There is no Microsoft-supported procedure for installing Google Play Store in Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), and WSA is no longer available through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft says WSA and the Amazon Appstore stopped being available there on March 5, 2025. If WSA is already installed on your PC, you can review its settings, but that does not add Google Play Store or make a modified build official.
Third-party modified WSA builds are unofficial; Microsoft’s cited materials do not validate them or promise that they will work. If you need to run Android apps, investigate current alternatives using the provider’s documentation and check compatibility for the specific apps you need.
What happened to WSA and the Google Play Store method?
WSA was a Windows component for running Android apps, including apps delivered through the Amazon Appstore. It was not an official Google Play Store installer. The Microsoft sources reviewed do not document a supported procedure for adding Google Play Store to WSA.
Microsoft says WSA and the Amazon Appstore have not been available in the Microsoft Store since March 5, 2025. Microsoft’s WSA repository is archived. Consequently, there is no current Microsoft Store setup sequence for installing WSA and then adding Google Play Store.

Community-modified WSA builds are separate from Microsoft’s original software. Treat them as unofficial: the cited Microsoft sources do not certify third-party downloads, verify their integrity, or promise Google Play login compatibility. Avoid rehosted binaries and do not assume a guide or script will work with your Windows installation.
If WSA is already installed
Microsoft’s settings guidance is for people who already have WSA. You can open the subsystem from the Start menu, if it is present, and review its available settings. Those settings manage WSA; they do not install Google Play Store.

Microsoft also says users can choose whether to allow collection of WSA crash, performance, and app-usage data, either during setup or later in WSA Settings. This describes Microsoft’s subsystem and is not an audit of modified distributions.
Amazon said in its March 5, 2024 announcement that previously installed Amazon Appstore apps could continue to be used and receive updates during the transition to the announced end of support. That announcement does not establish the present reliability of any particular legacy installation.

How to assess alternatives for running Android apps
The research available for this guide does not establish a currently maintained emulator as the best Google Play alternative. Before choosing one, compare the provider’s current official documentation against your needs:
- Whether the software is currently supported and updated.
- Which Windows versions it supports.
- Whether Google Play is included, and under what terms.
- Whether the particular apps you need are compatible.
- How it handles accounts and privacy.
- Its performance and hardware requirements.
Do not treat an emulator as a Google Play solution unless its current vendor documentation confirms the relevant support. Avoid downloads from unfamiliar sites and modified packages presented as official Microsoft or Google installers.
