To make a thumbnail that visitors can tap in a link-in-bio page, add an image to a card or page section, attach the destination URL to the image or its surrounding card, and test the published link on a phone. This is different from the preview image that a social platform displays when someone shares your link-in-bio page; that preview comes from page metadata and is controlled separately.

Make a clickable thumbnail inside your link-in-bio page

  1. Choose the destination. Decide which website, article, shop, portfolio, or other page the card should open. Give it a short, recognizable label so visitors know where the link leads.
  2. Choose an image. Use a relevant photo, logo, or graphic that you have permission to use. Keep the subject easy to recognize at the small size in which the card will appear.
  3. Add the image to your page. Select a template or layout that gives the image and its label enough room to be seen clearly.
  4. Attach the destination URL. Use the page builder’s image-link or card-link control if it has one. If it only supports hyperlinks on text, make the label clickable and do not assume that inserting an image automatically links it.
  5. Preview the page at different sizes. Check the mobile view first, then tablet and desktop. Make sure the image remains legible, the label is clear, and the card is easy to tap.
  6. Publish and test. Open the live page and tap each card. Confirm that every one opens the intended destination, rather than relying only on the editor preview.

Build the page with Canva

Canva’s link-in-bio tool documents a workflow for choosing a template, customizing it with text and images, adding hyperlinks, previewing the page on desktop, mobile, and tablet, then publishing. In Canva, search for “Link in bio” or “Bio link,” choose a template, and customize its content. Its published workflow describes highlighting text and using the hyperlink control to enter a destination URL. If you want the whole image to be clickable, use a separate image-link control if the editor offers one; otherwise, link the label.

Canva describes publishing on a free Canva domain and says custom domains or linking an existing domain are Pro features. Plan eligibility and product details can change, so confirm current availability in Canva before publishing.

In-page thumbnails and social share previews are separate

The image card visitors see inside your link-in-bio page is part of that page’s design. When someone shares the page URL on a social network, the platform may create a separate preview using metadata from the page. LinkedIn recommends Open Graph metadata and lists og:title, og:image, og:description, and og:url as relevant tags. Adding an image card to the page does not by itself establish that image as the share preview.

LinkedIn image specifications

LinkedIn Help lists a minimum image size of 1200 × 627 pixels and JPG, PNG, or GIF file types for a website share image. It also says images less than 401 pixels wide display as a thumbnail. These specifications are LinkedIn-specific, not universal rules for every social network or link-in-bio builder. The help article was marked as last updated two years before its retrieval on October 3, 2026; check LinkedIn’s current guidance before relying on the figures.

If you need a screenshot of the destination website to use as a thumbnail, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot through one GET request. Its API can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; the example below saves a WebP response. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; yearly billing gives two months free. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo free.

Check these details before publishing

  • Use imagery you have rights to use and that clearly relates to the destination.
  • Keep a text label alongside the thumbnail so the link’s purpose is understandable.
  • Verify whether the builder links the image, the label, or the whole card; do not infer click behavior from appearance.
  • Test every published destination on a phone, where the page must remain easy to scan and tap.
  • Set and check page metadata separately if you want control over the image shown when the page URL is shared.
