Choose how to play the rain video
You have two practical approaches: keep a local encoder running on your own computer, or use cloud playout. In either case, the encoder or service sends a video feed to YouTube; YouTube’s documentation describes this general encoder workflow and lists OBS as free, open-source streaming software, as well as Gyre and Upstream for 24/7 prerecorded streaming. Its listings do not establish those services’ current features, pricing, limits, or availability, so check their own current terms before choosing.

For a straightforward scene-changing program, one option is to render the rain footage and transitions into a single continuous video file. That avoids relying on a playlist or scene-switching control during the broadcast. If you want to assemble editable scenes in an encoder, confirm the current instructions in that encoder’s official documentation; YouTube’s documentation does not establish current OBS menu steps for looping or changing media sources.
Prepare a rain program with rights-cleared media
Plan what viewers will see and hear
Choose whether the background changes by cut, fade, or timed scene sequence, then make sure the change is visible in a representative test. Prepare the rain sound as part of the program or as a separate source in your encoder, and check that it continues cleanly across transitions. There is no rain-specific technical standard established here; choose a format and visual style that fit your own content and intended viewing experience.

Clear rights for every element
Make sure you have permission to transmit and archive every video, still image, animation, and sound recording. A rain recording or stock background is not automatically cleared for a live broadcast just because it is available online or described as royalty-free; read the actual license for the specific asset and intended use. YouTube’s stream settings guidance warns that trailer audio and video must not infringe another party’s content. Check YouTube’s current copyright guidance as well, particularly if the stream will remain available as a replay.
Confirm channel eligibility and enable Live
- The channel must be verified.
- The channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- The person going live must be at least 16 years old under YouTube’s stated eligibility requirements.
First-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch. YouTube’s current help pages for eligibility and encoder setup provide the applicable account requirements and activation flow: Get started with live streaming and Stream using an encoder.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a live stream or schedule one for later. Set the title, visibility, and other stream details. If you schedule it, YouTube can show an upcoming page; viewers may choose “Notify me” to receive a reminder.
- Choose encoder streaming. In the stream’s settings, obtain the YouTube server URL and stream key.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder. Paste the server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in the encoder or cloud service, then configure it to send the prepared rain program.
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not place the key in a public post, screenshot, or shared configuration. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement.
YouTube’s encoder instructions cover the Studio-to-encoder connection flow: Stream using an encoder. For advanced API-based systems that send one feed to more than one broadcast, YouTube’s Live API documentation describes a 24/7 feed example; that is not required for a single rain stream: YouTube Live Streaming API: Broadcasts.
Choose output settings your connection can sustain
YouTube advises choosing quality that your internet connection can reliably support. Run a speed test, account for other activity on the same connection, and test the actual program—especially moving scenery and audio—rather than assuming an idle connection will perform the same during a broadcast.

These are YouTube’s encoder-ingestion guidance values, not a guarantee that a particular home connection will sustain the stream. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Apply the settings available in your encoder and confirm that its selected codec and output match the stream you intend to send. - Start the encoder or cloud playout and confirm that YouTube receives a signal before publishing the stream.
- Preview at least one representative background transition. Listen for gaps, abrupt volume changes, or audio that does not match the scene.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and resolve any warnings before relying on a 24/7 run.
- Start the broadcast from YouTube Studio when the preview and health indicators look right, then continue checking the feed after launch.
For local playout, leave the computer powered and connected, and consider what you will do if the application, internet, or power stops. A local encoder depends on those components; do not assume a dropped connection will recover automatically. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing and monitoring stream health: encoder settings and stream health.

Set viewer controls and understand replay limits
YouTube’s DVR option lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. Scheduled streams can appear as upcoming, where viewers may opt into “Notify me.” Decide whether those options suit a continuous ambient stream and check the current Live Control Room settings before launch.
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If the broadcast is expected to run longer, do not assume the full stream will be available as a replay; check YouTube’s current archive guidance and plan how you want viewers to access the program afterward.
