In Microsoft Teams on desktop or the web, open the team’s More options menu, choose Leave team, then confirm. Leaving a team is different from leaving an organization or a group chat; each has its own steps.
Leave an individual team on desktop or the web
- In Teams, find the team you want to leave.
- Select the team’s More options menu.
- Select Leave team.
- Confirm when prompted.
Microsoft says you can leave a team yourself. The steps are described in Microsoft’s instructions for leaving a team.
What if you are using Teams on a phone?
Microsoft’s support page gives mobile steps: tap Teams, find the team, and choose More options > Leave team. The same page also says, “You must go to the desktop or web app to leave a team.” Because those instructions conflict, use desktop or web if you do not see the leave option on your phone.
Leaving an organization or an org-wide team
Leaving one team does not remove you from the organization. Microsoft says only an admin can remove you from an organization or an org-wide team. Contact your organization’s administrator if that is what you need; see Microsoft’s team and organization guidance.
