To keep a YouTube gaming rerun live after its playlist ends, make the playlist or media source feeding your encoder repeat. YouTube’s player-loop setting does not loop the creator’s encoder feed. If you do not want a computer to supply that feed continuously, use a hosted playlist-to-live workflow and verify that it repeats at the end of the playlist.
Why the stream stops when the playlist ends
A YouTube live broadcast needs a continuing video feed from its source: usually an encoder running on your computer, or a hosted streaming workflow. If the encoder’s playlist reaches its final item and stops producing video, YouTube does not refill the playlist for it. YouTube’s encoder guidance says, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.”
The fix is therefore at the source: configure its playlist to repeat, or use a workflow that continues to supply the feed. YouTube’s stream lifecycle controls can affect when a broadcast starts or stops, but they do not replenish an empty source playlist.
Do not confuse YouTube’s player loop with a live-source loop
Player loop: repeats playback for a viewer
YouTube’s embedded-player documentation describes looping one video by using loop=1 and setting the playlist parameter to that same video’s ID. That controls playback in the embedded player. It is not a setting for the playlist feeding your encoder and does not ensure that your live broadcast keeps receiving video.

Source loop: repeats the feed sent to YouTube
For a creator-side live stream, the media source or playlist must continue playing into the encoder. Look for a repeat, loop, or playlist-repeat option in the broadcasting software or media source you actually use. The exact controls vary by software; YouTube’s encoder instructions explain how to connect an encoder, not how to configure every third-party source to repeat.
Set up a local rerun loop
- Check the content. Confirm that every intended rerun video is available to your chosen source workflow and that you have the rights needed to broadcast its video and audio. YouTube specifically reminds creators to ensure trailer audio and video do not infringe others’ content; that reminder is not a complete legal analysis.
- Configure the source playlist. In your broadcasting software, find the playlist or media-source repeat control and enable looping. Consult the current documentation for that software if the control is unclear; the steps and labels are not universal.
- Check the end of the playlist. Observe what the source does after its final item. Confirm it starts again and continues sending video to the encoder, rather than stopping, going blank, or leaving a gap that ends the feed.
- Connect the encoder in YouTube Studio. Create or reuse your live stream, then enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. The stream key identifies where the encoder sends its feed and lets YouTube accept it. Keep the key private.
- Review stream lifecycle settings. Check the stream’s auto-start and auto-stop controls in YouTube Studio. These affect stream start and stop behavior; they do not make a finished source playlist repeat.
- Test before scheduling a long rerun. Run the source through its final playlist item and confirm the encoder continues sending content and the YouTube live stream remains active. A short end-of-playlist test can catch a source setting that would otherwise interrupt a longer broadcast.
Use a hosted playlist-to-live workflow instead
A hosted workflow can play a playlist of videos and send it to YouTube without relying on a local computer as the continuously running source. Restream documents a playlist-streaming workflow and an End Stream action. Its documentation alone does not establish that a playlist automatically loops, that a particular plan includes the feature, or that the service guarantees uptime. Before relying on any hosted provider for a long rerun, check its current playlist-end behavior, service limits, uptime terms, and how you control the YouTube destination.

Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it also has automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.

Looping the source and controlling the broadcast lifecycle are separate jobs. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive guidance does not mean an ended or exhausted source will restart automatically, so verify the live feed itself at the playlist boundary.

Troubleshoot a rerun that still ends
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The stream ends at the final playlist item | The source playlist is not set to repeat, or its repeat setting does not apply to that playlist. | Check the source software’s current repeat controls and test the final-item transition again. |
| The playlist repeats locally, but YouTube stops receiving video | The media source may be stopping or going blank during the transition, or the encoder may no longer be sending content. | Observe the source and encoder output at the playlist boundary; confirm the feed continues into the encoder. |
| The broadcast starts or stops at an unexpected time | YouTube auto-start or auto-stop settings may be affecting stream lifecycle behavior. | Review those controls in YouTube Studio. They do not replace source looping. |
| A hosted playlist ends instead of repeating | The service may not loop the playlist automatically, or its behavior may depend on a current feature or plan. | Check the provider’s current documentation and terms, then test the end-of-playlist behavior before depending on it. |
Choose the workflow that fits your setup
| Approach | Where the feed runs | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Local playlist and encoder | Your computer and broadcasting software supply the feed. | That the source repeats after the last item and the encoder continues sending video. |
| Hosted playlist-to-live workflow | A service supplies the playlist feed. | Current looping behavior, limits, uptime terms, and control of the YouTube destination. |
| StreamNeo | Uploaded videos loop from StreamNeo’s cloud to YouTube. | Use the YouTube stream key and confirm the playlist and stream are configured as intended. |
