Choose the workflow that matches what you want; they use different settings. The steps below are for Streamlabs Desktop unless noted.
Choose the Discord–Streamlabs workflow you need
- Streamlabs to Discord: Link Discord to Streamlabs to post a stream announcement in a server.
- Streamlabs video to a Discord call: Start Streamlabs Desktop’s Virtual Camera and choose it as the call’s camera.
- Discord audio to your Streamlabs broadcast: Select whether to capture Discord audio, keep it out, or route it separately.
These are separate configurations, not one switch that connects every part of Discord and Streamlabs.
Link Discord for a Streamlabs announcement
Streamlabs’ Discord Integration guide describes linking a Discord server and manually posting an announcement. The guide was published in 2018 and last updated in 2021, so first confirm that Discord is still available on your Streamlabs account’s integrations page.
- Open the Streamlabs dashboard and go to its integrations page.
- Find Discord and select Link.
- In the authorization window, select the Discord server you want to connect and complete any verification step shown.
- Configure the announcement message and channel in the Streamlabs dashboard or in the Streamlabels application’s Live Actions tab.
- When you are live, click the Announce button to post. The guide describes this as a manual action, not an automatic announcement trigger. Allow up to five minutes for a post to appear.
The guide says the bot may appear offline except when it needs to post. If Discord is missing from your integrations page or the documented controls differ, treat the current account interface as authoritative rather than assuming the older guide’s steps are still available.

Show Streamlabs video in a Discord call
Use Streamlabs Desktop’s Virtual Camera if you want people in a Discord call to see your Streamlabs scene, including its webcam, overlays, or alerts. Streamlabs’ Discord streaming guide was last updated October 8, 2025.
- Open Streamlabs Desktop settings and install and start Virtual Camera.
- Join or start a Discord call.
- In the call’s camera selection, choose Streamlabs Desktop Virtual Camera.
This camera path sends video; it does not send desktop audio to the call. If you also need audio from your computer in Discord, the guide describes using a separate routing program such as VoiceMeeter Banana. That is one documented approach, not a requirement for every audio-routing setup.

When Discord’s own screen share is enough
If you only need to show an application or screen and do not need Streamlabs scenes, webcam, overlays, or alerts, Discord’s native screen share is the simpler option described by Streamlabs. Share a specific application instead of the entire screen when you want to reduce the chance of exposing private windows or notifications.
Choose whether Discord voices reach your Streamlabs broadcast
For Streamlabs Desktop, the key choice is whether to capture all desktop sound or only selected applications. Streamlabs’ audio guide frames the goal as hearing friends or moderators in Discord without your stream hearing them.

Capture Discord audio in the broadcast
- In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Application Audio Capture source and select Discord as the application to capture.
- Check Settings > Audio. Disable Desktop Audio if you do not want all computer audio captured as well; otherwise Discord or other desktop sounds may be included in addition to the selected source.
- If alerts should remain audible to viewers while using selected application audio, set the alert sources to Monitor and Output.
Hear Discord locally, but keep it out of the broadcast
- Set up selected application capture for the other audio you want in the broadcast.
- In Discord, open User Settings > Voice & Video and set the output device to the headset or speakers that are not being captured by Streamlabs.
- In Streamlabs Desktop, disable Desktop Audio under Settings > Audio so Discord is not included through the all-desktop audio source.
Check your routing with a short test recording or private stream before relying on it live. If Discord voices echo, Streamlabs’ guide advises disabling Desktop Audio; capturing the same sound through both an application source and desktop audio can duplicate it.
Use different audio sources for a stream and a recording
For selective recordings, enable Selective Recording and choose for each source whether it belongs in the stream, the recording, or both. This lets you make a recording with a different set of sources from the live broadcast.

Streamlabs Desktop and the OBS plugin are different interfaces
The Virtual Camera and Application Audio Capture steps above are specifically for Streamlabs Desktop. Streamlabs also has a separate Plugin for OBS Studio, whose guide was last updated September 28, 2026 and lists OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later as a requirement. It describes Streamlabs overlays, alerts, widgets, tipping, Stream Labels, and Cloudbot inside OBS; it does not establish that Discord controls match Streamlabs Desktop’s. Do not assume the same menu names or workflow in the plugin.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is specifically to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running 24/7, that is separate from linking Discord or routing Discord audio. StreamNeo runs uploaded videos or playlists from the cloud: upload a recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.
