It reports impressions for AI Overviews and AI Mode, with breakdowns by page, country, date, and device. It is not a dedicated AI Overviews clicks-only report: external-page clicks count as clicks under Google’s standard methodology, while impressions are the report’s primary metric.
Where is the AI Overviews report in Search Console?
Open the relevant Search Console property and go to the Generative AI performance report (Search). Google says worldwide rollout to websites was completed on August 31, 2026. The report may still be absent for a particular property if it has not received enough impressions in generative AI features or if the property does not yet have access.
How to measure AI Overviews visibility
- Open the report. Select your property in Search Console, then open Generative AI performance report (Search).
- Start with impressions. Google defines these as the number of times links to your site were shown to a user in a generative AI feature on Google Search. The report covers AI Overviews and AI Mode and uses data from the Web search type in the Search results Performance report.
- Choose a dimension. Use pages, countries, dates, or devices to investigate where visibility appears. Page data uses the final URL after redirects, and most performance data is assigned to Google’s canonical URL. Dates can be grouped by day, week, or month and use Pacific Time.
- Filter search type if useful. Web: text-based covers text queries entered in Google’s standard search bar. Web: multimodal covers image-based searches, including Google Lens, Circle to Search on Android, uploaded images, and Chrome image search.
- Export the data if needed. Use the report’s export control to download chart and table data. Values shown as “~” or “-” are exported as zero.
Can I see clicks from AI Overviews in Search Console?
Google’s Search Console methodology says, “Clicking a link to an external page in the AI Overview counts as a click.” That means clicks are counted, but the generative AI report should not be treated as a separate, comprehensive AI Overviews click-attribution system; its documented focus is impressions for AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Position also needs careful interpretation. Google says, “An AI Overview occupies a single position in search results, and all links in the AI Overview are assigned that same position.” A link’s reported position therefore does not distinguish its rank from other links inside the same overview. Search Console excludes data from Search Labs experiments while they remain in active development. See Google’s explanation of impressions, position, and clicks.

Why chart and table totals can differ
Check the aggregation level before treating different totals as an error. The generative AI report’s chart is aggregated by property unless a URL filter is applied. If two results from the same site appear in a generative AI feature, the chart counts one impression. In the table, page data is aggregated by page, while country, device, and date data are aggregated by property.
The broader Search performance report also distinguishes property and page aggregation: property aggregation counts results for the same property once per query, while page aggregation counts each distinct URL. Google’s example describes one property impression versus one impression for each of three distinct URLs. How to compare periods and investigate data changes
- Keep the comparison consistent: use the same filters and aggregation level when comparing pages, countries, devices, or date ranges.
- Separate what the report can show: AI Overviews and AI Mode are both included. The report supports text-based and multimodal Web search filters, but Google’s documentation does not establish a separate Search type that isolates AI Overview contributions alone.
- Account for incomplete recent data: the newest Search performance data can be preliminary and may change over the next few hours. A dotted line indicates preliminary data. The default display uses complete days; select preliminary dates explicitly to include them.
- Check known anomalies: Google recorded a logging error that reduced Generative AI performance report impressions from August 13 through August 17, 2026. Its August 21 update said the missing data had been restored and the Performance report showed complete metrics. See the Search Console data anomaly log.
