To loop a video without restarting your YouTube broadcast, enable Loop in the OBS Media Source properties and leave OBS streaming. The setting repeats the video inside your scene; it does not stop and restart the outgoing stream.
Loop one video in OBS
- In the OBS scene you are streaming, go to the Sources dock and click +.
- Select Media Source. Create a new source or choose an existing one, then open its properties.
- Select the local video file you want to play.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the properties. OBS documents this option as replaying the file when playback completes (OBS Media Sources).
- Make sure the source is present and visible in the scene being sent to YouTube.
- Keep the OBS streaming session running. The media source loops independently of the encoder stream.
OBS sources are added to scenes through the Sources dock (OBS Sources Guide). You do not need to end the YouTube broadcast to make the clip play again.
Loop a playlist of videos
For several clips that should play in order and repeat, use OBS’s VLC Video Source instead of a single Media Source.
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for this source; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In the Sources dock, click + and add VLC Video Source.
- In the source properties, add the video files to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback starts over when the playlist finishes.
- Choose the source’s visibility behavior. If it should keep playing while hidden, set the behavior to continue; pause or stop are alternatives when hidden playback is not wanted.

Which OBS source should you use?

Keep the YouTube broadcast live
Do not click Stop Streaming or stop sending encoder content if you want the current broadcast to remain active. YouTube’s encoder guide says that stopping content from the encoder ends the stream (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
YouTube also has auto-start and auto-stop settings. When those are enabled, starting or stopping from the encoder can start or stop the broadcast (Manage live stream settings). Set the OBS media source to loop while leaving the outgoing stream alone; do not use a broadcast restart to replay the clip.

Check the scene change before relying on it live
The loop setting controls media playback, but the official OBS and YouTube documentation does not guarantee that every live scene or source edit will look seamless. Test the specific scene and source setup before using it in a production stream. OBS recommends testing stream setups in its OBS Studio Overview Guide.
