To repeat prerecorded videos in a fixed order on a YouTube 24/7 live stream, set the sequence and repeat behavior in the system that plays out the videos, then send its continuous feed to YouTube Live. YouTube’s playlist Loop button repeats playback for a viewer; it does not turn a playlist into a live broadcast. YouTube’s playlist instructions describe the viewer control, while its encoder workflow explains how a live feed reaches the channel.

What “loop a playlist” means for a live stream

There are two separate jobs: arranging and repeating the videos, and delivering the resulting feed to YouTube Live. The viewer-side Loop control handles only the first job for someone watching a YouTube playlist. For a live channel, a playout system or suitable hosted service must play the files in order, repeat them, and provide the outgoing feed to an encoder or YouTube ingest.

YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Its documentation does not describe a native Live Control Room setting that takes an ordinary YouTube playlist and broadcasts it repeatedly in a chosen order. Do not rely on the viewer’s Loop button for channel automation.

Choose where the playlist will run

Approach Where the sequence runs What to verify
Local encoder and playout setup On a computer or other local system running the video playout and encoder. Confirm that the software can set item order, repeat the sequence, and keep sending a feed when a file ends. YouTube’s encoder documentation does not specify these controls for generic software.
Hosted prerecorded-video service In the provider’s cloud, which sends the live feed without requiring your computer to play it continuously. Confirm fixed ordering, repeat behavior, file limits, recovery behavior, pricing, and terms in the provider’s current documentation. YouTube names Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming, but its listing does not establish those specific capabilities or current terms.

StreamNeo is a hosted option for YouTube: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed. Its cloud playout is designed to loop videos and playlists; details are at StreamNeo.

Set up the YouTube live stream

  1. Check eligibility early. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation of live streaming may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the planned start.
  2. Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. In the stream settings, obtain the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: enter it only in the playout or encoder system you intend to use.
  3. Configure the playout sequence. In your chosen system, add the videos in the exact order you want, enable sequence repeat or looping, and configure its output to send a continuous live feed. The labels and controls depend on the product; the YouTube setup pages do not provide product-specific playlist instructions.
  4. Connect the feed to YouTube. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings, or follow the hosted service’s documented YouTube connection workflow. YouTube creates a watch page once the encoder starts sending content.
  5. Preview before making it public. Wait for video and audio to appear in Live Control Room. Check that the first video is the intended one, the order is correct, audio is audible, and the feed continues when a file ends. Start the broadcast in YouTube only after the preview looks right.
  6. Monitor the live output. YouTube recommends checking audio and video quality during the stream. Also watch for a sequence that stops, skips, or fails to return to the first item; those behaviors are controlled by the playout system.

Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings

These settings govern delivery into YouTube, not playlist order. YouTube’s current live encoder settings list H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS video ingestion; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant bitrate encoding. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Follow the live settings page for the bitrate appropriate to your codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than copying an old bitrate table.

  • Keyframes: YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  • Resolution and frame rate: Choose values supported by your source and encoder, then consult YouTube’s current settings page for the corresponding bitrate recommendation.
  • Audio: Use a supported AAC or MP3 audio configuration and verify the preview for level, clarity, and continuity.
  • Transport: Prefer RTMPS where your encoder or service offers it.

Check copyright, reused content, and archives

Use video and audio you have the right to stream

Having a file does not establish permission to broadcast its visuals, music, or other included material. Before starting, check that your rights cover the intended YouTube live use, including any music, performances, clips, and artwork. YouTube’s copyright guidance explains copyright basics. Repeatedly broadcasting content does not remove copyright obligations.

Do not assume repetition guarantees monetization

Copyright permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are separate questions. A channel’s repetitive or reused presentation may be assessed under YouTube’s monetization policies. Check the current policy and make sure the channel’s overall content meets its requirements; permission to use a video alone does not guarantee monetization.

Plan for archive limits

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as one guaranteed, uninterrupted archive. If you need a replay, plan for the documented duration limit and consult YouTube’s current archive guidance for the specific stream.

When the live stream does not repeat correctly

  • The playlist plays only for viewers, not as a live broadcast: The YouTube Loop control affects playlist playback. Create a live broadcast and send it a feed from an encoder or hosted playout service.
  • The stream starts but does not advance to the next video: Check the playout system’s ordered queue and end-of-file behavior. YouTube’s ingest settings do not control file transitions.
  • The final video ends and the sequence stops: Verify that repeat or loop is enabled in the playout system and that the sequence is configured to return to its first item.
  • Live Control Room shows no preview: Confirm the stream URL and key, that the encoder or service is sending, and that the selected codec and transport are supported by YouTube.
  • Video appears but audio is missing or incorrect: Check the source file’s audio track, encoder audio configuration, and the preview before starting publicly.
  • The stream disconnects or YouTube drops it: Check the encoder or service’s connection and recovery settings. Automatic reconnection behavior depends on the system sending the feed; do not assume YouTube will preserve an uninterrupted broadcast or archive.
  • The key may have been exposed: Replace or reset the stream key in YouTube Studio and update it in the authorized encoder or service.
