YouTube does not loop a podcast on its own: the encoder must stay online or a cloud service must keep sending the feed. Make a local recording too, because YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours.
Before you start: check eligibility and clear the content
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube requires the channel to be verified, to have had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and for the streamer to be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements before building the program.
Clear every part of the program
Confirm you have the necessary rights for podcast episodes, music, ambient audio, artwork, and any visuals, including permission for both the live transmission and any replay or archive. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. Its Help documentation says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can trigger a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you have a license, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist; a license and an allowlist entry are separate things.
YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on the content provider to hold the rights needed for live and archived content, including music rights. A podcast being available on other platforms does not by itself establish permission to livestream it on YouTube.

Choose how to keep the feed running
Software encoder on a computer
A software encoder is a practical choice if you can keep the computer, audio source, encoder, and internet connection operating for the full broadcast. YouTube does not specify a universal computer configuration or stream settings for every sleep-podcast setup, so choose settings for your source and connection and check YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
Standalone hardware encoder
A dedicated hardware encoder is optional. It may suit a setup that needs external audio or video inputs or a device separate from a general-purpose computer. YouTube supports encoder workflows with external audio/video hardware, but does not require dedicated hardware.

Set up the YouTube broadcast with an encoder
- Prepare a continuous program. Arrange the sleep-podcast audio and the visual feed in your chosen encoder. A static or slowly changing visual is a creative choice, not a format requirement established by YouTube’s encoder instructions. Confirm the playlist can continue rather than ending after one episode if you intend an uninterrupted feed.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a live stream or schedule an event. Follow the current prompts in the Live Control Room; labels and available options can change.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. In the event’s stream settings, copy the connection details. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send content to your channel.
- Connect the encoder. Choose YouTube in the encoder if it offers that integration. Otherwise, enter the stream URL and key in its streaming settings. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the connection workflow.
- Start the encoder and check the incoming preview. Verify that YouTube receives the intended audio and visuals before taking the event live. Use the encoder and YouTube’s current stream-status indicators to catch a missing audio feed, wrong source, or connection problem.
- Take the event live and keep the feed transmitting. For a continuous broadcast, the encoder and program source need to keep sending content. Monitor YouTube Studio for stream interruptions and copyright notices.
Keep the stream continuous without confusing it with the archive
A nonstop live feed and a complete replay are different outcomes. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documentation includes a 24/7-feed example and describes how broadcasts relate to streams. That is an API capability example, not a promise that a particular encoder, computer, network, or channel will stay live without interruption. Most creators can use the Live Control Room and an encoder without building an API integration.

Plan separately for the recording. YouTube Help says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while one over 12 hours may not be captured at all: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Keep a local recording if a complete archive matters. Do not assume a single continuous broadcast will produce one complete YouTube replay.
Settings and operating details to verify
- Resolution, bitrate, and keyframes: the sources cited here do not establish one correct set of values for every sleep-podcast stream. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and match the output to the source, encoder, and available upload connection rather than relying on a fixed recipe.
- Audio and visuals: listen to the incoming audio and inspect the preview before going live. Confirm the intended program is playing and that the visual feed is present.
- Stream key: use the key for the correct event and keep it private. If the encoder is not connecting, recheck the URL and key in both YouTube Studio and the encoder.
- Local recording: enable recording in the encoder or use another suitable local recording workflow if preserving the full program is important. Check that the recording is actually being saved.
- Monitoring: plan who or what will detect a stopped source, encoder disconnect, or YouTube copyright warning during overnight hours.
Common problems and what to check
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
Check that the encoder is started, the event is the intended one, and the stream URL and key match the values in YouTube Studio. Confirm the encoder is sending the selected audio and video sources.

The stream stops when the computer sleeps or loses connectivity
A local encoder depends on the computer, source, and network continuing to operate. Check power and sleep settings, keep the source running, and monitor connectivity. If you cannot keep a local setup operating, use a cloud workflow instead.
YouTube interrupts the stream or shows a copyright notice
Review the notice and identify the matched material. Resolve the rights issue before resuming. If the content is licensed, contact the rights holder about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist; do not treat an allowlist as a substitute for having a license.

The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete
Check the stream duration and your local recording. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a local copy is the dependable backup when the full program must be retained.
