Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To keep an OBS stream on YouTube running around the clock from a Mac, configure YouTube’s encoder stream in OBS, choose settings your Mac and sustained upload connection can handle, keep the Mac powered and awake, then test and monitor the broadcast. OBS can start streaming when it launches, but that alone does not restart OBS after a crash or restore a stream after a power or network outage.
1. Set up the YouTube encoder stream in OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming configuration. The stream key works like a credential: keep it private. YouTube allows a custom stream key to be reused.
- If you think the key has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement. An old key will no longer be the one to use.
Use YouTube’s current stream settings guidance for the exact fields and current interface. Labels can change, so follow the settings shown for your encoder stream.
2. Choose settings the Mac and connection can sustain
There is no universally reliable resolution or bitrate for every Mac and internet connection. Choose based on measured upload capacity, the selected frame rate and resolution, the Mac’s encoding capability, and how complex the OBS scene is. A stream can look fine in a brief test yet fail during a long run if the connection or encoder is pushed too hard.
Set video and encoder options
- Measure the connection’s upload capacity and select a resolution, frame rate and bitrate using YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table. The table distinguishes recommended and minimum H.264 rates by resolution and frame rate; do not apply one bitrate to every format.
- For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube’s guidance calls for CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported. For audio over RTMP/RTMPS, its guidance lists AAC or MP3.
- Test with representative motion and audio. A static image can be less demanding than the actual video or scene you plan to stream.
OBS system requirements are a compatibility baseline, not a guarantee that a particular Mac can stream your chosen output continuously. Encoding method, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity all affect load. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then run a controlled test on the actual Mac and scene. OBS’s system requirements explain the limits of baseline compatibility.

Choose a latency setting for the kind of stream
YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering. For a continuous broadcast that does not depend on real-time audience interaction, a lower-latency mode may bring less benefit than a stable viewing experience. Review the available options in YouTube’s stream settings and choose for your audience and format.
3. Keep the Mac powered and prevent sleep
OBS must remain running and the Mac must stay awake to keep encoding. On a MacBook, connect a compatible power adapter and check the Battery or Options settings for the control that prevents automatic sleep while the display is off. Apple says this option is not available on every configuration, and preventing sleep can increase power use.

- UNLEASH RAW PERFORMANCE MODE 25W - Dominate demanding tasks with the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor. When switched to Performance Mode in the BIOS (press "Esc" key repeatedly during boot, save then exit), this mini PC delivers superior multi-core processing power, significantly outperforming Intel N-series chips in CPU-intensive applications, multitasking, and creative workloads.
- MINI DESKTOP COMPUTER WITH TRIPLE DISPLAY SCREEN - Nucbox G10 integrates AMD Radeon Vega 8 1200 MHz GPU to deliver powerful graphics processing power to easily handle video editing, and playback, or casual gaming. And it can connect to 3 display screens simultaneously via HDMI 2.1 TMDS/ DPv1.4/ TYPE-C.
Turning off the display is not the same as putting the computer to sleep: the display can go dark while the Mac remains awake. Desktop Macs have corresponding energy settings. The exact control names and availability vary by hardware and macOS version; Apple’s guide to preventing a Mac laptop from sleeping describes the relevant setting.
4. Decide whether OBS should launch the stream automatically
OBS documents a --startstreaming launch parameter. On macOS, its documented pattern for passing launch parameters is open -a "OBS" --args; to request streaming at launch, include the parameter after --args, as shown in the OBS launch-parameters reference.

- 6-core Intel Core i5 processor
- Intel UHD Graphics 630
- 8GB 2666MHz DDR4
- Ultrafast SSD storage
- Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, one HDMI 2. 0 port, and two USB 3 ports
This can start a stream when OBS launches. It is not a complete recovery plan: the documented parameter does not establish that OBS will relaunch after a crash, that the Mac will log in after power returns, or that YouTube will resume a lost encoder connection. Treat those as separate failure cases rather than assuming launch automation solves them.
5. Test the broadcast and monitor its health
- Before relying on a long run, test in an appropriate visibility mode and confirm the YouTube preview appears.
- Check audio, picture, motion and stream health in YouTube Studio. Make sure the intended watch page is accessible to the audience you chose.
- Monitor the broadcast after it starts. YouTube advises ongoing checks of audio and video quality; a successful initial preview does not prove an uninterrupted 24/7 run.
- If OBS reports an encoder start error, check that OBS has the correct stream key. If the key was reset or may be compromised, replace it in OBS with the current key.
Use YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance when the encoder will not connect or stream health is poor. If OBS stops, treat it as an incident to diagnose; do not assume it will recover itself.

6. Plan separately for archives and outages
A 24/7 transmission and a retained video archive are different goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. Its guidance does not promise an archive for a stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on one continuous YouTube VOD as the record of a longer broadcast. If an archive matters, verify YouTube’s current limits and consider a separate local recording plan. Confirm that the Mac has adequate storage and can handle recording alongside streaming before depending on it.
Likewise, keeping the Mac awake and using OBS’s launch parameter do not provide internet failover, guaranteed recovery after an outage, or crash supervision. If uninterrupted availability is essential, decide how you will detect a stopped stream and who or what can restore it.
