You can review, delete, pause, or automatically delete YouTube watch history in YouTube History. To change a particular suggestion without clearing your activity, use recommendation feedback such as “Not interested” or “Don’t recommend channel.” Watch history affects recommendations—especially Home—but it is only one of several signals.
Choose the control that matches what you want to change

Review, find, or delete watched videos
In the YouTube app on Android
- Sign in to the YouTube app, tap your profile photo, then open Settings > Manage all history.
- Use Search or Calendar to find the video or date range you want.
- To remove one video, tap the close control beside it. To remove multiple items or a selected period, use DELETE and choose the available option.
Deleting a selected period also deletes YouTube search history from that same period. Watch and search history have separate controls, but this bulk-delete action affects both.
On desktop
Open Google My Activity’s YouTube History and select Manage history to review or delete activity. The available controls and labels may differ by platform or app version.
Pause or resume watch history
Android
- Tap your profile photo and open Settings > Manage all history > Controls.
- Unselect Include the YouTube videos you watch to pause saving watches.
- Return to the same control and select it again when you want future watches saved.
Desktop
In Google My Activity, open YouTube History controls and turn off the watch-history setting. YouTube Help provides the corresponding setting for TV and gaming consoles under the left menu’s Settings > Pause watch history. Menu names can vary across versions.

While watch history is off, videos you watch are not added to that history. If you pause it temporarily, remember to turn it back on when you want subsequent viewing saved.
Set watch history to delete automatically
- Open YouTube History and select Manage history.
- Choose Auto-delete, select the time range offered for your account, then proceed and confirm.
Check the options shown in your account: YouTube’s help information confirms auto-delete is available but does not establish one universal default interval.

Change recommendations without clearing all history
For a video
On Home or Watch Next, open the video’s More menu and choose Not interested. If Tell us why appears, choose a reason that fits, such as “I’ve already watched the video” or “I don’t like the video.”
For a channel or Shorts
- For a channel you do not want suggested, open the More menu and choose Don’t recommend channel.
- In the YouTube app, a Shorts shelf’s More menu may offer Show fewer Shorts.
These choices provide targeted feedback instead of removing your entire viewing record. Some feedback options require sign-in, and availability varies by surface and device. YouTube also provides a way to delete saved “Not interested” feedback through Google Activity; see its recommendation controls.

What changes when you delete or pause history?
Watch history can help you find recently watched videos and, when enabled, supports relevant recommendations. YouTube says recommendation signals differ by feature: Home primarily relies on watch history, while the video currently being watched is the main signal for Up Next. Other surfaces include the Shorts feed, destination pages, and some channel shelves. Other signals include search history, subscriptions, likes and dislikes, recommendation feedback, and satisfaction surveys. As YouTube puts it, “Different YouTube features rely on certain recommendation signals more than others.” See How YouTube recommendations work.
Deleting watch history can change recommendations, but it is not a universal reset of every signal or every surface. Deleting a search entry also removes that entry’s influence on recommendations; pausing search history prevents new searches from being saved. Google Account activity can affect recommendations, search results, in-app notifications, and suggested videos in other places, so a YouTube watch-history change does not control every use of account activity.

If watch history is off and there is no significant prior watch history, YouTube says Home may stop showing personalized video recommendations. The page can still show the search bar and left-side menu, including access to subscriptions and Explore. Turning history off can therefore mean fewer personalized suggestions on Home.
