You can join a Google Meet on a computer without installing the Meet app: open the invitation link in a supported browser, or go to meet.google.com and enter the meeting code. You may join without a Google Account, but a guest might need to give a name and wait for the organizer or someone in the meeting to admit them.

Join Google Meet in a computer browser

Google says Meet works in supported desktop browsers without a plugin or separate installed software. Its supported browsers include current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. Google recommends keeping your browser current; its operating-system support covers the current and two previous major releases of listed desktop systems, including Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Ubuntu or other Debian-based Linux distributions. See Google’s device and browser requirements.

  1. Open the meeting invitation and select its Meet link. If you have a meeting code instead, go to meet.google.com, enter the code, and select Join.
  2. Review the camera and microphone preview. Allow browser access to those devices if prompted.
  3. If you are signed in, select Join now. To enter without a Google Account, type the name you want displayed and select Ask to join.
  4. If Meet asks for approval, wait for the organizer or another participant to admit you.

Can you join without a Google Account?

Often, yes. An unsigned-in guest can request to join, but access is not automatic: the meeting’s access settings, organization policies, and account type can affect who is admitted. If you see a waiting screen, contact the organizer or a participant and ask them to let you in. Google’s computer joining instructions describe the guest admission process.

Can you join without the app on a phone?

Google recommends using the Meet app on mobile, so do not assume a phone browser will provide the full video-meeting experience. If the invitation includes a dial-in number and PIN, you may be able to join by phone audio instead. Dial-in is available only when the meeting is organized by a Google Workspace user and the administrator has enabled it; your carrier may charge for the call. Check the invitation for the number and PIN, and see Google’s joining instructions for details.

Fix common browser-joining problems

  • The browser will not join or behaves unexpectedly: update it to its latest version, then try the meeting link again. Google’s Meet troubleshooting guide covers joining problems.
  • You cannot use your camera or microphone: allow meet.google.com to access them in the browser’s site permissions. If you previously blocked access, change the permission and exit and re-enter the meeting if it does not reconnect. See Google’s requirements and permission guidance.
  • Meet is unavailable through a work or school account: your organization may have turned it off. Contact its administrator.
  • You cannot find the meeting on the Meet homepage: check the Calendar event or invitation link. Google says the Meet homepage lists meetings scheduled through Google Calendar, not every meeting.
  • You are waiting to be let in: ask the organizer or a participant to admit you; browser or account changes will not bypass meeting admission settings.
