Yes—a 24/7 YouTube livestream can earn money, but being live around the clock does not unlock monetization or guarantee ad revenue. You need access to the relevant YouTube Partner Program (YPP) features, a stream that complies with YouTube’s policies and rights rules, and a plan for ads and other income. As of October 3, 2026, live watch time can help with YPP eligibility only when the stream is public and its replay is converted to video on demand (VOD).
What can earn money on a 24/7 livestream?
Eligible channels can earn through Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium viewing, live-stream ads, fan-funding features, eligible Shopping features, and brand partnerships. Each route has different eligibility and operating requirements; none guarantees a particular income.

Meet the YPP requirements that match your goal
YouTube has an earlier expanded-YPP entry path in eligible countries and a higher threshold for ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing. The lower threshold does not, by itself, provide ad revenue sharing.

These are the thresholds listed in YouTube’s YPP guidance as of October 3, 2026; availability and feature rules can vary by country or region and may change. Check the YPP overview and the expanded-YPP overview, then confirm what your account currently shows in YouTube Studio. Reaching a numeric threshold lets you apply; YouTube reviews the channel and acceptance is not automatic.
Other standard YPP entry conditions
YouTube also lists requirements beyond subscriber and viewing thresholds. These include living in a country or region where YPP is available, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, turning on two-step verification, having access to advanced features, and linking an AdSense for YouTube account or being ready to set one up. Consult the current YPP overview for the full conditions that apply to your account.
Make livestream watch time count correctly
For YPP watch-hour qualification, YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. If you are relying on a public livestream to build qualified watch hours, keep it public and preserve its replay as a VOD. A long broadcast does not automatically mean every hour will qualify: check the eligible watch-time definition and your account’s Earn progress.

Enable and manage live-stream ads
YouTube’s live monetization guidance says, “If your channel is monetized and monetization is turned on for your live stream, YouTube will trigger ads to serve on your content.” The same guidance cautions that ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. YouTube recommends automatic live mid-rolls. It reports that creators who chose automatic live mid-roll ads saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that had not enabled the setting. This is YouTube’s comparison across 207 countries in January 2024, not an independently verified causal result or a forecast for an individual channel. YouTube also says scheduled or manual placement may have lower earnings potential than automatic mode. No setting guarantees an ad will be served.

To configure monetization, use YouTube Studio’s live-stream controls for the stream and available ad settings; interface labels can change. Confirm that the channel and stream are eligible, monetization is on, and the required Watch Page Monetization Module has been accepted. Do not treat ad placement as a substitute for a viewer-friendly program: build natural pauses into content if you choose scheduled or manual interruptions.
Make the stream eligible for monetization review
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams as well as Shorts and long-form video. Its policy note dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced material has long been ineligible under the requirement for original and authentic work. Reviewers may assess the channel as a whole, including its main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the content responsible for the greatest share of watch time, metadata, and About section. Give the stream a clear original contribution
Make it evident what you create or add for viewers. Depending on the channel, that could mean original camera or gameplay footage with commentary, distinct programming blocks, educational context, active hosting, or a meaningfully curated feed with the necessary rights. These are practical editorial approaches, not guaranteed ways to pass review. Merely changing a title or overlay, or looping a playlist of other people’s material, does not establish that reused content meets YouTube’s originality requirements.

YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to hold the necessary rights to live content worldwide, including music rights, and to follow applicable laws and rules. A music or ambient stream needs rights that cover the actual YouTube rebroadcast; a subscription to a third-party music service should not be assumed to grant them. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and the current monetization policies before broadcasting.

Build a practical revenue plan
- Choose a format you can sustain with original value. Plan what viewers will receive across the full schedule, not just how to keep a signal online. Use programming blocks, context, or hosting where appropriate, and confirm the rights for all included material.
- Check YPP status and your target feature. In YouTube Studio’s Earn area, verify country availability, current progress, and which features you can apply for. Treat the expanded-YPP path and ad-revenue threshold as distinct stages.
- Preserve public replays if watch hours matter. Keep qualifying streams public and converted to VOD; unlisted, deleted, or non-VOD livestreams do not count toward the relevant qualified watch hours.
- Turn on only the revenue features you qualify for. Accept the relevant modules, configure live ads, and check feature-specific rules for fan funding or Shopping.
- Balance ad delivery against the viewing experience. Automatic, scheduled, and manual mid-rolls involve different levels of control and effort. Review the stream as a viewer would, and do not plan finances on the assumption that each slot will serve an ad.
- Add audience-fit income where appropriate. Membership perks, live chat funding, relevant products, or a brand partnership can complement ads. Keep promised perks deliverable and agree sponsorship terms directly.
- Review performance and policy standing. Use YouTube Studio’s available analytics and policy notices to identify eligible revenue, viewer response, and problems. There is no universal RPM or guaranteed earnings figure for a 24/7 stream.

Troubleshooting monetization problems
- You meet the numbers but cannot join YPP: Check the other entry conditions, country availability, active strikes, verification and advanced-features status, linked AdSense for YouTube account, and the channel review status in Studio.
- Live watch hours are not appearing as expected: Check that the stream was public, not deleted, and converted to VOD; then compare the figures with YouTube’s qualified-watch-hours rules and the Earn page.
- The stream is live but ads are not appearing: Confirm channel monetization and stream monetization are enabled, the relevant module is accepted, and the content is eligible. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve.
- Mid-rolls disrupt an important moment: Reconsider the selected automatic, scheduled, or manual approach and design suitable pauses into the program. Scheduled intervals are configurable, but do not guarantee a filled ad slot.
- A monetization review raises originality concerns: Examine the whole channel, especially its most-viewed and newest uploads and the material generating the most watch time. Make the original contribution clear; cosmetic changes alone do not resolve reused or mass-produced content concerns.
- Music or other material triggers a rights issue: Stop using material unless you can establish the required worldwide rights for live use. A consumer subscription is not proof of rebroadcast permission.
