You can loop a prepared Tamil music video indefinitely with FFmpeg, publish it to MediaMTX over RTSP, then have MediaMTX forward the stream to YouTube Live over RTMPS. You need a compatible audio-and-video file, a current YouTube ingest URL and stream key from Live Control Room, and the rights to broadcast the recording. This workflow does not grant music rights; a rights holder may also need to allowlist your channel.
What you need before you start
- A media file you are authorized to broadcast. A song recording can involve rights in both the composition and the sound recording. Giving credit, subscribing to a music service, or owning a copy does not by itself grant rebroadcast permission. Check the license and applicable rules for your use.
- FFmpeg and MediaMTX. Install versions suitable for your operating system and consult their current documentation; the commands below follow MediaMTX’s documented FFmpeg-to-RTSP method, but have not been tested against a particular version or file.
- A YouTube channel enabled to go live. Get the current server URL and stream key from the channel’s YouTube Live Control Room at setup time. Do not rely on a host copied from an old tutorial.
- Enough sustained upload bandwidth. The connection from the machine running MediaMTX must carry the outgoing stream continuously. YouTube advises testing upload capacity and checking stream health before and during a broadcast.
MediaMTX describes its approach this way: “The recommended way is acting as a RTSP client.” See its Publish with FFmpeg guide.
Loop an MP4 forever and publish it to MediaMTX
Start MediaMTX with a path that can receive a publisher. In the default configuration, a publisher can publish to a path such as mystream; if you changed authentication or path settings, use the corresponding authorized path in both commands.
- Open a terminal on the machine running MediaMTX and verify that the server is running and listening for RTSP publishers. The documented local RTSP destination uses port
8554. - Run the loop-and-publish command:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i file.mp4 -c copy -f rtsp rtsp://localhost:8554/mystreamReplace
file.mp4with the path to your file if it is not in the current directory. Replacelocalhostif FFmpeg and MediaMTX are on different machines, and use the reachable server address and configured port. - Check FFmpeg’s output. It should continue reading and sending packets rather than exit with an error.
-stream_loop -1repeats the input without a set limit;-rereads at real-time pace.-c copycopies the source streams without transcoding, so it does not make incompatible codecs compatible.
Before relying on stream copy, confirm that the file has both audio and video and that its codecs and container are suitable for the selected YouTube ingest mode. If they are not, choose and test an appropriate encode or remux workflow for that source instead of assuming -c copy will fix it.

Forward the MediaMTX path to YouTube Live
Configure MediaMTX to forward the published path to the RTMPS destination shown by your account. In MediaMTX’s documented forwarding format, the destination is written as the ingest URL, a #, and the stream key:
paths:
mystream:
source: publisher
forward:
- rtmps://CURRENT-INGEST-URL#YOUR-STREAM-KEY
This is a format illustration, not a usable YouTube hostname or key. Replace the destination with the current RTMPS URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room, following the current MediaMTX forwarding instructions. Keep the key private: do not expose it in screenshots, shared configuration, or public logs. Protect access to the configuration file and follow the documentation for your installed MediaMTX version.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or open the live event and copy its current ingest URL and stream key.
- Add the forwarding destination to the MediaMTX configuration for the same path that FFmpeg publishes to.
- Apply the configuration using the method documented for your MediaMTX installation, then watch its logs for forwarding or connection errors.
- Confirm in Live Control Room that the incoming preview includes both picture and sound before starting the public broadcast.
MediaMTX warns: “YouTube requires streams to have both a video and an audio track.” A video-only input may be silently rejected. Its example server host reflects what YouTube reported when that documentation was updated, so use the value currently supplied to your account, not a static tutorial value.
Set stream quality to match YouTube and your connection
The FFmpeg command above copies the file’s existing streams; its quality and encoding settings are therefore determined by the file. YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264 video, constant bitrate encoding, a recommended two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. If the source does not meet the target settings, an explicitly chosen and tested encode is needed; the copy command will not change bitrate, codec, resolution, or keyframe interval.

The bitrate examples are YouTube’s published recommendations, not universal minimums or measurements of your connection. YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Test the actual stream before the broadcast and monitor stream health while it is live. Leave capacity for normal network variation rather than planning around a speed-test peak.

RTMPS or HLS: choose the ingest mode deliberately
| Consideration | RTMPS | HLS |
|---|---|---|
| Fit for this workflow | The direct route shown in MediaMTX’s YouTube forwarding example; YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. | A separate ingestion mode, not a drop-in replacement for the RTMPS destination. |
| Encoder and media support | Follow YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS codec guidance, including H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio. | YouTube identifies HLS for cases such as HDR or codecs outside RTMP support; match the encoder output to HLS requirements. |
| Transport and packaging requirements | Use the current RTMPS ingest URL and key supplied in Live Control Room. | YouTube’s HLS guidance requires an HTTPS URL, TS segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, rolling playlists, segments of 1–4 seconds, and no more than five outstanding segments. |
| Latency | Use the latency options available for the selected YouTube setup. | HLS disables YouTube’s ultra-low-latency option and has higher latency than the low-latency RTMP-style route. |
| Documented MediaMTX setup for this article’s task | MediaMTX documents forwarding a path to a YouTube RTMPS destination. | A complete MediaMTX-to-YouTube HLS recipe for this exact workflow is not established by the cited guidance. |
Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance before changing protocols. Do not simply substitute an HLS URL in the RTMPS configuration: the packaging, transport, and encoder output must match HLS ingestion.

YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” Identified material may lead to a placeholder image, a warning, interruption, or termination. YouTube also says that even creators who have licensed third-party content may need the rights owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming.

For Tamil songs, confirm that permission covers the intended live broadcast, territory, and use, and ask the relevant rights holder or distributor whether channel allowlisting is required. YouTube’s Copyright issues with live streams explains its live-stream matching process. This is platform guidance, not legal advice.
Troubleshooting common failures
- FFmpeg cannot connect to RTSP: confirm MediaMTX is running, the RTSP port is reachable, the host and path match the server configuration, and any authentication settings are satisfied.
- FFmpeg exits or reports an unsupported format: check the file path and inspect whether the input can be read. Stream copy does not transcode; use a tested encode or remux appropriate to the file and target protocol if necessary.
- YouTube does not show an incoming stream: verify that the forwarding entry is attached to the published path, the current ingest URL and key are correct, and MediaMTX can reach the destination. Re-fetch the URL and key from Live Control Room rather than reusing an old value.
- YouTube sees video but no audio, or rejects the stream: verify that the source and outgoing stream contain both tracks and that the audio codec is supported for the selected ingest mode.
- The preview buffers or stream health is poor: compare the outgoing bitrate with sustained upload capacity, test before broadcast, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. Reduce the target load or improve the connection if it cannot sustain the chosen output.
- The stream is interrupted after music matching: stop and resolve the rights issue with the rights holder; if the content is licensed, ask whether your channel must be added to the Content ID allowlist. Do not assume restarting the stream resolves a rights claim.
