Then deliver it naturally, in a setting and format that suit the message, and measure it against the job it was meant to do—not views alone.
Start with the audience and the job of the video
Before writing a script or setting up a camera, choose one audience and one purpose. A video aimed at employees may need to explain a decision or set direction; one for customers may answer a concern; one for investors may clarify priorities; a professional-community video may share a lesson or point of view. Trying to address every stakeholder at once usually makes the message less specific.
Write the purpose in one sentence, such as: “Explain why we made this change and what customers should expect next.” That sentence is a filter for what belongs in the finished video. If a detail does not help the audience understand the point or know what to do next, leave it out or put it in supporting material.
Give the CEO a reason to be on camera
The CEO’s presence is most useful when the subject calls for their perspective: company direction, values, culture, a consequential decision, or something they personally know, decided, learned, or are accountable for. A generic announcement can sound interchangeable; a concrete point of view or example makes the speaker relevant to the subject.

LinkedIn’s 2025 report, The Art & Science of Video Storytelling, found higher engagement in its analysis when experts appeared in videos, including a reported 53% lift for executive experts. Those figures describe LinkedIn’s analysis, not a guaranteed result for every CEO video or organic post. The practical takeaway is to make the CEO’s expertise visible in the substance of the message rather than relying on their title alone.
Build a spoken message, not a corporate statement
A useful structure is simple enough to say conversationally:

- Open with the audience’s question or the main point. Do not make viewers wait through a long introduction to learn why the video matters.
- Give only the context they need. Explain what changed, what is at stake, or what prompted the message.
- Explain the CEO’s perspective. Use a specific example, decision, or lesson instead of abstract claims.
- Close with the takeaway or next step. State what the audience should understand, expect, or do.
Draft for speech. Read the script aloud and replace phrases that feel stiff, overly formal, or difficult to say in one breath. Rehearse for clarity and comfort, not word-perfect recitation. Vimeo’s CEO video guidance recommends rehearsal that brings out an authentic voice and editing as needed so the script sounds natural.
Choose a credible setting and prioritize clear sound
Use a real environment that fits the topic when it is practical: an office or workplace can support an update about company operations, while a quiet, uncluttered location may suit a sensitive explanation. The setting should reinforce the message without pulling attention away from it.

Make spoken audio clear and keep the image free of distractions. A microphone can help if the room or recording conditions make clean speech difficult, but a particular camera or microphone package is not a requirement established by the available guidance. Check a short test recording before filming the full message: listen for room noise and speech clarity, and look for distracting background movement or lighting.
Choose the runtime for the message
There is no universal runtime that guarantees audience connection. A brief update may need little time; a consequential or complex explanation may need more. Put the essential point early, then use enough time to explain it properly rather than cutting context just to meet an arbitrary seconds limit.

Wistia’s 2026 State of Video Report emphasizes that engagement depends on video length and type, and that percentage watched and total watch time are different measures. A longer video can produce more total watch time even if viewers watch a smaller share of it. The report also identifies educational videos as a format that tends to perform well for engagement. Treat those findings as guidance from Wistia’s survey and hosted-video data, not a promise about a particular CEO’s audience.
Match the format and distribution to the audience
Decide where the intended audience is likely to see the video and how much context that format can carry. For a professional B2B audience, LinkedIn is a reasonable channel to test; it is not automatically the best destination for every CEO or stakeholder group. Wistia’s 2026 report says 8 in 10 teams it surveyed name LinkedIn as their primary place to share video, and identifies LinkedIn and YouTube as leading company video-sharing platforms in its respondent sample. That describes company behavior, not the likely response of your specific audience.

Choose a format based on the communication job:
- Update or announcement: a direct address that states what changed and what happens next.
- Explanation or response: enough uninterrupted context to answer the audience’s concern clearly.
- Thought leadership: a specific lesson, argument, or point of view grounded in the CEO’s experience.
- Long explanation with short excerpts: keep the complete version available wherever viewers can get the context, and use shorter clips to introduce its key points.
LinkedIn’s 2026 article on marketing leaders presents platform figures including 158 billion LinkedIn video views, CEO video sharing up 57% over two years, and C-suite posts generating four times more engagement than other posts. These are LinkedIn’s platform claims in that article; they do not establish that publishing a CEO video on LinkedIn will produce those results for an individual organization.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Measure whether the video did its intended job
Choose the success measure before publishing. Views alone show reach imperfectly and do not reveal whether the right people understood or acted on the message.
- For awareness or attention: review starts and viewing behavior, including where viewers stop watching.
- For conversation: examine comments, shares, and substantive responses from the audience you intended to reach.
- For action: connect the video to a relevant follow-up measure, such as the next step the audience was asked to take.
LinkedIn’s executive-video article highlights saves, shares, and engagement by key audiences; Wistia includes view counts, conversion assists, and social engagement among commonly used measures. Select metrics that match the purpose rather than treating any one platform’s preferred measure as a universal standard.
Common mistakes that weaken CEO videos
- Making the message about the company instead of the audience: lead with the question, change, or concern that matters to viewers.
- Using the CEO’s title as the whole rationale: include the perspective, experience, or accountability that makes this speaker useful.
- Reading formal copy verbatim: rehearse aloud and edit for natural phrasing while keeping the message accurate.
- Hiding the main point behind a long preamble: state the useful point early, then provide context.
- Applying a fixed duration rule: let the complexity and purpose determine how much explanation is needed.
- Judging performance only by views or completion rate: consider audience quality, meaningful responses, and relevant downstream actions.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you also want to keep a pre-recorded YouTube video live continuously, StreamNeo is a separate option for that specific job; it is not a way to record a CEO speaking live to camera. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
