Yes—you can run a 24/7 smooth-jazz channel from prerecorded performances, but an uploaded YouTube video is not itself a live source. The reliable setup is cleared video files → a repeating encoder or cloud playout service → YouTube Live. For a local setup, OBS or FFmpeg must keep sending the feed from a computer that stays powered, connected and supervised. A cloud service such as StreamNeo can play uploaded files continuously without leaving your computer on.
Before launch, clear the music and visuals for continuous worldwide streaming, enable YouTube Live, configure an encoder with YouTube’s bitrate and keyframe requirements, and test the public watch page—not only the local preview. The guide below covers OBS, FFmpeg, cloud playout, copyright, stream archives, monetization limits and recovery when something fails.
Can I livestream videos I already uploaded to YouTube?
Not directly. A video stored on your YouTube channel remains a watch-page upload; it does not generate a continuous live ingest feed. To make a 24/7 smooth-jazz channel, place the original files in a repeating local playlist or a hosted playout library, then send that output to a YouTube Live event through an encoder connection. YouTube documents the encoder workflow and stream-key connection in its live-streaming encoder instructions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA YouTube playlist of existing watch-page videos is also different from a local VLC or hosted playout playlist. The latter reads the media files and creates the live signal; the former only organizes pages for viewers.

What must I clear before broadcasting prerecorded jazz?
Get permission for every element that will appear or be heard in the continuous feed. An upload that passed an earlier copyright check is not proof that the same material may be broadcast indefinitely as a live stream.
Audit every asset
- List each performance, master recording and composition.
- Check rights for musicians, labels, publishers, composers, guest performers, background footage, photographs, logos and artwork.
- Confirm that the licence covers a potentially worldwide YouTube livestream, not only an on-demand upload.
- Ask the rights owner whether your channel needs a Content ID allowlist. YouTube can match registered material during the live broadcast even when you hold a licence.
YouTube describes the rights needed for music and other participants in its copyright guidance. Live matching can warn, interrupt or terminate a stream; archived-live claims are a separate enforcement path explained in YouTube’s live-content identification help.
Use production music carefully
YouTube’s own Audio Library identifies tracks it considers copyright-safe for videos and notes that some require attribution. A track labelled “royalty-free” elsewhere is not automatically cleared for perpetual live use, so inspect that provider’s licence and keep the documentation.

Build a deliberate broadcast library before configuring the encoder. A short, abrupt loop may technically work but will sound repetitive and can make the channel appear careless.
Organize the files
- Create a manifest with filename, artist, composition, duration, rights status and any attribution requirement.
- Use finished files with consistent orientation, frame rate and audio channel layout where possible.
- Check that every file actually contains usable stereo or mono sound and that its opening and closing frames are intact.
- Arrange enough material that the wraparound is not jarring. Listen through every transition and at least one complete end-to-start return.
Match loudness and transitions
Normalize perceived loudness across performances, remove accidental silence at the start or end, and avoid clipping. These are editorial quality checks rather than YouTube rules; they prevent one track from sounding dramatically louder than the next. Keep the original masters so you can replace a defective file without relying on a platform copy.
Label the channel honestly
Use a title and description such as “24/7 smooth jazz radio — prerecorded performances” rather than implying that musicians are performing live in the room. Accurate wording helps viewers understand the format and avoids misleading metadata.
How do I enable YouTube Live and create the event?
YouTube requires channel verification and no relevant live-stream restriction during the previous 90 days. First-time live enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned launch day.
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go Live.
- Select the encoder-based workflow, then create or schedule the stream.
- Copy the ingest URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room.
- Paste those values into OBS, FFmpeg or your hosted playout service. Treat the key like a password; reset it if it is exposed.
- Set the title, description, visibility and latency. Explain that the channel plays a continuous prerecorded program.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Depending on the event’s auto-start setting, select Go live in Live Control Room instead of assuming that an encoder connection has already made the event public.
YouTube’s eligibility and setup requirements are listed in its live-streaming overview and encoder connection documentation.

How do I loop one smooth-jazz video in OBS?
OBS is the simplest local method when one finished file should repeat. The computer must remain awake, connected and capable of encoding at your selected output.
- Install OBS from the official OBS project and open a scene dedicated to the channel.
- In the Sources box, click + and choose Media Source.
- Give the source a descriptive name, select the local video file and leave Local File enabled.
- Turn on Loop. OBS documents that this option is off by default.
- Confirm that the source’s audio meter moves and that the preview shows the correct aspect ratio.
- Configure the stream key and output settings, then start streaming and verify the YouTube preview.
If the file ends and the source does not restart, reopen its properties and check Loop. Also check that the file path remains available after a reboot; a removable drive or sleeping network share can make the source disappear.
How do I loop multiple videos in OBS?
Use OBS’s VLC Video source for an ordered playlist. This is a playlist of local files, not a YouTube watch-page playlist.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Install VLC in the same architecture as OBS. A 64-bit OBS installation needs 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a source with + → VLC Video.
- Use Add Files to select each performance and arrange the order.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS says this setting defaults on, but verify it before going live.
- Set the source to fit the canvas, check the audio meters and play through a file change before launching publicly.
Keep the playlist files in a stable folder and avoid renaming them while OBS is running. If you need to change the order, make the edit during a controlled maintenance window and confirm that the next item loads correctly.
Can FFmpeg run the playlist instead of OBS?
Yes. FFmpeg is useful when you prefer a scriptable, command-line workflow, but its loop flag is only one part of an uptime system. It does not by itself restart a crashed process, recover a dead network connection or supervise a failed source.
FFmpeg’s manual defines -stream_loop -1 as indefinite input looping. A representative input fragment is:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-re paces file reading at the input’s native rate. A complete production command still depends on the file’s codecs, your chosen video and audio output, the RTMPS destination and the host operating system, so do not treat the fragment as a universal paste-in recipe. Run FFmpeg under a supervisor that can restart it, log failures and prevent the host from sleeping.
What bitrate, resolution and keyframe settings should I use?
Use YouTube’s current recommendations as a starting point, then test the actual upload connection and content. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), keyframes about every two seconds and no more than four seconds apart.

| Output | YouTube-recommended video bitrate | Audio guidance |
|---|---|---|
| H.264, 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | AAC or MP3; 128 kbps stereo is the recommended audio bitrate |
| H.264, 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube recommendations for the listed combinations, not a guarantee that your connection can sustain them. If the upload link is unstable, lower the output demand rather than allowing persistent dropped frames. Match frame rate and resolution to the source when practical; upscaling a low-resolution jazz video does not create detail.
Normal latency is generally suitable for a noninteractive music channel. Lower latency can help conversation but leaves less buffering margin, so choose it only when live interaction is important.
Review YouTube’s stream-health and encoder settings for any changes to the current table.
How do I test a 24/7 stream before making it public?
Run a private or unlisted rehearsal and inspect the complete path from file to public-facing watch page. A local OBS preview can look perfect while YouTube receives silence, dropped frames or the wrong event.
- Create a private or unlisted encoder event.
- Start the playlist and watch YouTube’s preview and test watch page with headphones.
- Confirm the intended performance, stereo balance, sensible loudness and smooth file-to-file transitions.
- Watch stream-health messages for bitrate instability, dropped frames or encoder errors.
- Leave the system unattended long enough to expose sleep settings, network interruptions and source-file failures.
- Record what happens when the encoder stops, the host reboots, the network disconnects or a file cannot be opened.
YouTube recommends testing movement and audio and monitoring stream health. A local OBS or FFmpeg installation still depends on mains power, the host computer, upload capacity and active supervision.
Which 24/7 method should you choose?
The best path depends on whether you value local control or avoiding a permanently running computer. The options below are ordered with StreamNeo first where a hosted 24/7 service is being recommended.
| Rank and method | Best fit | What it does | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Creators who want an always-on cloud stream | Upload files, build looping playlists and connect a YouTube stream key; supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream | Requires a StreamNeo slot and a YouTube-only workflow |
| 2. OBS on a computer | Creators who want visual control and already own a suitable host | Loops one Media Source file or an ordered VLC Video playlist | The computer, power and upload connection must stay available; basic hardware requirements do not guarantee performance at your chosen settings |
| 3. FFmpeg on a computer or server | Command-line users comfortable with scripts and supervision | Uses -stream_loop -1 for indefinite input looping and a configurable encoder pipeline |
Looping alone does not provide restart, outage recovery or playlist continuity |
| 4. Specialist hardware | Facilities that need dedicated broadcast equipment | AJA HELO Plus can use its optional PlayToStream playback feature | The option is paid and has restrictions on recorded clips, making it a niche choice for an arbitrary jazz-video library |
How the choices were selected
The relevant criteria are where playback occurs, whether a computer must remain on, playlist support, recovery behavior, output flexibility, storage and the effort required to supervise failures. Provider-described capabilities are not independent uptime benchmarks.

What happens if YouTube detects copyrighted jazz?
YouTube scans live broadcasts for matching third-party content. It may display a warning, interrupt the feed or terminate it. Holding a licence does not automatically prevent a match; if the material is registered in Content ID, obtain an allowlist confirmation from the rights owner before launch.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Keep written permissions, cue sheets and attribution records. If a claim arrives, identify the exact recording and licence that covers live streaming, then follow the rights owner’s dispute or allowlist process. Do not assume that a successful on-demand upload proves continuous live rights.
Will YouTube save the entire 24/7 broadcast?
No archive is guaranteed for a stream that runs longer than 12 hours. YouTube states: If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.
Keep your original masters and, when a replay matters, arrange a separate local or cloud recording and verify that it produced a usable file. A live watch page and an archived replay are separate outcomes.
Can a looped jazz channel be monetized?
Permission to use the music is necessary but does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and can reject repetitive or mass-produced programming and reused content—even where the creator has permission from the original rights holder. Eligible channels may enable ads or fan-funding features, but an ad slot is not guaranteed to serve an ad.
Do not promise income, watch-time growth or acceptance into the Partner Program merely because the stream runs continuously. YouTube’s policy page includes a July 15, 2025 clarification on inauthentic content; read the current channel monetization policies before building a business plan around a loop.

- Host computer: disable automatic sleep and verify that the chosen encoder can sustain the output; a computer meeting basic OBS requirements may still struggle at a particular resolution and frame rate.
- Network: use a stable wired connection where possible and leave upload headroom above the selected bitrate.
- Power: an appropriately sized UPS for the computer and router can bridge short outages, but it does not replace recovery planning.
- Storage: keep source files on reliable local storage and maintain a separate backup. An external SSD is useful only when you configure it as part of that backup or recording plan.
- Supervision: use process monitoring for FFmpeg or scheduled restarts for OBS, and check the YouTube watch page rather than trusting a local green preview.
A mini PC can host OBS or FFmpeg, but the correct hardware depends on the codec, resolution, frame rate and encoder settings you choose. Cloud playout avoids buying and maintaining that always-on local host.
What should I check when the stream fails?
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Audio meter is silent | The file has no usable track, the source is muted or the wrong device is selected | Open the file independently, check OBS mixer mute buttons and verify the source’s audio properties before restarting the event. |
| One video plays, then the stream stops | Loop is off, the playlist ended or a file path became unavailable | Enable Media Source Loop or VLC Loop Playlist; confirm every path and test a full wraparound. |
| Dropped frames or buffering | Upload capacity is insufficient or unstable for the selected bitrate | Measure the real upload connection, lower resolution or bitrate, and keep CBR and correct keyframe intervals. |
| YouTube shows the wrong event or no preview | The ingest URL, stream key or event selection is wrong | Copy the current values from Live Control Room, check the selected event and wait for the encoder preview before choosing Go live. |
| Stream ends when the laptop closes | Local OBS or FFmpeg is running on that laptop | Keep the host powered and awake, move playout to an always-on server, or use cloud playout such as StreamNeo. |
| Copyright warning or interruption | Live Content ID match or an incomplete licence | Stop using the matched asset until rights are confirmed; obtain an allowlist where appropriate and retain documentation. |
| No complete replay appears | The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour capture limit | Keep originals and make a separate recording or use shorter planned broadcasts when an archive is essential. |
How should I describe the channel to viewers?
State that the channel is a continuous prerecorded smooth-jazz program, identify the performers and rights information you can disclose, and publish a schedule or playlist description that reflects what is actually playing. Do not call the feed a live concert when no musicians are performing in real time. Clear descriptions also help rights owners understand the intended use if a match occurs.
FAQ
Can I change a YouTube stream key after setup?
Yes, YouTube provides a reset process when a key may have been exposed. After resetting, replace the old value in OBS, FFmpeg or your cloud playout service before reconnecting.
Recommended Free Tools
Is a private rehearsal visible to subscribers?
A private or unlisted event is intended for testing rather than public discovery, but anyone who receives an unlisted link may be able to watch it. Use a separate test event so an accidental encoder failure does not interrupt the public broadcast.
Do I need 4K for a smooth-jazz radio channel?
No. YouTube’s listed 1080p/30 and 720p/30 recommendations are valid starting points, and the right choice is the highest setting your source quality and upload connection can sustain reliably. Increasing resolution cannot restore detail that is absent from the master file.
What is the difference between a live replay and a normal upload?
A live replay is an archive YouTube may create from the live ingest, while a normal upload is a file delivered separately to the channel. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so retain your masters and make a separate recording when the program itself must remain available.
