduce output bitrates or resolution if needed, and check whether the computer is overloaded. YouTube recommends 1.5–2 times the combined target bitrate as upload headroom in its example guidance.
- Only one platform has a problem: Treat it as a destination-specific issue first. Recheck that service’s account access, key, server URL, selected destination, and current live status.
- TikTok is missing or cannot go live: Confirm LIVE access on the account and the currently supported connection path. Do not assume that connecting an account automatically grants eligibility.
- Titles or categories are wrong on one service: Check whether the tool uses shared metadata or per-platform settings, then edit that destination’s details in the tool or platform workflow where supported.
- A Twitch stream conflicts with another destination: Review Twitch’s current simulcasting guidelines and any agreement that applies to your account; do not direct Twitch viewers to another live stream or degrade their Twitch viewing experience.
