Viber does not send an alert when someone blocks you. The clearest documented pattern is that your messages stay at Sent without being delivered, a Viber call appears to connect but is never answered, the person’s online status and later profile-photo changes are hidden, and you cannot add that person to a group. Any one sign can have another explanation, so look for the pattern rather than treating a single symptom as proof.

What blocking looks like on Viber

Rakuten Viber Support documents several changes that occur for the person who has been blocked:

  • Messages: messages you send continue to show the Sent icon. The recipient does not receive them.
  • Calls: a Viber call can appear to be connecting, but it is not answered and the blocked person does not receive it.
  • Online status: you cannot see the blocker’s online status.
  • Profile photo: you cannot see new changes to the blocker’s profile picture.
  • Groups: you cannot add the blocker to a group. The attempted addition makes the blocker appear to have left automatically.
  • Notification: Viber does not notify you that you were blocked.

People who already share a group can still see each other’s activity in that group, so group activity alone does not rule out a block.

A practical way to check

  1. Send one ordinary message

Note whether it remains Sent instead of changing to a delivered or read state. Give the message reasonable time; a recipient who is offline or has no internet connection can also delay delivery.

  2. Check online status

Look at the contact’s status, but treat a missing status as supporting evidence only. Viber allows people to hide their online status.

  3. Compare profile-photo changes

If you know the person recently changed their picture, check whether the new image is visible to you. Not seeing a change is a weak signal by itself because profile information is controlled by privacy settings.

  4. Place one Viber call

Notice whether the call only appears to connect without ever being answered. Do not repeatedly call; one respectful check is enough.

  5. Use a group-add test only when appropriate

If there is a legitimate reason to create or use a group, try adding the contact once. With a block, Viber documents an automatic result in which the person appears to have left. Do not create a group merely to pressure or monitor someone.

  6. Evaluate the combined pattern

Several matching signs—persistent Sent status, a connecting-but-unanswered call, hidden status or photo updates, and the group-add result—are more consistent with blocking than any one observation.

Blocked, offline, or privacy-hidden?

Viber’s privacy controls can produce some of the same visible effects as a block. Use the differences below as a guide, not as a guarantee.

What you observe Blocked contact Offline or temporarily unreachable Privacy setting hides information
Message status Messages to the blocker remain Sent; the blocker does not receive them. Delivery can be delayed while the recipient lacks connectivity; status may change after they reconnect. Privacy settings do not by themselves prevent message delivery.
Call behavior The call appears to connect but is not answered by, or received by, the blocker. The call may fail or go unanswered while the device or account is unreachable. A hidden status does not necessarily change calling; the person may simply not answer.
Online status Hidden from the blocked person. Usually unavailable while the contact is offline. Viber lets users disable online-status visibility.
Profile-photo changes New changes are hidden from the blocked person. An unchanged image may simply mean no recent update or no refreshed connection. Profile information and connection status are subject to privacy settings.
Adding to a group The blocked person cannot add the blocker; the blocker appears to have left automatically. Connectivity problems can interfere with an attempt, but this specific automatic “left” result is not established by an offline state. Privacy controls alone do not document the same automatic “left” result.
Shared-group activity Existing shared-group activity can remain visible. Activity resumes when the person reconnects. Visibility depends on the group and the person’s settings.

Viber also lets users disable Seen notifications. Therefore, an absent “Seen” indicator is not evidence of a block. Likewise, an account that is deleted, suspended, or otherwise unavailable can behave differently; the documented signs above do not identify the cause on their own.

Answers to common Viber blocking questions

Will my Viber message show “delivered” if I am blocked?

No. According to Viber’s documented behavior, messages sent by a blocked person remain marked Sent and are not received by the blocker.

Why does my Viber call keep connecting but never ring?

That is consistent with being blocked: Viber describes a connection attempt that is not answered and is not received by the blocked person. It can also reflect an unreachable device or a person who does not answer, so combine it with other signs.

Can I see someone’s online status if they blocked me?

No. A blocked person cannot see the blocker’s online status. However, users can also hide online status through Viber privacy controls.

Does Viber notify you when someone blocks you?

No. Viber does not send a direct notification. You can only infer a block from the combination of message, call, status, profile, and group behavior.

What changes if the person unblocks you?

The blocker can remove your number in Settings > Privacy > Block list, select it, and tap Unblock. Future contact can then work normally. Messages sent while you were blocked are not delivered later and do not reappear after unblocking.

How to respond responsibly

  • Make one reasonable observation of each relevant signal instead of sending repeated messages or calls.
  • Do not use alternate accounts, mutual contacts, or new groups to bypass a possible block.
  • Allow for offline periods, disabled online or Seen indicators, and ordinary privacy choices.
  • If the combined pattern indicates that contact is unwanted, respect that boundary.
