The invitation workflow is free and documented for mobile streaming; you do not need a separate guest-streaming service.
What you need before inviting a guest
- A YouTube channel that is eligible to livestream: it must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- The host and guest need access to mobile devices for the documented Go Live Together workflow. YouTube says a host can schedule the stream from a computer, but must go live from a mobile phone.
- The guest must have a YouTube channel. YouTube’s instructions say, “You can invite anyone that has a YouTube channel to co-stream with you.”
YouTube currently says creators must be at least 16 years old to livestream. Check your channel’s eligibility before scheduling, since restrictions can prevent a broadcast from starting. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Invite a guest and start the livestream on mobile
- On the host’s mobile device, tap Create, then Live.
- Open Edit to choose the video and broadcast settings.
- Turn on Go live together, enter the stream details, and tap Next.
- Under Invite a co-streamer, copy the invitation link or choose a messaging option to send it to the guest.
- Ask the guest to open the link on a mobile device. They will be directed to the waiting room, where they can check their audio and video.
- When ready, the host taps Go live. When the guest appears in the waiting room, select Add, then confirm Go live to bring them into the broadcast.
The guest will see an indication when they are live. YouTube’s full Go Live Together instructions cover the invitation controls.
Schedule the stream from a computer
If you want to arrange the broadcast in advance, the host can schedule a guest stream from a computer using YouTube’s Live Control Room. The documented workflow still requires the host to go live from a mobile phone. For a quick, unscheduled broadcast, start directly on mobile using the steps above.

What hosts and guests should know
- Only one guest appears at a time. The host can invite different guests over the course of a stream, but only one is shown alongside the host at once.
- The layout is designed for a vertical feed by default. The host’s video appears alongside the guest’s feed.
- Analytics are for the host. The host can view stream analytics in YouTube Studio; the guest cannot.
- The host is responsible for the broadcast. YouTube holds the host responsible for stream content and for ensuring guests follow Community Guidelines, copyright rules, and other applicable policies. The host has moderation controls and can remove a co-streamer.
Fix invitation and eligibility problems
The guest’s invitation link will not open
If the link does not open properly from a messaging app, send it by email or text instead. If an old invitation should no longer be usable, reset the link in the co-streamer invitation controls and send the guest a new one.
The guest cannot join or the stream will not start
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions from the past 90 days, and confirm the creator meets YouTube’s current age requirement. Also make sure the guest opens the invitation on a mobile device, as that is the documented guest workflow.

You are looking for desktop webcam controls
YouTube’s standard webcam instructions describe selecting a webcam and microphone in Live Control Room. They do not document those desktop webcam controls as a way to invite a Go Live Together guest. See the separate webcam livestream instructions.
Do you need extra equipment?
No special equipment is required to send or accept an invitation. The guest should check audio and video in the waiting room. A smartphone-compatible lavalier microphone is an optional audio upgrade, not a prerequisite; confirm that any microphone connects to the guest’s particular phone.
