To loop a prerecorded sound bath in a YouTube Live broadcast, add the recording to OBS Studio as a Media Source, turn on Loop in its properties, and send OBS’s output to YouTube through the Live Control Room. The repeat happens in OBS before the feed reaches YouTube; YouTube’s player Loop option only repeats a regular video for an individual viewer.
Choose the right kind of loop
| Method | Where the repeat happens | What viewers get |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube player Loop | In each viewer’s YouTube player | A regular video or playlist repeats for that viewer; it does not create a live broadcast. |
| OBS Media Source Loop | In OBS, before the encoder sends its feed | The recording repeats inside a YouTube Live broadcast. |
If you only want to replay an already uploaded recording while watching, use YouTube’s player loop. If you want the session to appear as a live broadcast, use an encoder workflow such as OBS.
Set up a looping sound bath in OBS
1. Check live-stream eligibility
Before configuring OBS, make sure your YouTube channel is verified and has not had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. These are YouTube’s stated live-stream eligibility requirements; check the current YouTube live-streaming guidance if your channel cannot start a broadcast.
2. Add the recording as a Media Source
- Open OBS Studio and create or select a scene for the sound bath.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source.
- Open the source properties, select the local sound-bath recording, and enable Loop.
- Confirm the source is visible in the scene and that its audio is reaching OBS’s mixer.
OBS documents local audio and video file support and the Media Source loop option in its Media Sources guide. The exact interface can vary by OBS version.

3. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select a stream.
- Find the encoder connection details and copy the stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. The key tells the encoder where to send its feed and lets YouTube accept it; treat it as private.
- Use the connection protocol and setup instructions shown for your stream. YouTube lists OBS as an encoder for HLS output, but HLS-specific settings apply only when you choose HLS.
- Start the encoder feed from OBS and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room.
Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions for the selected protocol rather than assuming HLS settings apply to every connection.
4. Preview and monitor the broadcast
Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast. Listen for clean, continuous audio, confirm that the intended image or scene is visible, and verify the event’s accessibility setting. During the session, monitor audio and video quality. YouTube recommends setting up encoder streams in advance and checking the preview before going live; see its live-streaming tips.

5. Decide how to end and preserve the session
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a reliable copy, keep a local archive backup rather than relying only on YouTube’s archive. Review YouTube’s archiving guidance before planning a long session.
Sound bath and YouTube checks before going live
- Confirm you have the rights to the recording. Use your own recording or material you are authorized to broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and its copyright rules apply to a live feed as well as an uploaded video.
- Check the whole loop, not only its beginning. Listen across the file’s end and restart so you can catch an abrupt cut, silence, or an unwanted gap.
- Test levels and the scene. Check the OBS audio mixer and preview before sending the stream to viewers.
- Plan the duration. If preserving the broadcast matters, account for YouTube’s 12-hour archive caveat and make a local backup.
Troubleshooting
The stream does not appear in YouTube Live
Confirm the channel meets YouTube’s verification and restriction requirements, the correct stream key is configured, and the protocol selected in OBS matches the stream setup. Check whether Live Control Room receives an encoder preview before attempting to start the event.

There is no audio or the level is wrong
Verify that the Media Source is active, that its audio appears in OBS’s mixer, and that the Live Control Room preview carries sound. Make adjustments before going live, then monitor during the session.
