If you are watching a YouTube playlist, turn off the player’s Loop control. If OBS is sending local podcast files to YouTube Live, turn off looping on the OBS source instead. The setting belongs to the player that is actually playing the episodes—not to YouTube Live as a whole. First check whether one episode repeats or the entire playlist starts over.
First identify what is repeating
Check two things: what repeats, and where the playback is happening. If one episode starts again, look for a current-video Loop setting. If all episodes play again from the beginning, look for a playlist repeat setting. Then change the control in the relevant YouTube player, embedded player, or OBS source.
| What you see | Where to check |
|---|---|
| One episode starts over | The current-video Loop control in YouTube, or the OBS Media Source’s Loop option. |
| The whole YouTube playlist starts over | The playlist’s Loop or Repeat control. |
| Local episode files repeat in a live stream | The OBS source playing those files: VLC Video Source or Media Source. |
| An embedded playlist repeats | The code controlling the YouTube IFrame Player, including its loop setting. |
Turn off repeat when watching a YouTube playlist
On a computer
- Open a video in the playlist and expand the playlist box.
- Turn off the playlist’s Loop control.
- If just the current episode repeats, open the video player’s context menu and check its separate single-video Loop option.
YouTube treats looping the current video and looping a playlist as separate controls. Turning off one does not necessarily change the other. See YouTube’s computer instructions for looping videos or playlists.
On Android
- Start the playlist and find the Loop control in the playlist box beneath the video.
- Turn playlist looping off. If the control displays a
1, it is set to repeat only the current video; tap until that single-video repeat state is no longer selected.
Use YouTube’s Android instructions if the control is not visible.

On iPhone or iPad
Use the available player and playlist controls to check both repeat scopes: the current episode and the playlist. Stop a YouTube embed from looping
If your playlist plays inside a site or app that uses the YouTube IFrame Player API, check the code that initializes or reuses the player. Set loop to false with setLoop(false). The API documentation says playlists do not loop by default and that this setting makes playback stop after the final playlist video. Because the loop setting persists when a different playlist is loaded into the same player, explicitly set it false if shared code may have enabled it earlier. See the YouTube IFrame Player API reference.
Stop local podcast files from repeating in OBS
If OBS is playing episode files and sending the resulting video to YouTube Live, change the OBS source that owns playback. YouTube’s live-stream settings do not provide a global switch for looping those local files.

- In OBS, locate the Media Source playing the episode.
- Open its Properties and turn off Loop.
- Apply the change and check that the episode stops at its end.

Do not confuse looping with visibility behavior
OBS’s Visibility Behaviour determines whether a source continues, pauses, or stops when it is not visible in the scene. It is separate from Loop Playlist and Loop, so changing visibility behavior is not the fix for a source that restarts after playback ends. OBS explains these options in its Media Sources documentation (dated January 11, 2022).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep the episode order separate from the repeat setting
Changing playlist order determines which episode plays next; it does not turn repeat off. YouTube describes a podcast show as a playlist, with each episode represented by a video. Its guidance is to organize full-length episodes in the order listeners should consume them. In YouTube Studio, edit the podcast’s Default Video Order: use newest to oldest for an episodic show, or oldest to newest for a serial show. Then separately check the player or source repeat setting. See YouTube’s podcast setup guidance.

Troubleshoot if episodes still repeat
- Only one episode repeats: Check the current-video Loop control in YouTube, or the Loop option on that episode’s OBS Media Source.
- The whole playlist starts again: Check YouTube’s playlist Loop control, the OBS VLC Video Source’s Loop Playlist option, or the embed’s API loop state, depending on where playback happens.
- You changed a setting but the result did not change: Make sure you changed the control on the player or source that is actually playing the audio and video. A YouTube playback toggle cannot change an OBS source, and an OBS source option cannot change a playlist being played directly by YouTube.
- The next episode is the wrong one: Adjust the playlist’s order in YouTube Studio; that is separate from repeat behavior.
- OBS pauses or stops when a scene changes: Review Visibility Behaviour. It controls what happens when the source is not visible, not whether the playlist restarts at its end.
If these checks do not match your setup, identify which app or source plays the episodes and whether one item or the whole list repeats; those two details point to the setting to inspect.
