Brave Origin on a GrapheneOS phone is enabled inside the regular Brave Browser app; it is not a separate Android app or APK. Install or update Brave to version 1.91 or later, then open ⋮ > All Settings > General > Brave Origin. If prompted, buy the upgrade through the Play Store, restart Brave, and return to the Origin panel.
Before you start
- Install Brave Browser from Google Play or Brave’s official F-Droid repository. Brave documents both as Android distribution options (Brave’s Android download options; official F-Droid repository).
- Update Brave to version 1.91 or later. Brave’s help article, updated September 8, 2026, lists that as the Android requirement for Origin (Brave Origin help).
- For the documented purchase flow, have access to the Play Store. Brave describes Android Origin as a one-time purchase, but the current price should be checked in the live listing rather than inferred from older announcements.
Enable Brave Origin in Brave
- Open Brave Browser on your GrapheneOS phone.
- Tap ⋮ > All Settings > General > Brave Origin.
- If you have not purchased Origin, tap Buy now and complete the purchase in the Play Store.
- Restart Brave after purchase, then reopen the Brave Origin panel.
Brave describes Origin as “A minimalist browser that lets you manage (or totally remove) features found in the free version of Brave.” Its Android implementation is an upgrade within Brave Browser, unlike the standalone Origin downloads documented for desktop (Brave Origin product page; Brave Origin launch article).
Keep Brave Origin updated
There is no separate Android Origin updater documented by Brave. Update the Brave Browser app through the same channel used to install it:
- Google Play: install Brave from Google Play and use the store’s app update mechanism.
- Brave’s F-Droid repository: Brave says these builds use the same source code as the Play version and receive automatic updates through the repository (Brave Android distribution information; official F-Droid repository).
Keep the purchase confirmation for reference. Brave’s cited instructions describe the purchase via Play Store but do not explain whether Origin purchase verification behaves identically for an F-Droid-installed copy, so do not assume that channel combination is supported without checking with Brave.

Do not confuse Origin setup with installing GrapheneOS
GrapheneOS’s WebUSB page discusses using a computer browser to install the operating system. Its note that Brave Shields must be disabled applies to that WebUSB installation workflow because Shields restrict storage usage; it is not part of enabling Brave Origin on an already-running GrapheneOS phone (GrapheneOS WebUSB installation instructions). For Origin, follow Brave’s in-app settings and purchase steps instead.

If Brave Origin does not appear
- Check that Brave is version 1.91 or later; that is Brave’s stated Android threshold.
- Confirm that you opened All Settings > General, not a separate Origin app or APK.
- If you purchased Origin, restart Brave and return to its Origin panel as Brave instructs.
- If the app came from F-Droid and the purchase or entitlement is not recognized, consult Brave support; the cited documentation does not establish that Play Store licensing verification works the same way for F-Droid installs.
