Create a consistent image card for each podcast appearance, then check how it crops on your actual page at desktop and mobile sizes. There is no universal image size for a guest link page: use the dimensions your site builder or card component requires, and keep important content away from the edges so responsive cropping does not cut it off.
Plan the card: link or player?
First decide what happens when someone opens an appearance card. A static card can link directly to the episode page. If you want visitors to listen without leaving your page, an embedded player may fit better. Spotify embeds provide an interactive listening surface, and Spotify says their width and height can be adjusted. Spotify explains how to embed its content.
For a Spotify embed, the oEmbed response can include a title, embed HTML, and—when available—a preview image URL and its dimensions. The documented response does not guarantee an image will be available. Check Spotify’s oEmbed reference.
Choose an image and a consistent design
Use an approved, recognizable image
Choose a clear guest portrait, approved show or episode artwork, or a branded design that identifies the appearance. Get permission from the image owner or guest where appropriate; platform artwork guidance is not a substitute for permission to use someone’s photo.
#1 Best Overall
Make the series recognizable without crowding the card
Use a repeatable layout for the guest name, show identity, and episode context. Keep the face and any essential text near the center, where they are less likely to be lost when a card is cropped for different screen sizes. Prefer a clear image and restrained text over small decorative details.
Spotify’s creator guidance recommends that a thumbnail clearly communicate the episode topic or feature a recognizable guest, and advises simplicity, image quality, and a consistent series style. These are design recommendations, not a quantified promise of more clicks or listens. Read Spotify’s artwork guidance.

Size the web thumbnail for your site
Use the dimensions required by your site builder or the component displaying the card. Because the title does not specify a builder and the reviewed guidance does not establish a universal guest-page card size, do not assume one pixel dimension will work everywhere. Keep a larger master image so you can crop or resize it later, and export a web-ready version for the actual component.
Platform artwork rules are separate from website card dimensions:

Rank #3
| Use | Guidance | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Spotify video episode thumbnail | Horizontal 16:9; suggested 1920 × 1080 pixels | Spotify video thumbnails, not a general-purpose website card. Spotify says audio episodes use show or episode artwork instead. Spotify’s episode-thumbnail instructions |
| YouTube podcast artwork | Square; recommended 1280 × 1280 pixels | YouTube podcast artwork. YouTube represents a podcast as a playlist and episodes as videos; this is not a universal web-card size. YouTube’s podcast setup guidance |
Do not resize a website card to one of these platform specifications unless you also need artwork for that platform.
Build and publish the appearance card
- Gather the destination and artwork. Decide whether the card should open the episode page or show an embedded player. Select an image you have permission to use.
- Prepare the crop. Match the site component’s image dimensions or aspect ratio. Keep the face, guest name, and episode context within a central safe area. Save the original master separately.
- Apply the series design. Use a consistent treatment for show branding and labels. Check that text remains readable when the thumbnail is displayed small.
- Add the destination. For a static card, make the image and an accessible text link lead to the same episode destination. For a Spotify player, use Spotify’s embed workflow and test the result on your page.
- Preview the real card. Check the published component at desktop and phone sizes. Confirm that the face and important text survive cropping, and that the link or player works.
Check the result at phone size
- Can a visitor recognize the guest or show without opening the card?
- Is the guest name or episode context still legible at the card’s smallest display size?
- Does a responsive crop remove the face, logo, or essential text?
- Does the image and its text link open the intended episode, or does the embedded player load as expected?
- Do the cards look like part of one series while still distinguishing each appearance?
If Spotify artwork is being used as a preview, remember that Spotify’s oEmbed documentation only says a thumbnail URL and dimensions may be present when available; design a fallback for cases where they are absent.

To capture a preview of your published guest page, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request and returns a screenshot. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See ScreenshotNeo’s API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com/guest -o shot.webp
Replace the URL with your published guest link page. The request saves the returned image as shot.webp. Visit ScreenshotNeo or sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.
