You can’t turn a YouTube playlist directly into a YouTube Live broadcast using a native playlist control. Instead, play the uploaded videos in sequence through an encoder or cloud streaming service, which sends their continuous feed to YouTube Live. Your playlist organizes the videos; the encoder or service creates the live feed.
Before you start: check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube Help summarizes the requirements: “To live stream, you need to have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and you need to verify your channel.” If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours, so check eligibility well before you plan to broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
Choose how to play the videos continuously
You need a source that can play the prerecorded videos in the sequence you want and keep sending the output to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as converting video into a digital format for streaming. That encoder could be software or hardware you operate, or a cloud service. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. Check the current controls of whichever tool you choose: the official guidance does not establish that every encoder or service can import a YouTube playlist or repeat it directly. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
If you use an encoder on your own computer, confirm that it can play the video files and repeat the intended sequence unattended. That computer and its internet connection must remain available for the duration of the broadcast. With a cloud service, confirm how it accepts videos and manages playlists before setting up the live stream.

Create the YouTube Live stream and connect your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go live to enter Live Control Room.
- Create or select a stream. Use the Stream tab in Live Control Room.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the corresponding fields in your encoder or streaming service. Treat the key like a password; anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Set up the video sequence. In the encoder or service, choose the uploaded-video files or playlist supported by that tool, set the desired order and repeat behavior, and start the feed. A YouTube playlist URL is not a substitute for the encoder’s video source unless the tool explicitly supports it.
Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Choose resolution and bitrate using YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance and your upload connection’s capacity. YouTube Help: Recommended encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
Preview, start, and monitor the loop
- Test the feed before going live. Include representative motion and audio, then check that video plays, sound is present, and the sequence advances or repeats as intended.
- For a scheduled stream, wait for preview. Start the encoder and confirm that the picture appears in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
- Allow setup time. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before a scheduled stream and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Watch stream health and playback. Monitor the video and audio while the broadcast is running; do not assume that a successful encoder connection means the audience is receiving a healthy stream.
- End the broadcast deliberately. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on the same automatic archiving for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Only stream videos and audio you have the rights to use for a live broadcast. Having uploaded a video to YouTube or placed it in a playlist does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast its content. Review rights for music, footage, and other included material before starting, and check YouTube’s current policies and any notices shown in Live Control Room.

Troubleshoot common loop problems
- You can’t start a live stream: confirm channel verification and check for live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- No preview appears in Live Control Room: check that the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key match the selected YouTube stream. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
- The video stops instead of looping: check the selected tool’s repeat or playlist controls and verify that the files are available to it. YouTube’s playlist itself is not a documented direct Live input.
- Playback stutters or stream health is poor: check the encoder’s output settings and the upload connection, then use YouTube’s current bitrate and resolution recommendations for the chosen format. Test again with representative motion and audio.
- Viewers hear no audio: confirm that the source has an audio track and that the encoder is sending AAC or MP3 audio; inspect the preview before going live.
- The stream ends unexpectedly: check whether the encoder, computer, connection, or cloud service stopped sending. For a long broadcast, monitor the stream rather than assuming it will keep running or archive automatically.
