For one remote guest, use YouTube’s built-in Go live together feature from the YouTube mobile app. For several people visible at once, multiple cameras, overlays, or a custom layout, use encoder software on a computer and build the scene there. YouTube’s native feature shows only one guest at a time, though the host can rotate guests.

Invite one guest with Go live together

The host needs the YouTube mobile app to start the broadcast with a guest. You can schedule the event first from a computer in Live Control Room, then start it from a phone, or start immediately on mobile.

  1. In the YouTube mobile app, tap Create, then Live. Set the video and broadcast details.
  2. Turn on Go live together, enter the stream metadata, and choose the option to invite a co-streamer.
  3. Send the invitation link by text, email, or a messaging service. The guest opens it on a mobile device and joins the waiting room.
  4. Check audio and video while the guest waits. When ready, start the stream; select Add when the co-streamer is in the waiting room, then go live with them.
  5. Monitor the conversation and use the host controls if you need to remove the guest or rotate to another guest.

YouTube says a Go live together guest can be anyone with a YouTube channel. Its Help page calls hosts “eligible creators” but does not specify a complete feature-specific eligibility checklist, so do not assume a particular subscriber threshold. The feature shows one guest at a time, not several simultaneously; guests cannot see the host’s stream analytics. YouTube Help: Go live together

Put several people on screen with an encoder

Use an encoder workflow when you need a composed scene rather than YouTube’s one-guest layout. YouTube describes encoder streams as a way to use external audio and video hardware and manage advanced productions with multiple cameras and microphones. Software capabilities differ, so confirm that your chosen encoder supports the guest connections and devices you plan to use.

  1. Plan the production. Decide who needs to appear at the same time, which cameras or screens each person will use, and how each voice will reach the encoder. For in-person speakers, consider a microphone per participant or a suitable multi-input audio setup; compatibility depends on the computer, phone, interface or mixer, room, and number of speakers.
  2. Set up the YouTube event. In Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and follow its current prompts for connecting the encoder. Keep the stream key private; use the key provided for that broadcast and do not share it with guests.
  3. Configure the encoder scene. Add the camera, screen, and audio sources you need, arrange the layout, and verify that every participant can be heard without clipping or excessive room noise. Route remote guests through a method supported by the encoder you selected.
  4. Test before the event. Start the encoder early enough to preview the signal in Live Control Room. Confirm the picture, audio, scene changes, and that viewers can access the event before announcing the start.
  5. Run the stream with a host monitoring it. Watch the Live Control Room preview and listen for problems during the broadcast; have a plan to mute a noisy source or remove a contributor if needed.

YouTube’s encoder workflow supports advanced productions, but YouTube does not prescribe one universal software setup or microphone model. Choose equipment and software around the number of speakers and your required connections, then verify compatibility directly with their makers.

Check account access, timing, and bandwidth

  • Confirm live access: YouTube’s general livestream requirements say the channel must be verified, the streamer must be at least 16, and the channel must not have had a livestream restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube says first-time live activation can take up to 24 hours. These are general livestream requirements; the Go live together Help page does not fully explain its separate “eligible creators” wording. YouTube Help: get started with live streaming YouTube Help: encoder streaming
  • Allow setup time for an encoder: YouTube recommends creating and setting up the stream at least two hours before the event, and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before its scheduled start. YouTube Help: live stream tips
  • Leave upload headroom: YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the total stream bitrate. Other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the stream. YouTube Help: live stream tips
  • Preview and monitor: Check the signal in Live Control Room, test both audio and video, and keep monitoring throughout the broadcast. If reliability is critical, consider testing a backup or failover approach before the event. YouTube Help: live stream tips
  • Prepare the guest workflow: For Go live together, send the invite early and ask the guest to check audio and video in the waiting room. Make sure the host knows how to remove a guest if necessary. YouTube Help: Go live together

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The guest invite will not open: Resend the link by text or email instead of the messaging app that failed. Confirm the guest is opening it on a mobile device and joining the waiting room. YouTube Help: Go live together
  • You cannot see multiple guests together: That is a limitation of Go live together, which displays one guest at a time. Rotate guests, or use encoder software if several contributors must appear simultaneously.
  • The stream is not available when you are ready: Check channel verification and livestream access, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Check for a livestream restriction within the past 90 days as well. YouTube Help: get started with live streaming YouTube Help: encoder streaming
  • The encoder preview stutters or drops: Compare the connection’s available upload capacity with the stream’s total bitrate, account for other devices using the connection, and aim for YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Recheck the preview after reducing demand or improving the available connection. YouTube Help: live stream tips
  • A guest is too quiet, missing, or hard to understand: Check the guest’s audio and video in the waiting room before adding them. In an encoder setup, verify the correct audio source and routing for every microphone; test with the actual equipment and room before going live.
  • The stream is not ready at its scheduled time: For encoder streams, follow YouTube’s suggested lead times: complete setup at least two hours ahead and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. Preview the signal in Live Control Room before the audience arrives. YouTube Help: live stream tips

Or let it run in the cloud

For a live conversation, use Go live together or an encoder as described above. If your goal is instead to keep uploaded video looping as a YouTube livestream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera or live guest conversation.
