You can’t install a supported Windows version of Apple GarageBand. Apple’s GarageBand support pages provide guides for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, and its cited software license describes the macOS software running on an Apple-branded computer. If you need GarageBand itself, use one of those Apple platforms; if you want to make music on a Windows PC, choose a Windows-compatible music-production app instead.
Is GarageBand available for Windows?
Apple’s GarageBand Support hub directs users to guides for Mac, iPad, and iPhone; it does not provide a Windows download route. Apple’s GarageBand software license describes the software as running on an Apple-branded computer with macOS. The official materials cited here therefore do not establish a supported Windows installer or a Windows use license.
That means there is no official Windows setup procedure to follow. Treat a file labeled “GarageBand for Windows” cautiously: Apple’s cited pages do not identify it as an official installer. This is not a claim that every such file is malicious; it is a reason not to trust the label as proof that the download is genuine or supported.
If you specifically need GarageBand
Use a Mac, iPad, or iPhone and follow the guide for that device from Apple’s GarageBand Support hub. Apple’s Mac guide describes features such as instruments, loops, recording, effects, mixing, and sharing; the available feature set depends on the platform. The Mac guide surfaced as version 10.4.14, but that does not establish the current minimum operating-system version or download size for every device.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Windows alternatives for making music
Two official Windows options are LMMS and Ableton Live 12. They are separate products, not Windows editions of GarageBand, and the available sources do not establish that either matches GarageBand feature for feature.
| Option | Windows support | Requirements or notes |
|---|---|---|
| LMMS | Windows 10 or 11 on x86-64; Windows 11 on ARM | The official download page lists these Windows builds. The cited page does not state comparable system requirements here. |
| Ableton Live 12 | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11 version 22H2 or later | Ableton lists 8 GB RAM, a supported 5th-generation Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen processor with AVX2, a 1366×768 display, and about 6 GB of space for the basic install. ASIO-compatible audio hardware is recommended for optimal audio performance. |
LMMS
To get LMMS, use the project’s official download page and select the build that matches your Windows architecture. Check the page before downloading in case platform availability has changed. LMMS is a Windows music-production option; it is not an Apple product or a GarageBand installer.

Start with the work you actually want to do rather than assuming any one Windows application is a direct GarageBand replacement. Apple describes GarageBand for Mac as including a sound library, instruments, guitar and voice presets, session drummers and percussionists, recording, loops, effects, mixing, and sharing. Compare the Windows app’s current documentation against the tasks you need.
