To load an ebook onto an XTEINK reader, first identify the exact model and use a file that its firmware supports. On the X4 Pro, XTEINK documents two routes: import the book in the XTEINK app and sync it over Wi-Fi, or connect the reader to a computer, choose USB Mode, and copy the file. The X4 Pro specification names EPUB and TXT as document formats. Other models have different guides and, in the case of the X4 Classic, a broader format list with important support warnings.

The steps below separate transferring a file from opening it. If a book reaches the reader but will not appear or open, check its actual format and copy protection before repeating the transfer.

Which XTEINK model do you have?

XTEINK publishes separate instructions for the X4 Classic (also called X4 V2), X4 Pro, X3, and the first-generation X4. Menu names and transfer behavior should not be assumed to be identical across those readers. The fully documented procedure in this guide is for the X4 Pro; use the guide for your exact model when its menus differ.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Find the model before connecting anything

  • Check the model name printed on the reader, its packaging, or its device information screen.
  • Distinguish the X4 Classic/X4 V2 from the first-generation X4. They are separate products with separate official guides.
  • Use the model-specific format information, not a format list copied from another XTEINK reader.
  • Note the firmware or software version if the device displays one. A menu that differs from the instructions may reflect a different model or a later firmware revision.

Why model identification matters

An EPUB that is listed for one XTEINK model is not automatically guaranteed on another. The same warning applies to transfer controls: the X4 Pro procedure uses an upper-right menu, Cloud Sync, and USB Mode, but those labels should not be presumed to exist on every XTEINK reader. Start with the device-specific guide whenever the screen does not match the steps here.

What ebook files can an XTEINK reader open?

Compatibility is a property of the reader model and firmware, not of the transfer method. Copying an unsupported or store-locked file successfully will not make it readable.

X4 Pro formats

XTEINK’s detailed X4 Pro specification lists EPUB and TXT as document formats. Start with one of those formats when loading an X4 Pro, and keep the original file if you need to convert it for another device. The app and USB procedures do not add format support; they only move a file the reader can already handle.

X4 Classic/X4 V2 formats and caveats

The X4 Classic product page’s detailed specification also lists EPUB and TXT. Its FAQ additionally lists TXT, EPUB, MOBI, PDF, XTCH, XTC, and XTCZ, but the same FAQ warns that MOBI and PDF may not be fully supported by firmware. It recommends conversion through the official app before transfer when those formats are involved.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For image-heavy material such as comics, the X4 Classic FAQ recommends converting through XT-Cloud or the official app to XTCH, XTC, or XTCZ. Treat those FAQ entries as model-specific guidance with firmware qualifications, not as a guarantee that every listed extension opens on every XTEINK reader.

What “compatible” means in practice

A compatible file has the right internal format for the specific reader, is not damaged, and is not locked in a way the reader cannot authorize. A filename ending in .epub is not proof that the contents are a valid EPUB, and renaming a PDF or MOBI does not convert it. If a file was downloaded from a retailer, check whether the download is an ordinary transferable file or an app-specific package before attempting either route.

DRM and store protection

A file can have a familiar extension and still be unusable if it is protected by a retailer’s digital-rights system. An independent comparison reports that the X3, X4 Classic, and X4 Pro do not run Kindle or Kobo apps, so these readers require DRM-free files or files that you are otherwise lawfully able to transfer. Do not attempt to bypass copy protection; obtain an unrestricted download or use the retailer’s supported reading app instead.

Prepare the file and reader first

A few checks prevent the most common false diagnosis. Decide whether the book is on a phone or a computer, verify the exact XTEINK model, and check the model’s supported-format list before starting. For an X4 Pro, an EPUB or TXT file is the safest starting point because both appear in its detailed specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Keep the original download. If a conversion is needed, make a separate converted copy so the source remains available.
  • Confirm that the file is fully downloaded rather than a cloud placeholder or an incomplete transfer.
  • Make sure you are legally permitted to move the file to the reader. A purchased title is not necessarily a transferable file.
  • Have the reader charged enough to remain connected during a copy or synchronization.
  • For the app route, have the X4 Pro bound in the XTEINK app and ready for Wi-Fi. For the computer route, have a compatible USB connection available.

These checks also make troubleshooting clearer. If the title never reaches the reader, investigate the selected device, connection, or copy operation. If it reaches the library but will not open, investigate format, file integrity, firmware support, or protection.

How do I load an ebook onto an X4 Pro from a phone?

Use the XTEINK app when the compatible ebook is already on your phone. The process has two parts: import the file into the app, then tell the reader to perform Cloud Sync.

  1. Bind the reader. Open the XTEINK app and bind the X4 Pro to your account or app installation as directed by the app.
  2. Connect the X4 Pro to Wi-Fi. The reader must be online for the cloud synchronization step.
  3. Open the device page. In the app, open Devices and select the X4 Pro.
  4. Import the ebook. Tap Import, then choose the compatible ebook file stored on the phone.
  5. Start synchronization on the reader. On the X4 Pro, open the menu in the upper-right corner and select Cloud Sync.
  6. Wait for the operation to finish. Keep the reader connected while the synchronization is underway; do not assume that selecting Import alone has placed the book in the local library.
  7. Open the library. After synchronization completes, look for the imported title in the reader’s library and open it.

The app route transfers the file; it does not convert an unsupported format or remove DRM. If the title does not appear or open, check the file against the X4 Pro’s EPUB/TXT specification and its protection status before importing it again.

When the phone route is the better choice

  • The ebook is downloaded to a phone rather than a computer.
  • You want to avoid handling the reader’s storage from a desktop file manager.
  • The X4 Pro is already bound to the XTEINK app and connected to Wi-Fi.
  • You can select the actual ebook file in the phone’s file picker, rather than a shortcut or an online-only placeholder.

Phone-route pitfalls

The most important distinction is between importing and syncing. Selecting a file in Devices > X4 Pro > Import prepares it in the app, while Cloud Sync on the reader retrieves it. A reader that is not connected to Wi-Fi cannot complete that documented synchronization step. If the app is showing a different device name or no X4 Pro, recheck binding and the model before trying another file.

How do I load an ebook onto an X4 Pro from a computer?

Use USB mode when the compatible file is on a computer. The documented route is a direct copy: connect the reader, switch the reader to USB Mode, wait for it to appear on the computer, and copy the file.

  1. Connect the reader. Attach the X4 Pro to the computer with a compatible USB connection.
  2. Open the reader menu. On the X4 Pro, open the menu in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select USB Mode. Choose USB Mode on the reader.
  4. Wait for the device to appear. Once the reader is shown on the computer, open its storage in the computer’s file manager.
  5. Copy the file. Drag or copy the compatible ebook file to the X4 Pro’s visible storage.
  6. Allow the copy to finish. Do not disconnect while the computer is still writing the file. A partially copied ebook may be listed but fail to open.
  7. Finish the connection safely. Close the file operation and disconnect the reader using your computer’s normal safe-eject procedure when available.
  8. Check the library. Open the ebook from the reader after the copy has completed.

If the file does not show up or will not open, check compatibility first. A successful USB copy does not make an unsupported format readable.

When the computer route is the better choice

  • The ebook is already stored on a desktop or laptop.
  • You want a direct file-management workflow rather than app binding and cloud synchronization.
  • You need to copy several compatible files from an organized computer folder.
  • You want a route that, as documented for X4 Pro, does not include a Wi-Fi or Cloud Sync step.

USB-route pitfalls

Connecting a cable alone is not the complete procedure. The X4 Pro must be placed in USB Mode before its storage is expected to appear. If the computer does not show the reader, verify the cable and connection, then confirm the mode on the reader. If storage appears but the title is absent afterward, check that the copy reached the reader’s visible storage and completed before disconnecting.

Which XTEINK transfer route should I choose?

For an X4 Pro, choose based on where the file is and which setup you already have. Both routes still require a compatible, lawfully transferable ebook.

The official X4 Pro FAQ documents these app and USB-mode routes. A microSD card reader is an optional physical aid for a card-based workflow, not a requirement for either documented route.

Do I need to replace or expand the X4 Pro microSD card?

No. XTEINK states that the X4 Pro includes a 16 GB microSD card and supports expansion up to 256 GB. You can use the documented app or USB route without buying another card.

Consider a replacement or larger card only when the included card is damaged or your collection needs more capacity. Card capacity does not change the reader’s ebook-format rules: a larger card still cannot make an unsupported or protected book open. If you do replace a card, treat that as a storage task separate from the app and USB transfer procedures, and follow the current model-specific instructions for handling removable storage.

What should I do if the transferred ebook does not appear?

Work through transfer and compatibility separately. Repeating the same copy operation is unlikely to help if the reader has already received a file it cannot recognize.

1. Confirm the exact model

Check whether the reader is an X4 Pro, X4 Classic/X4 V2, X3, or first-generation X4. Open the model’s current official guide if its menu labels do not match the X4 Pro instructions in this article.

2. Inspect the real file type

Do not rely only on the title or the icon shown by a computer. For an X4 Pro, begin with EPUB or TXT. For an X4 Classic, remember that the detailed specification lists EPUB and TXT while the FAQ’s broader list carries warnings for MOBI and PDF.

3. Convert where the model’s guidance calls for it

On the X4 Classic, XTEINK recommends conversion through the official app for MOBI or PDF that may not be fully supported. For comics and other image-heavy files, its guidance points to XTCH, XTC, or XTCZ conversion through XT-Cloud or the official app.

4. Check copy protection

If the file came from a store, determine whether it is DRM-free or otherwise downloadable for transfer to a device you own. XTEINK readers do not run Kindle or Kobo apps according to independent comparison reporting, and this guide does not provide instructions for bypassing protection.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Distinguish “not listed” from “will not open”

If the book is visible on the reader but fails when opened, the format or protection is the leading issue to investigate. If it never appears, verify that the copy completed, that you selected the correct device in the app, or that the reader was actually in USB Mode before moving on to format conversion.

6. Test one known-compatible file

For an X4 Pro, testing a small, unrestricted EPUB or TXT file can help separate a connection problem from a problem with one particular download. If that test file appears and opens, return to the original title’s format, integrity, or rights status rather than repeating the same transfer indefinitely.

What should I do if the app or USB menus look different?

Do not force the X4 Pro sequence onto another model. XTEINK’s guide index separates the X4 Classic, X4 Pro, X3, and first-generation X4, and firmware changes can alter labels or behavior.

  • Verify the printed model name and hardware generation.
  • Use the current guide for that exact model.
  • Compare the guide’s supported formats with the file you are trying to open.
  • Return to the app or USB instructions only after confirming that the reader is an X4 Pro.
  • Use the wording shown by the reader rather than assuming that a similarly placed menu has the same function.

The model distinction matters even when two readers share an EPUB or TXT entry: the surrounding menu, synchronization, and conversion behavior may differ.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use an ebook from a retailer on an XTEINK reader?

Only when the retailer provides a file that you are allowed to transfer and that the reader supports. A purchase made for an app ecosystem is not automatically a transferable EPUB or TXT file, and changing an extension does not remove DRM or convert the underlying data.

For a transferable title, download the file through the retailer’s lawful export or download option, verify its actual format, and then use the X4 Pro app or USB procedure. If the retailer supplies only an app-locked copy, read it in the supported app rather than attempting to circumvent its protection.

How can I prepare a reliable ebook-transfer workflow?

Use this short checklist before starting a large copy operation:

  • Model: Identify the exact XTEINK reader and its hardware generation.
  • Source: Know whether the file is on a phone or computer.
  • Format: Confirm that the model’s specification or qualified FAQ supports the file type.
  • Rights: Confirm that the file is DRM-free or lawfully transferable.
  • Route: Select the app for phone-based import or USB Mode for computer-based copying on an X4 Pro.
  • Connection: Use Wi-Fi for the app’s Cloud Sync step or a compatible USB connection for USB Mode.
  • Completion: Wait for synchronization or file copying to finish before checking the library or disconnecting.
  • Verification: Open the title on the reader; do not treat a completed copy as proof that the book is readable.

What are the key limits to remember?

The X4 Pro instructions are verified for that model, not for every XTEINK reader. The X4 Classic’s FAQ contains more extensions than its detailed specification and explicitly qualifies MOBI and PDF support. Firmware, app functions, and menu names can change, so the model-specific official guide remains the authority when the on-device wording differs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

XTEINK’s product and support pages checked on October 13, 2026, provide the current model distinctions, format notes, transfer paths, and storage figures described here. Those details should be rechecked when a future firmware or app update changes the labels on your reader.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I load a book onto an X4 Pro without joining it to Wi-Fi?

The documented USB procedure has no Wi-Fi or Cloud Sync step: it uses a compatible USB connection, USB Mode, and a computer copy. The phone-app procedure does require the reader to be connected to Wi-Fi for synchronization.

Does changing “.pdf” or “.mobi” to “.epub” make the file work?

No. Renaming changes the filename suffix, not the file’s internal format, and it does not remove DRM. Use an actual conversion workflow recommended for your model, such as the official app guidance for questionable X4 Classic files.

Is a separate microSD card reader required to transfer books?

No. XTEINK’s documented X4 Pro methods use the app or the reader’s USB Mode, and neither requires an external card reader. A card reader is only an optional convenience for a separate removable-card workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why can two XTEINK pages list different supported formats?

The X4 Classic page combines a concise detailed specification with a broader FAQ list that includes firmware warnings for some extensions. Read the qualification with the format name and follow the guidance for the exact model and current firmware rather than treating the broad list as a universal guarantee.

Which format should I try first on an X4 Pro?

Use an unrestricted EPUB or TXT file first, because those are the document formats named in XTEINK’s detailed X4 Pro specification. If another extension fails, check the exact model guidance before converting or repeating the transfer.

Why did my book copy successfully but fail to open?

Transfer and readability are separate. A completed copy can still be an unsupported format, a damaged file, or a DRM-protected title. Check the model’s format guidance and the file’s protection status before trying the same copy again.

Can I use the X4 Classic’s MOBI or PDF support as proof that my X4 Pro supports those formats?

No. The X4 Classic FAQ lists those extensions with a warning that firmware support may be incomplete, while the X4 Pro detailed specification names EPUB and TXT. Use the guide and specification for the exact reader.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need a larger memory card before loading ebooks?

No. The X4 Pro includes a 16 GB microSD card and supports expansion up to 256 GB. Replace or enlarge it only if the included card is damaged or you need additional capacity; storage size does not change format compatibility.

The Bottom Line

For an X4 Pro, use the XTEINK app and Cloud Sync for a compatible phone-based file, or select USB Mode and copy a compatible file from a computer. EPUB and TXT are the documented X4 Pro formats. Confirm the exact model, avoid DRM-locked files, and consult the model-specific XTEINK guide whenever the menus or supported formats differ.
