None guarantees earnings: you need YouTube Partner Program (YPP) eligibility, the right monetization modules, advertiser-suitable content, and rights to everything you stream. You also need an archive plan—YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Choose revenue routes that fit the channel
For many channels, ads are the simplest starting point. Fan funding and commerce can diversify revenue, but they depend on audience participation, feature eligibility, and the work required to deliver what you promise.

YouTube’s current partner earnings documentation describes a 70% share of net revenue for creators who accept the Commerce Product Module (memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks), and a 55% share of net Watch Page ad revenue under the Watch Page Monetization Module. These are contractual shares, not an RPM, an earnings forecast, or a promise that ads or purchases will occur. Your current agreement controls. See YouTube Partner earnings overview.
YouTube reports an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled live automatic mid-roll ads compared with those that did not, across 207 countries in January 2024. That is YouTube’s comparison of those channel groups, not a prediction for a particular channel. Live ad settings and guidance describes the options.

Qualify for YPP and enable the relevant features
YPP is the gateway to YouTube monetization features, not an automatic payment guarantee. YouTube’s current help page describes the ad-revenue route as 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Eligibility and feature availability can vary by location and feature, and rules can change. Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for your channel’s current status and available application path.
- Check the channel’s Earn tab. In YouTube Studio, open Earn and review eligibility, available features, and any outstanding requirements.
- Apply to YPP when eligible. Meet the current program requirements and comply with YouTube channel monetization policies; acceptance is not automatic.
- Accept the modules for the revenue you plan to use. Watch Page ads and fan-funding features have relevant module terms. Memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers require the Commerce Product Module or a prior Commerce Product Addendum, plus feature-specific eligibility.
- Turn monetization on for the live stream. Use the monetization controls for the stream in YouTube Studio. Configure mid-rolls as automatic, scheduled, or manual according to the format and audience experience you want.
- Check the stream as a viewer. Confirm that the player works, chat and paid features are available where expected, and any planned ad breaks do not undermine the stream’s purpose.

Design the format to be monetizable, not merely continuous
Being live around the clock is not itself original viewer value. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced content remains ineligible for monetization. The clarification describes existing policy, not a new ban. Reused-content rules are separate: republishing material without significant original commentary, modification, or educational or entertainment value can also create a problem.
- Build a recognizable purpose for the stream: for example, original instruction, commentary, curation, or entertainment that viewers can understand even when they join midway.
- If using loops or repeated scenes, make the creative contribution and viewer value evident rather than relying on the fact that the channel runs continuously.
- Do not assume that owning a copy of a song or video gives you monetization rights, or that crediting the creator replaces permission.
- Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies before settling on a repeatable format.
For live content, YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions place the responsibility for necessary rights on the provider, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, public-performance licenses, and other royalty participants. Use footage and audio you have permission to exploit in the live stream and any archive, and retain the permissions.

Protect the archive and keep the stream operational
YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not treat the platform archive as your only copy of a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube recommends making a local recording backup; plan storage, recording checks, and segments or restarts that let you verify that each archive exists and is usable. - Record locally: Set up a local recording workflow and confirm that files are being written and can be played back.
- Plan storage: Estimate how much space your chosen recording settings use, and monitor available capacity and sustained write performance. A storage device is a setup choice, not a YouTube requirement.
- Use repeatable stream settings: YouTube Studio supports reusable stream settings and documents encoder stream keys, scheduling, DVR, latency, and auto-start/stop. Review the settings for your particular workflow in YouTube’s live streaming settings.
- Verify after a segment or restart: Check the live status and confirm that the recording or archive was created before relying on it.
Continuous availability and monetization are related operational concerns, but YouTube’s settings do not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. Keep an eye on the encoder or streaming service, stream status, local recording, and chat moderation. If connecting third-party tools or automation, review their security, uptime, and terms. YouTube lists third-party live tools but says listed products are not made or endorsed by Google. IFTTT’s instructions for connecting YouTube Super Chat or memberships to applets require YPP and access to the relevant feature: IFTTT’s YouTube service page.
