To multistream from OBS, send your program feed either to each platform directly or to a cloud relay that distributes one OBS feed to multiple destinations. Direct output gives you more control but makes your computer encode and upload each stream; a relay reduces local workload and can simplify distribution. First make sure YouTube live streaming is enabled, gather the server URL and stream key for each destination, and test the full setup at the quality you plan to use.
Choose how OBS will reach multiple platforms
| Approach | Where distribution happens | Best fit and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Local OBS output | Your computer encodes and sends streams to destinations. | Offers control and may suit a powerful computer, but the device must handle the encoding and network workload for the configured outputs. |
| Cloud relay | OBS sends one feed to a service, which distributes it to selected destinations. | Reduces local workload and simplifies sending to several channels. YouTube suggests considering a relay when streaming to more than two channels. Service destination support, plan limits, quality and price vary. |
YouTube describes simulstreaming as distributing the same live content to multiple platforms. Its guidance says that sufficient upload capacity is critical, but there is no universal speed target that fits every resolution, bitrate and destination. YouTube’s simulstreaming guidance compares local and cloud approaches and advises testing under realistic conditions.
Check YouTube and destination requirements before setup
Enable YouTube live streaming
Your YouTube channel must be verified, live streaming must be enabled, and the channel must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take at least 24 hours after you request it, so do not leave setup until broadcast day. Review YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements.
Prepare each other platform
Make sure each destination account is active and in good standing. Use that platform’s current official instructions to determine whether it accepts encoder input and to locate the required RTMP server URL and stream key. Requirements differ by platform and can change; do not assume that one platform’s ingest details or settings work on another.

Keep stream keys private
YouTube’s encoder workflow provides a server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in screenshots, share it in public documents or expose it while explaining your setup. YouTube outlines its encoder workflow in Set up your encoder for live streaming.
Set up an OBS multistream workflow
- Choose your path. For direct local output, use an OBS workflow that supports the destinations you need. For a cloud relay, configure OBS to send one feed to the relay, then select the destinations there. Exact OBS controls depend on your OBS version and the plugin or relay you choose; the available guidance does not establish one universal menu path or configuration.
- Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and retrieve its server URL and stream key for encoder setup. Keep these credentials private.
- Collect each destination’s ingest details. Follow the platform’s current official encoder instructions and obtain its RTMP server URL and stream key when required. Confirm that the account can go live and that the destination supports your chosen local or relay workflow.
- Configure the outputs. Enter YouTube’s encoder details in the YouTube destination configuration. Add other destinations only through a workflow that supports their current ingest requirements, or configure the relay to distribute the OBS feed. The exact steps and limits depend on the software, service and platforms involved.
- Test before going public. Use a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast with the intended resolution, frame rate, audio and destinations. Check YouTube’s stream health indicators, and confirm that each destination receives the expected picture and sound. YouTube specifically advises a realistic bandwidth test with audio and video active as they will be during the broadcast.
Plan upload capacity and YouTube stream limits
More destinations can require more upload capacity when your computer sends a separate stream to each one. With a cloud relay, OBS sends its feed to the service, which then handles distribution; the relay still has its own plan and destination constraints. Test using your actual settings and active audio and video rather than relying on an abstract speed target. YouTube’s advice is: “For high-quality simulstreaming, sufficient Internet upload speed is critical for the live streams to work properly.”

YouTube’s current help guidance, retrieved in 2026, sets a simultaneous limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at once; they are YouTube limits, not limits for every multistream service. See YouTube’s current simulstreaming guidance.
Troubleshoot common multistream problems
- YouTube will not start the stream: Check that live streaming is enabled, the channel is verified and eligible, and the stream URL and key match the current Live Control Room broadcast. If this is your first activation, allow at least 24 hours.
- A destination does not receive video: Verify that its account can go live, the server URL and stream key are current, and the workflow you chose supports that platform’s ingest method.
- The picture or sound is wrong on one platform: Check the OBS output and the destination’s received feed separately. Confirm the selected audio and video sources and repeat a test with the intended broadcast settings.
- The broadcast is unstable: Test upload capacity with the complete stream active. If local encoding and multiple outputs burden the computer, consider a cloud relay; it shifts distribution work away from the local machine, though plan limits and destination support still matter.
- An additional YouTube stream will not start: Check whether the channel already has 10 active streams or the stream key already has 3. End streams you no longer need before trying again.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that needs prerecorded video to stay live 24/7, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live.
