To make a PNGTuber avatar with PngTuber Maker, prepare at least two PNG images showing different expressions, import them into the app, select a microphone, and adjust its sound threshold until speaking switches the avatar’s image. Then use the desktop export or the app’s virtual-camera output. YiMeta’s Steam listing describes this workflow; it does not specify required image dimensions or provide an OBS setup guide.
What you need before you start
- At least two PNG expression images. The minimum stated by the PngTuber Maker Steam listing is two PNGs with different avatar expressions. It does not publish required dimensions, resolution, file size, or transparency settings.
- A microphone. The listing describes selecting a microphone, adjusting a sound threshold, and testing the speaking effect.
- A compatible Windows computer and Steam. The listing gives minimum specs of 64-bit Windows 7 or later, an Intel Core i5-4570 at 3.20 GHz or equivalent, a GeForce GTX 560 or equivalent, and broadband internet. However, Steam has required its client to run on Windows 10 or later since January 1, 2024, so use Windows 10 or later for current Steam access.
PngTuber Maker is listed by YiMeta, which is both the developer and publisher. Its Steam listing describes it as free “for the time being” and says the price may rise as content and features are added. Price and Early Access status can change, so check the current Steam listing before installing. The listing does not establish a permanent free price.
How to make the avatar in PngTuber Maker
1. Prepare two expression images
Create or obtain two PNG images of the same avatar with different expressions—for example, a neutral or closed-mouth image and a speaking or open-mouth image. Keep the character’s position and scale consistent across both pictures so switching between them looks like one avatar changing expression rather than jumping around. That alignment is a practical preparation tip, not a published PngTuber Maker requirement.
The listing does not state exact image dimensions, canvas alignment rules, or whether transparent backgrounds are required. Avoid relying on a particular size or alpha-channel requirement unless the app itself displays one. If an image fails to import, try a standard PNG export and check that the file opens correctly in an image viewer.

2. Upload the PNGs
Open PngTuber Maker and upload the expression images. YiMeta’s listing says the app detects surrounding sound and switches among the uploaded expression pictures. The listing does not provide current interface labels or a detailed button-by-button import path, so the precise wording may vary by version.
3. Select a microphone and adjust the threshold
Choose the microphone you intend to use. Speak at a normal volume and adjust the sound threshold until the avatar changes expression when you talk. The listing calls for threshold adjustment and a test of the speaking effect, but it does not publish a numeric setting or a calibration procedure.

If the avatar reacts while you are silent, raise the threshold or reduce background noise. If it does not react when you speak, confirm the intended microphone is selected and lower the threshold gradually. Test again at the volume and distance you expect to use while streaming.
4. Add states if you want more expression variety
Two images are the stated minimum. YiMeta says additional state pictures can make the speaking effect more realistic. The listing also names emotion-switch animation, backgrounds, and avatar accessories. Add more expression images only if you have them prepared; the basic voice-reactive setup does not require a larger set.

5. Choose how to use the avatar
The listing describes two output paths: export the avatar to the desktop, or use PngTuber Maker’s virtual camera for a video stream. It does not provide an OBS-specific configuration sequence. If your streaming or recording software accepts a virtual-camera source, select PngTuber Maker’s virtual camera there; consult that software’s current instructions for the exact source setup.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
The PNG will not import
Check that the file is actually a PNG and opens in an image viewer. The Steam listing does not state image size, file-size, or transparency requirements, so it cannot confirm a specific format constraint beyond PNG images.

The avatar moves or changes size between expressions
Make the expression images use a consistent canvas and place the character at the same scale and position. This reduces visible jumps when the app switches pictures.
The avatar reacts to room noise
Raise the threshold and test again while silent. Reduce nearby noise where possible, then speak at your normal distance and volume to check that the avatar still responds.

The avatar does not react to speech
Check that PngTuber Maker is using the microphone you are speaking into, then lower the threshold a little at a time and repeat the test. Confirm that the microphone is connected and available to Windows.
Your streaming software cannot see the avatar
Confirm that PngTuber Maker is running and that you chose its virtual-camera output if you want to use it as a camera source. YiMeta’s listing confirms virtual-camera use in general but does not document OBS menus or troubleshoot individual streaming applications.
