This installs Google’s Progressive Web App (PWA), not a traditional Windows desktop program; you can also use Meet directly in a supported browser without installing it.
The Meet PWA has the same features as Google Meet and updates when Chrome updates. Chrome must be open to install and use the PWA, but it does not need to be your default browser.
What you need before installing Google Meet
- A Windows 10 computer with Google Chrome version 73 or later.
- An internet connection.
These are installation basics. To participate in meetings, Google also lists a Google Account, supported browser and operating system, broadband internet, and a camera among its requirements. An organization-managed account may need an administrator to enable Meet.
Install the Google Meet PWA with Chrome
- Open Google Chrome. If needed, confirm that it is version 73 or later.
- Go to meet.google.com.
- Select the Install control in Chrome’s address bar.
- Open Meet from its app entry in your computer’s app dock or app list.
Google describes this as the Google Meet Progressive Web App. It has the same features as Meet and receives updates when Chrome updates.

If the Install control is missing
First confirm that you opened meet.google.com in Chrome and that Chrome is version 73 or later. Google’s installation instructions identify the address-bar Install control but do not provide a definitive cause for every case where it is absent. Browser controls may vary in appearance.
If you cannot install the PWA, you can still open Meet at meet.google.com in a supported browser. For a work or school account, an administrator may need to enable Meet access.

Google Meet PWA or browser page: which should you use?

Do you need to download Google Meet for Windows 10?
No separate traditional Windows installer is needed for the documented computer app. Use Meet in a supported browser or install the official PWA through Chrome. Avoid third-party download pages offering an unofficial Google Meet Windows executable.

Is there an official Google Meet desktop app for Windows 10?

Does Chrome have to be my default browser?
