To livestream to YouTube with Streamlabs Talk Studio, confirm your channel can go live, open Talk Studio in Chrome or Safari, allow camera and microphone access, add your camera to the stream canvas, connect YouTube from Go Live, set visibility and stream details, then start the broadcast. Run a test first and check the preview, sound, picture and stream health.
Before you open Talk Studio: check YouTube eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check YouTube Studio before scheduling a broadcast; a channel that is not yet eligible cannot go live through Talk Studio either. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance also recommends testing and monitoring the stream.
Streamlabs describes extra first-use steps for connecting YouTube to Talk Studio: after phone verification, open YouTube Studio, use its webcam flow for an initial unlisted stream, and wait 24 hours after going live before trying Talk Studio. Streamlabs also says phone verification can take approximately 24 hours. These are Streamlabs’ product-specific onboarding instructions, not a guarantee that every account will show identical prompts; follow the requirements displayed for your channel. See Streamlabs’ YouTube connection instructions.
Check your browser, devices and upload connection
Talk Studio runs in a browser, so this workflow does not require a separate streaming-software download. Streamlabs recommends Google Chrome or Safari, a stable internet connection, and preferably Ethernet. Its getting-started guide gives at least 5 Mbps upload as a starting minimum and these resolution-specific recommendations:
#1 Best Overall
| Target resolution | Streamlabs stated upload requirement | Streamlabs stated recommended upload |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p | 10 Mbps | 20 Mbps |
These are Streamlabs’ published recommendations, not independent test results or a guarantee of a stable stream. Leave room for other devices and applications using your connection. The Talk Studio Getting Started guide was last updated October 1, 2025.
Set up the camera and microphone
- Open Talk Studio in Chrome or Safari and sign in.
- Allow camera and microphone permissions when the browser asks. Select the camera and microphone you intend to use, then check that your camera preview is visible and your microphone registers audio.
- Add your camera to the broadcast canvas. Hover over the camera feed and choose Show on Stream. A preview alone does not necessarily mean the feed has been placed on the outgoing stream.
- Add guests if needed. Choose Add Guest, share the invite link, and add the guest feed to the canvas as appropriate.
If you previously blocked access, reload and allow it when prompted, or change Talk Studio’s site permissions in your browser before reloading. Streamlabs’ Talk Studio walkthrough covers adding the host and guests to the canvas.

Connect YouTube and start the broadcast
- In Talk Studio, select Go Live, then Add Destination.
- Choose YouTube, sign in to the Google account associated with the channel, and grant Talk Studio the requested access.
- On the destination screen, confirm that YouTube is selected.
- Choose the stream’s visibility, then enter its title and description and select a category.
- Check the preview, camera framing and audio one more time. Select Go Live to begin.
The Talk Studio destination workflow connects the account through sign-in and access authorization; it does not ask you to manually copy a YouTube stream key. YouTube also offers separate webcam, mobile and encoder workflows. Talk Studio’s browser workflow should not be confused with configuring a separate encoder.
Choose the right visibility before going live
| Visibility | Who can watch | Discovery and sharing | Useful for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public | Anyone | May appear in search and recommendations | A public event intended to reach viewers |
| Private | People you invite | Not discoverable in search or recommendations; limited to invited viewers | A restricted session |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link | Not discoverable in search or recommendations; the link can be shared | A link-shared test or session |
This is Streamlabs’ explanation of the visibility choices in its Talk Studio guide. For a test meant to be shared with a small group, unlisted is different from private: anyone who gets the unlisted link can watch, whereas private access is limited to invited viewers.

Test and monitor before relying on a live event
Do a short test before an event, especially after changing devices, browser permissions or network connections. Check the YouTube preview and listen for clean, intelligible sound; confirm the picture is present and framed as intended; and watch stream health while broadcasting. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring audio/video quality and stream health.
YouTube’s encoder-settings page discusses settings for encoder-based broadcasts. Those values are not automatically Talk Studio controls or specifications, so do not apply encoder bitrate or keyframe instructions as if they were Talk Studio settings. Use Talk Studio’s own controls and guidance for this browser workflow.

Fix common Talk Studio problems
Talk Studio cannot access the camera or microphone
The browser may have denied permission, or the wrong device may be selected. Allow camera and microphone access in the site permissions, reload, choose the intended devices, and confirm the preview and audio meter respond.
YouTube is unavailable as a destination or the broadcast will not start
Check YouTube Studio for channel verification and any live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first connection, follow the account-specific onboarding prompts; Streamlabs’ documented flow includes an initial YouTube Studio webcam stream and a 24-hour wait before connecting with Talk Studio.

The stream looks unstable or the preview is poor
Check that the connection is stable and that other devices or applications are not consuming upload capacity. Prefer Ethernet where practical, compare your upload capacity with Streamlabs’ published guidance, and run another test. The published figures are guidance rather than a performance guarantee.
The camera preview appears, but viewers cannot see it
Hover over the camera feed and select Show on Stream so it is on the stream canvas. Verify the outgoing preview before starting.
Viewers cannot find or access the stream
Review visibility. A private stream is limited to invited viewers; an unlisted stream is not listed in search or recommendations but works for anyone with its link; a public stream is viewable by anyone.
