1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo loop podcast episodes on YouTube Live without ending the broadcast, keep OBS Studio streaming and loop the media inside OBS. Use a Media Source with Loop enabled for one file, or a VLC Video Source with Loop Playlist enabled for multiple files. The media repeats in the outgoing program while OBS’s encoder feed stays connected to YouTube.
Choose the right OBS source
| What you want to repeat | OBS source | Loop control | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| One local audio or video file | Media Source | Loop | OBS media-source workflow |
| Several local files in sequence | VLC Video Source | Loop Playlist; leave Shuffle off for a predictable sequence | VLC installed with the same architecture as OBS |
OBS lists common supported media formats including MP4 and MOV video, and MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV audio. Check the OBS Media Sources documentation for source behavior and format details.
Set up and loop the podcast files in OBS
- Prepare your files. Keep the podcast media accessible on the computer running OBS. Confirm that each file plays and that the episode order is correct before you go live.
- Add a source for one file. In your OBS scene, add a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. This repeats that file; it does not control a multi-file playlist.
- Or add a source for multiple files. Add a VLC Video Source, populate its playlist with the podcast files, and enable Loop Playlist. Leave Shuffle off if the episodes should repeat in the same order. OBS describes Loop Playlist as restarting the source when it runs out of media files.
- Install VLC if the source is unavailable. VLC Video Source requires VLC. Match its architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Restart OBS after installation if needed.
- Decide what happens when the source is hidden. Review the source’s Visibility Behaviour. Depending on the selected option, the source can stop or restart, pause or resume, or continue playing while hidden. Choose the behavior that fits your scenes; if the playlist must keep advancing during a scene change, ensure it is not set to stop when hidden.
- Test playback before broadcasting. Confirm the first item appears and its audio is audible, then let the playlist reach an item transition. Check that it advances in the intended order and returns to the beginning at the end.
For the exact source controls, see OBS’s Media Sources guide.
Connect OBS to YouTube and keep the encoder running
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select your stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key for the encoder workflow you are using.
- In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the YouTube stream URL and key. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers stream URLs, keys, and controls.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Start or confirm the YouTube event as required by the workflow you selected.
- During the broadcast, leave OBS sending the program feed. The OBS source loops the podcast media; stopping the encoder is not necessary for the playlist to repeat.
- To end the broadcast, stop sending content from the encoder and end the stream in YouTube. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; see YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the stream workflow and ending behavior.
Understand which playlist is looping
The playlist in this setup is part of the program OBS sends to YouTube: OBS plays the local media into a scene, and its encoder sends that scene as a live feed. YouTube’s viewer-player controls do not insert a viewer’s YouTube playlist into an already-running encoder broadcast. For the broadcast to repeat podcast files, configure the loop in OBS.

- STUDIO SOUND, ZERO EXPERTISE: APHEX audio processing presets make voices broadcast-ready with one tap

- SHOW CONTROL: 8 customizable SMART pads trigger music, sound effects and mix-minus phone calls live
- IN THE BOX: RØDECaster Pro II console, power supply and USB-C cable, add your microphones
YouTube also uses the term “playlist” for a rolling transport playlist in its HLS ingestion requirements. That is an encoder-to-platform protocol detail, not your episode list or a setting for repeating content. Most users following the OBS workflow do not need to change HLS transport settings to loop their media. See YouTube’s HLS setup requirements.
Test the stream and choose encoder settings
Before relying on a live broadcast, test with audio and motion similar to the real program. Check the Live Control Room preview, listen for audio, and monitor stream health. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring.

There is no single bitrate that fits every stream. YouTube publishes recommendations that vary by codec and output format. Use its encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec; YouTube recommends RTMPS. Do not change output settings merely to make the OBS playlist loop.
Troubleshoot common looping and connection problems
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, make sure its architecture matches OBS, and restart OBS if necessary. The VLC-backed source depends on that installation.
- A single file stops at the end: Check that you added it as a Media Source and enabled Loop. That control is separate from Loop Playlist.
- The multi-file playlist stops at the end: Confirm Loop Playlist is enabled and that the expected files are listed in the VLC Video Source.
- Playback stops after a scene change: Review the source’s Visibility Behaviour. Select a behavior that lets playback continue while hidden if the playlist should advance off-scene.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that OBS has the current stream URL and key from Live Control Room. YouTube’s live stream troubleshooting guide directs encoder users to copy the stream key from Live Control Room and paste it into the encoder.
- The preview, audio, or connection is unreliable: Test before the event, inspect the preview, monitor stream health, and check YouTube’s encoder recommendations for your selected resolution, frame rate, codec, and connection. Bitrate recommendations vary rather than defining one universal value.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded recordings without leaving OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed.
