Amazon Fire tablets use the Amazon Appstore instead of Google Play. You can add Play Store by installing four compatible Google APK files, but the files must match your tablet’s generation, Fire OS version, and processor architecture.
Before starting, connect to Wi‑Fi, charge the tablet, and remove the microSD card if one is installed. The installation is reversible, but Google-dependent apps may still fail later because a Fire tablet is not automatically converted into a Google-certified Android device.
Check your Fire tablet before downloading anything
- Open Settings.
- Tap Device Options.
- Tap About Fire Tablet.
- Record the exact model, generation, and Fire OS version.
“Fire 7,” “Fire HD 8,” and “Fire HD 10” are not specific enough by themselves. Amazon has reused these names across multiple generations, and the correct APK architecture can differ between models.
Fire OS 5 and 6 use older Android bases, Fire OS 7 is based on Android 9, and Fire OS 8 is based on Android 11. Use that information as a compatibility guide—not as a reason to install any APK with a similar number.

What you need to install
The standard setup uses these four packages, installed in the order shown:

Download the files from a reputable APK archive such as APKMirror. Avoid modified, “premium,” or repackaged APKs. Check each download page for the package name, minimum Android version, CPU architecture, and build information.
Choose the correct APK variants
Match every file to all of the following:
- Your exact Fire tablet model and generation
- Your Fire OS and underlying Android version
- Your tablet’s CPU ABI, such as ARM/32-bit or ARM64/64-bit
- The APK’s stated Android-version requirement
Do not simply choose the newest download. A newer Google Play Services build may require a newer Android base or a different architecture. That can cause App not installed, crashes, sign-in problems, or downloads stuck at Pending. Google Play Services has the most confusing variants and is the package most likely to expose a compatibility mistake.
Allow APK installation on Fire OS
Fire OS handles this permission differently depending on the tablet’s generation.

Newer Fire OS versions
- Open Settings.
- Open Security & Privacy or the similarly named security section.
- Tap Install unknown apps.
- Select the app that will open the APK—usually Silk Browser or Files.
- Enable Allow from this source.
Older Fire OS versions
The path may appear as Settings → Security & Privacy → Apps from Unknown Sources → Silk Browser → Allow from this source.
There is not always one universal “Unknown Sources” switch. If Silk downloads the APK but Files opens it, give permission to Files. The permission must belong to the application actually launching the installer.
Install Google Play Store
- Open Silk Browser and download the four compatible APK files.
- Open Files.
- Tap Downloads.
- Open the Google Account Manager APK first.
- Tap Install, then tap Done.
- Repeat for Google Services Framework.
- Install Google Play Services third.
- Install Google Play Store last.
Downloaded files may be listed in completion order, not installation order. Identify each file carefully before opening it. After every installation, select Done, not Open. Do not launch a Google component until all four packages have been installed.
If Fire OS says the file cannot be opened or blocks the installation, return to the per-app Install unknown apps setting and grant permission to the app opening the file.

Restart and sign in
- Hold the tablet’s power button.
- Choose Restart.
- After the tablet starts, open the app listed as Play Store.
- Sign in with your Google account.
The first launch may take about 60 seconds while Google Services Framework registers components. Do not assume the installation failed immediately if Play Store takes a while to appear or load.
Fix common installation problems
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |

| App not installed | Wrong Android requirement, architecture, APK variant, or an existing conflicting package | Recheck the model, generation, Fire OS version, and ARM versus ARM64 selection. Try the compatible variant rather than the newest one. |
| APK will not open | The browser or file manager lacks installation permission | Enable Allow from this source for the app opening the APK, then retry. |
| Play Store opens and immediately crashes | Google Play Services is mismatched | Replace Google Play Services with a build matching the tablet’s Android base and architecture. Reinstall the four packages in the documented order if necessary. |
| Checking info hangs or sign-in loops | Google components have not registered correctly | Restart the tablet. If the problem continues, remove and add the Google account again under Settings → Accounts. |
| Downloads remain at Pending | Network, date/time, cache, or Google service data problem | Check Wi‑Fi and automatic date/time. Then open Settings → Apps & Notifications or App management, select Google Play Store, choose Storage, and use Clear Cache followed by Clear Data. Repeat for Google Play Services and, if needed, Google Services Framework. |
If all four components appear installed but Play Store still fails, verify that the packages are the expected ones: com.google.android.gsf.login, com.google.android.gsf, com.google.android.gms, and com.android.vending.
What Play Store installation does not fix
Sideloading Play Store does not make a Fire tablet an officially Google-certified Android device. Some banking, streaming, enterprise, and school-managed apps may refuse to install or may not work because they check Google certification, Play Integrity, DRM, or other services that Fire OS does not provide in the same way as standard Android.
A later Fire OS update can also disrupt a previously working setup. If that happens, recheck the Android base, architecture, and compatibility of Google Play Services and Play Store rather than installing random newer versions.

Remove Google Play later
You normally do not need a factory reset to remove the installation. Open Settings → Apps or Apps & Notifications → App management, select the Google components, and use Uninstall where available. Some system-related components may offer only Disable or Uninstall updates. Use a factory reset only as a last resort, since it erases the tablet’s data.

Does every Amazon Fire tablet support Google Play Store?
Most Fire tablets can run a sideloaded Play Store setup, but compatibility depends on the model, generation, Fire OS version, Android base, and CPU architecture. Some apps may still be unsupported even after Play Store works.
Do I need a computer or command-line tools?
No. The standard procedure uses Silk Browser, Files, APK installation prompts, and the tablet’s Restart option. A computer is not required.
Why is Google Play Services the hardest APK to choose?
It has many Android-version and architecture variants. Selecting a build for the wrong Android base or ARM/ARM64 ABI commonly causes installation failures, crashes, or sign-in problems.

Can I install the four APKs in any order?
Use the documented order: Google Account Manager, Google Services Framework, Google Play Services, then Google Play Store. Tap Done after each installation and restart only after the fourth package is installed.
Will installing Play Store void my Fire tablet’s warranty?
Sideloading APKs normally does not require rooting the tablet, but it is still an unsupported software modification. Keep backups and understand that an Amazon update may break the setup.
Can I get Google Play Store back after removing it?
Yes. Reinstall the four compatible packages in the required order. A factory reset is generally unnecessary for removing or reinstalling them.
