Then connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream, choose a stable bitrate for the store’s actual upload connection, and test the stream before relying on it.
Set up a looping promo in OBS
- Add the video: In OBS, select the scene you want to use, click the + in the Sources panel, choose Media Source, and give the source a name. Select the promo video as a local file. OBS documents Media Source as the option for playing an individual file. OBS Media Sources.
- Enable looping: In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS defines this setting as replaying the file when playback completes. Restart playback when source becomes active is enabled by default, and Show nothing when playback ends is also enabled by default; check the loop in the OBS preview to confirm the file restarts rather than leaving a blank scene. - Fit the image to the scene: In the preview, select the source and use the transform controls to fit it to the canvas if its proportions or dimensions do not fill the frame as intended. Check for unwanted black bars, cropping, or stretched text before going live.
- Set audio deliberately: Listen to the promo in the OBS preview and check the Audio Mixer meter while it plays. Confirm that the intended video audio is audible and that unrelated microphone or desktop audio sources are muted if the store stream should contain only the promo.
Loop a playlist of multiple promos
For several video files, add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for this source to appear, and Loop Playlist is on by default. For one promo file, use Media Source instead. OBS Media Sources.
Choose YouTube encoder settings that fit the store connection
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder baseline is H.264 video, CBR rate control, and a 2-second keyframe interval (YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds). The listed maximum frame rate is 60 fps. For SDR, YouTube’s advanced recommendations include Rec. 709 color space, 8-bit depth, progressive scan, square pixels, and 128 Kbps stereo audio. Use RTMPS when available; YouTube recommends it as the secure extension to RTMP. YouTube encoder settings.
Match resolution and bitrate to the upload connection’s demonstrated capacity. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not guarantees that a particular Indian store connection can sustain them. For a static or mostly text-based store promo, 30 fps may be sufficient; choose 60 fps only if the source material benefits from it and the connection reliably supports the higher bitrate. If OBS or YouTube reports instability, reduce the resolution or bitrate and test again. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into multiple output formats for viewers. YouTube encoder settings.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s password and address, so do not share or publish the key. YouTube stream keys.
- In OBS, start streaming. Check that the Live Control Room receives the signal and displays a preview before making the stream public or starting the scheduled event.
Check channel eligibility and test before opening
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Start with the Live Control Room preview and test with representative promo audio and motion. YouTube’s instruction is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Monitor the stream-health messages, audio, and video quality while it runs. YouTube live streaming tips.

There is no special India-only OBS loop control or encoder bitrate established by YouTube’s general guidance. The practical India-specific variable is the upload connection available at the store. Test on that exact connection, at the time and location the stream will run, before depending on a long-running broadcast.
Copyright and promo content checks
Use video, music, images, and other material that the store has the right to broadcast on YouTube. A track or clip that is licensed for in-store playback is not automatically cleared for a public livestream; confirm the license covers online streaming and the intended territory. YouTube can detect or restrict copyrighted content in live streams. Keep the stream key private and use the YouTube preview to catch content or audio problems before the event.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
- The video goes blank or stops: Confirm Loop is enabled on the Media Source and that the selected file plays correctly in OBS’s local preview. Check that the source has not been hidden or removed from the active scene.
- The playlist source is missing: Install VLC, then reopen or refresh OBS. The VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. OBS Media Sources.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or dropped frames: Check the actual upload speed and other traffic on the store connection. Lower bitrate or output resolution, then test again; a listed YouTube bitrate recommendation does not guarantee the local connection can maintain it.
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that OBS is using the correct stream URL and current stream key from the intended YouTube encoder stream. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
- The promo has no sound or unwanted sound: Watch the OBS Audio Mixer while the file plays. Confirm the video’s audio is present and mute any microphone or desktop source that should not be broadcast.
- The image is cropped, stretched, or letterboxed: Compare the file’s aspect ratio with the OBS canvas and inspect the preview before going live. Adjust the source transform or output layout rather than stretching text and logos.
How long YouTube archives a live stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a longer-running promo stream, do not assume the entire broadcast will be available as an archive. Stop the encoder after the event ends. YouTube live streaming setup.
