To keep a YouTube Live real estate tour going after its video ends, keep your encoder sending a feed and make the video source repeat. In OBS, turn on Loop for one tour file, or use a VLC Video playlist with Loop Playlist for several clips. Then monitor the Live Control Room preview and stream health to confirm the broadcast remains active.
Why the stream ends when a tour video finishes
YouTube Live does not keep a broadcast open just because its event is still selected in Studio. The encoder must continue sending content; YouTube’s encoder guidance says to end a stream by stopping content from the encoder (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder). If a file finishes and the encoder stops output, the event can end. Looping the source gives the encoder video to keep sending.
Choose the right looping setup
| Approach | Best for | What to enable | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS Media Source | One tour file | Loop | Simple setup, but the same footage repeats. |
| OBS VLC Video source | A sequence of tour clips | Loop Playlist | Requires VLC to be installed and the playlist configured. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | A production workflow already built around external encoder hardware | Its playback/playlist function and YouTube output | Confirm the specific model can play and loop local files; hardware encoder support alone does not establish that feature. |
OBS documents both looping controls in its Media Sources guide. VLC must be installed for OBS’s VLC Video source to appear; use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
Set up a looping real estate tour in OBS
- Create or select the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or choose the event. Copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. The key tells the encoder where to send the feed, so keep it private. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Add a single tour video. In OBS, add a Media Source, select the tour file, and enable Loop in the source properties. OBS documents Loop as replaying the file after playback completes; its documented default is Off.
- Use a playlist for multiple clips. Install VLC if needed, then add a VLC Video source and populate its playlist with the tour clips in the intended order. Enable Loop Playlist so playback restarts when the list runs out. Check the source’s visibility behavior: OBS documents a default that stops playback when the source is not visible and restarts it when visible.
- Check the scene and audio. Make sure the looping source is present and visible in the active scene. Listen through the point where the file or playlist returns to the beginning; confirm that the transition does not introduce an unwanted pause, abrupt sound, or blank frame.
- Start the encoder and verify the feed. Start streaming from OBS and check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room before confirming or promoting the event. YouTube recommends testing, checking access on channel/watch pages and mobile, and monitoring audio and video continuously (YouTube live streaming tips).
- Leave OBS sending content. Keep OBS and its output running through the file-end transition and for as long as the event should remain live. Do not stop the encoder if you want the YouTube event to stay open.
- End the broadcast deliberately. When the tour is finished, end the stream in Live Control Room and stop the encoder as appropriate.
Use stream settings that suit the feed
Test with the actual tour footage and audio, and watch YouTube’s stream-health messages rather than assuming one bitrate or resolution fits every upload connection. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds; it also recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular setting will work on every connection. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.

Protect the rights in the tour material
Streaming setup does not establish that you have permission to rebroadcast a property tour. Before looping it, confirm that you have the necessary rights for the listing footage, music, voiceover, and any other included material. A video that was permissible to use in one context is not automatically cleared for a continuous live rebroadcast.
Troubleshoot an ended stream or blank playback
- The event ends at the file boundary: Check that Loop is enabled on the actual Media Source, or Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. OBS’s documented default for Media Source Loop is Off.
- The preview goes blank: Confirm the source is visible in the active scene and OBS is still outputting. Review the VLC Video source’s visibility behavior if the source or scene changes.
- The encoder will not connect: Recheck the stream URL and stream key entered in OBS against the values in Live Control Room. YouTube’s typical encoder setup requires both.
- Viewers report audio or video problems: Inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, and review the local recording/archive for problems. YouTube’s live tips recommend ongoing monitoring and checking local archive integrity.
Know what archiving does—and does not—guarantee
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not guarantee uninterrupted delivery or protect an event from a network outage or encoder crash. For a planned broadcast longer than 12 hours, confirm YouTube’s current archive rules rather than assuming the same behavior applies.
