To loop multiple local video files in an OBS broadcast, add them to a VLC Video Source, enable Loop Playlist, then send OBS to YouTube Live with the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. VLC must be installed, and its architecture must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
Choose the right OBS source

Do not confuse this with YouTube’s player loop control. That repeats a playlist for someone watching YouTube; it does not send your files as a live broadcast. Set up a looping playlist in OBS
- Install VLC and check the match. Install VLC before configuring the source. If OBS was already open, restart it after installation, then check the Sources dock to see whether VLC Video Source is available. Match the architectures; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS: Media Sources
- Add the playlist source. In the scene you will broadcast, select + in the Sources dock and choose VLC Video Source. Name it clearly, then add the local video files to its playlist.
- Enable repeat and choose an order. Open the source properties and turn on Loop Playlist. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if you want the files to play in their listed order. OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- Check the scene and audio. Position and size the source in the scene. Confirm that video appears in the preview and that audio is audible in the OBS mixer. Check the whole playlist, including transitions between files, before relying on it for a public broadcast.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and create or select the stream. Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room into OBS’s stream settings. - Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room, then use its Go live workflow for a scheduled stream. Test beforehand with representative motion and audio, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages while live. Check rights and YouTube’s live-stream rules
Looping a file does not change the rights or YouTube rules that apply to its contents. Before broadcasting, make sure you have the necessary rights to the video and audio, and review YouTube’s current live-stream requirements and policies for the channel and content. A successful OBS preview confirms signal delivery, not permission to broadcast or eligibility under YouTube policies.

Troubleshoot common playlist and connection problems
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, confirm its architecture matches OBS, and reopen OBS. OBS specifically requires 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. OBS: Media Sources
- Only one file repeats: Check whether you added the built-in Media Source, which loops one file. For multiple files, use VLC Video Source and its Loop Playlist setting.
- The playlist stops at the end: Open the VLC Video Source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Files play in a different order than expected: Check Shuffle Playlist. Turn it off for listed order; OBS documents it as off by default.
- You enabled loop on YouTube, but no live show is being sent: YouTube’s loop control is for viewer playback. Add the local playlist to OBS and send OBS to YouTube using the encoder connection.
- YouTube has no live preview: Confirm OBS is sending and that its stream settings contain the correct server URL and stream key. Wait for YouTube’s preview before using the Live Control Room’s Go live workflow for a scheduled stream. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
