To loop a 4K 60fps video on YouTube Live with OBS, add the file as a Media Source, enable Loop, set OBS to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, then connect OBS to the stream URL and key for your YouTube broadcast. For a stable stream, match the encoder bitrate to YouTube’s codec-specific guidance and the sustained upload capacity at your actual location in India.

Before you start: check YouTube eligibility

YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. Its general guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Check your channel’s status before configuring OBS. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance has the current requirements.

Create the YouTube broadcast and protect its stream key

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a broadcast or select the scheduled live event you intend to use.
  2. In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. Enter them in OBS’s streaming settings for the broadcast.
  3. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it with anyone who should not control the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.

YouTube documents stream keys and controls in Manage live stream settings. For the connection, choose RTMPS when available; YouTube recommends it because it encrypts the data transfer. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers protocol and ingest settings.

Add a video and make it loop in OBS

  1. In OBS, select the scene for your broadcast and add a source with + in the Sources panel.
  2. Choose Media Source, create a source, and select the local video file you want to play.
  3. Enable the source’s Loop property. This repeats the selected file when playback reaches the end.
  4. Use Restart playback when source becomes active only if you want playback to restart when the source enters the visible scene. It is separate from Loop.
  5. Check that the video fills the canvas as intended and that its audio is enabled in the OBS mixer.

OBS Media Source supports local video files, including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. For a playlist rather than one file, OBS also offers VLC Video, which requires VLC to be installed and has a Loop Playlist property. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation for the source properties and supported formats.

Set OBS to 4K at 60 fps

For a 4K output, set the canvas and output resolution to 3840 × 2160 and the frame rate to 60 fps. In OBS, these are under Settings → Video. Set the output scaling option to 3840 × 2160 as well if you are using a different base canvas; otherwise OBS may send a lower-resolution output.

Under Settings → Output, select an encoder that your computer supports and YouTube accepts. Encoder availability and processing load depend on the computer and its hardware. YouTube’s published RTMP/RTMPS guidance calls for constant bitrate (CBR), progressive scan, square pixels, up to 60 fps, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. For SDR, it specifies Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Match the settings to your chosen codec and encoder options rather than assuming all devices expose the same controls.

Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain

YouTube publishes different 4K/2160p at 60 fps bitrate guidance by codec. The figures below are YouTube’s encoder recommendations; they are not a guarantee that an internet connection can sustain them.

Codec YouTube-published minimum YouTube-published recommendation
AV1 or H.265 10 Mbps 35 Mbps
H.264 14 Mbps 50 Mbps

These codec-specific figures are from YouTube’s encoder settings guidance; the help page does not state a publication year. Test sustained upload speed on the exact connection OBS will use. A speed test is only a snapshot, so leave headroom rather than setting OBS to the highest number it reports. Advertised download speed, or a general assumption about broadband in India, does not establish that a particular connection can reliably upload a 4K stream.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

If the connection or encoder cannot hold the selected bitrate steadily, reduce the bitrate and consider lowering output resolution or frame rate. Prioritize a stable stream over a nominal 4K label. YouTube’s guidance also says that 2160p streams do not have the low-latency option and use normal latency.

Connect OBS, test the loop, then go live

  1. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select the YouTube service, and enter the stream URL and key from the intended YouTube broadcast. Use the RTMPS ingest address when supplied or supported.
  2. Start streaming from OBS while the YouTube broadcast is in preview. Check the Live Control Room preview before making the event public.
  3. Let the video reach its end and confirm it starts again. Listen through the loop point for an audio cut, gap, unexpected silence, or abrupt transition.
  4. Check picture framing, resolution, audio levels, and YouTube’s stream health indicators. Fix problems in OBS before promoting or starting a public event.
  5. During the live stream, continue monitoring audio, video, and stream health rather than assuming a successful start means the broadcast remains stable.

YouTube advises testing and checking the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Its live-streaming tips explain the preflight and monitoring approach.

Troubleshoot common 4K looping problems

  • The video plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. Confirm you are editing the source used in the active scene.
  • The video restarts when changing scenes but does not repeat continuously: Restart playback when source becomes active is not the loop control. Enable Loop separately.
  • YouTube reports poor stream health or the picture stutters: The connection may not sustain the configured bitrate, or the computer may be struggling to encode 4K/60. Check actual upload stability and encoder load; reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate until the stream is stable.
  • The stream will not connect: Recheck the selected YouTube broadcast, stream URL, and key in OBS. Ensure the key has not been changed or exposed, and use the ingest protocol and address YouTube provides.
  • The stream is live but appears lower-resolution: Verify both OBS’s output resolution and the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that OBS is not scaling output below 3840 × 2160.
  • Audio cuts or jumps at the loop point: Play through the end-to-start transition in a test broadcast. If the source itself has a discontinuity, edit or replace the video file; OBS’s Loop property repeats the file but does not smooth its contents.
