In Riverside Studio, participant settings depend on your role: hosts have broad control, producers can change most settings subject to their permissions, and guests manage their own audio and video setup. To remove someone, a host or producer opens People and confirms the removal; the steps differ on computer and mobile.
Who can change participant settings?
Riverside’s current help documentation calls the workspace a Studio. The controls described here are Riverside Studio controls; “Talk Studio” is not the product term used in those help pages.
| Role | What the role can do |
|---|---|
| Host | Manages the session and can change all studio settings. Host actions include muting or unmuting a participant’s microphone and turning off a participant’s camera on computer. |
| Producer | Supports the host and can change most studio settings. Available permissions vary by producer type and feature. |
| Guest | Is recorded and can manage their own participation setup, including their display name and camera, microphone, and speaker selection. |
| Audience member | Watches a live session, can participate in chat, and may request to join the live recording. |
See Riverside’s participant roles overview for role distinctions and its host role details for host actions.
Remove a participant from the Studio
Only a host or producer should use the documented removal workflow for a live-call participant. Before confirming, note that removal stops that person’s recording, while their high-quality recording track finishes uploading.

On a computer
- Join the Studio as a host or producer.
- Open People in the sidebar.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the participant’s name.
- Choose Remove participant, then confirm.
In the mobile app
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Tap People panel.
- Tap the remove icon next to the participant’s name, then confirm.
If someone was removed by mistake or too early, they can rejoin using Rejoin Studio. Removing a live-call participant returns them to the audience, where they can continue watching; the documented removal action is for participants in the live call, not ordinary audience members. See Riverside’s removal instructions.
Mute a participant or turn off their camera
The host-permissions documentation lists muting or unmuting a participant’s microphone and turning off a participant’s camera as computer controls. It does not list these two actions as mobile controls, so do not assume the same options are available in the mobile app. Producers’ permissions depend on producer type and feature; the cited host page describes host actions.

Adjust listening volume and check track uploads
Riverside documents tools in the studio sidebar for adjusting another participant’s output volume and checking whether participant tracks are uploading. Output volume changes what you hear live; it is not documented as changing the participant’s recorded track. The sidebar overview is older than the current role and removal pages, so the exact interface labels may have changed. Consult the Studio sidebar overview if you need those tools.
What guests can change for themselves
Guests can change their display name and select their own camera, microphone, and speaker. Riverside’s guest-role documentation also lists live captions and video mirroring as guest controls. These are guest self-service settings rather than controls a host changes on the guest’s behalf. See Riverside’s guest role details.

Where other Studio settings live
Riverside groups Studio settings into General, Recording, Live Stream, Brand, and Advanced categories. The overview mentions general tasks such as renaming a Studio, enabling a lobby or waiting room, scheduling a recording, and inviting participants. It does not give one universal click path for every participant-related setting, so use the specific instructions for the action you need rather than expecting every control in one screen.
