You can keep a YouTube live stream running without leaving your home computer on by running encoder software on an AWS EC2 instance in the Mumbai region, ap-south-1. The EC2 instance is still a computer—it is simply a remote cloud server. The encoder must read authorized media files or another valid input and send a continuous feed to YouTube; a YouTube playlist URL alone is not an encoder input.
What “playlist livestream” means in this setup
A YouTube playlist page collects watchable videos. A live encoder instead sends a live audio-and-video feed to YouTube. Those are different things, even though YouTube and streaming protocols use the word “playlist” in different contexts. You cannot simply paste a YouTube playlist URL into an encoder and expect it to broadcast those videos continuously.
For a loop, the EC2-hosted encoder needs access to the source video and audio files—or another authorized input—and must play them in sequence while producing one continuous live output. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Its Live API represents encoder settings as a liveStream resource and a live event as a liveBroadcast.

| StreamNeo | Loops uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube without requiring your computer to stay on. | A reader who wants a managed, always-on loop rather than an EC2 server to configure and supervise. It supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot; the first day is free. | YouTube only; it plays uploaded videos and does not broadcast a live camera feed. See StreamNeo for product details. |
| Encoder software on EC2 in Mumbai | Runs an encoder on a cloud VM, reads your authorized media and sends the feed to YouTube. | A technically capable reader who wants control over the server and has defined media, codec, quality and uptime needs. | The right VM size, software setup, operating cost and reliability depend on the workload. The available AWS and YouTube guidance does not establish a universal instance size or tested command sequence. |
| AWS Elemental MediaLive | A managed live video processing service that YouTube lists among verified encoder options. | Production needs that call for a managed broadcast-processing service. | Whether it is a simple or cost-effective fit for a basic file loop is not established here; compare its requirements and current pricing for your workflow. |
| Recurring scheduled broadcasts with reusable stream settings | Uses a reusable YouTube stream configuration for separate scheduled live events. | A channel that wants recurring sessions rather than one indefinite broadcast. | The Google Live API documentation says only one event is live at a time in this pattern; it is not a way to run several simultaneous events through the same workflow. |
The EC2 steps below are for the DIY route. They explain the workflow without prescribing a specific instance size or unverified encoder command: those choices require testing with your actual files, codec, frame rate, target resolution and uptime.

Prepare YouTube and your source media
1. Enable live streaming before the day you need it
Enable live streaming on the channel and allow for activation time. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Confirm that the channel can create a live event before building the rest of the setup around a broadcast date.
2. Create the event and keep its key private
In YouTube Studio or Live Control Room, create or schedule the live event and obtain the stream URL and stream key. Configure your encoder with those values. Treat the key like a password: do not put it in a public script, repository, screenshot or support message. If you believe it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live-stream settings and update the encoder configuration.
3. Check media access and rights
Put the files somewhere the EC2 instance can reliably read them, or make another authorized input available to the encoder. Check that files are complete, playable, in the intended order and available after a restart. Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream, and confirm YouTube’s current rules for the material and broadcast format before going live. Rights to upload a file do not necessarily establish permission to rebroadcast all of its contents as a continuous live stream.

Set up the AWS Mumbai encoder
- Select the region: In the AWS console, choose Asia Pacific (Mumbai), region code
ap-south-1, when launching the EC2 instance. AWS lists general-purpose and compute-optimized EC2 families in this region, but the available guidance does not identify one size that suits every video workflow. - Choose a host only after defining the workload: Decide what resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate you intend to send, and whether the encoder will use software or hardware encoding. Test the selected instance with the intended source media. A CPU-intensive software encode may need a different host than simply reading and forwarding a compatible stream; do not infer capacity from the region alone.
- Install an encoder that can run unattended: Choose software that can read your media, emit a continuous feed and reconnect or restart appropriately. The exact installation steps depend on the Linux image and encoder you select; the cited AWS and YouTube material does not establish a particular image, command or instance size.
- Configure YouTube ingest: Enter the server URL and private stream key from Live Control Room in the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Set the output codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe behavior to values supported by both the selected encoder and YouTube’s current ingest guidance. No universal bitrate or keyframe value is specified for this workflow, so verify the current requirements in Live Control Room and the encoder documentation rather than guessing.
- Start the feed and verify it: Start the encoder, then check the event preview and stream status in Live Control Room. Confirm that video and audio are present and that the event is receiving a stable feed before relying on the loop unattended.
- Keep the service running: Configure process supervision and restart behavior for the chosen operating system and encoder. Monitor the process, media availability and outbound connection; decide how you will respond to an encoder crash, a missing source file or a dropped connection. These are operational safeguards, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
Choose an ingest protocol deliberately
For a basic encoder workflow, use a protocol supported by both the selected encoder and YouTube Live Control Room. RTMP is the familiar option in many encoder workflows; HLS is an alternative with more specific delivery requirements and higher latency because it sends media in segments.
YouTube’s HLS ingest guide specifies segment durations of 1–4 seconds, MPEG-2 TS segments, HTTPS POST/PUT requests, no byte-range mode, and a rolling media playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. Those are HLS delivery instructions, not settings for a YouTube watch-page playlist. Use HLS only if your encoder can meet the documented requirements and the additional latency is acceptable.
Plan for event duration and recovery
One continuous event versus recurring sessions
A single long-running broadcast and a sequence of scheduled broadcasts are different operating plans. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume the same automatic archive behavior for a stream lasting longer than 12 hours based on that guidance. If you need recurring scheduled sessions, Google’s Live API supports reusing a stream configuration across separate broadcast events; its documented pattern allows only one event live at a time.

Make restart and reconnect behavior part of the design
A server being in the cloud does not by itself guarantee that an encoder, input file or network connection will recover. Decide how the process should restart after an error, how it will resume or handle a source-file failure, and how you will notice that YouTube is no longer receiving the stream. Test those cases before treating the setup as unattended.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Estimate the full AWS cost before launch
There is no defensible fixed monthly estimate without assumptions about instance type, region, storage, source-media size, outgoing data transfer, encoding method and operating hours. AWS offers on-demand and commitment pricing models for EC2, but the available information does not establish a current Mumbai price for a suitable instance or the total cost of this workflow.
- Choose a candidate EC2 instance and confirm its current price for
ap-south-1. - Estimate storage for the source files and any other data the workflow needs.
- Estimate outgoing transfer based on the target bitrate and hours streamed.
- Include any additional media services and the number of hours the instance will run.
- Enter those assumptions in the AWS Pricing Calculator and recheck rates when you make the decision.
Compare the complete operating cost—not just the VM rate—with the time and maintenance required to keep the encoder, files and recovery process working. The right choice depends on the channel’s workload and how much server administration you want to own.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that the encoder is running, the event is the intended one, and the configured server URL and stream key match Live Control Room. Verify network access from the instance and inspect the encoder’s connection status.
- The stream stops after a restart: Check whether process supervision actually starts the encoder and whether its configuration, key and source-file paths remain available after the instance reboots.
- The loop cannot find or play a file: Confirm the instance can access the source storage, the path is correct, the file is complete and the encoder supports its format. Test the full playlist order rather than assuming every file will decode.
- The encoder overloads the host: Compare CPU and memory use during the intended encode with the instance capacity. Reduce the encoding workload or test a more suitable instance only after confirming the required resolution, frame rate and codec.
- The stream disconnects or does not recover: Check the encoder’s reconnect behavior, process supervision and monitoring. A recovery plan should identify the failure and restart or reconnect the feed; do not assume that a cloud VM automatically repairs an encoder failure.
- The feed works but the archive is missing: Check the event’s duration against YouTube’s stated automatic-archive behavior. The cited guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not longer broadcasts.
