Uninstalling an Xbox game normally removes its installed game files, not its saved progress. To protect that progress, connect to the internet and let the game sync before uninstalling; when you reinstall, sign in with the same Xbox profile. Do not choose Delete everywhere unless you intend to erase the save from the console and cloud.
If I uninstall a game on Xbox, will I lose my saved data?
Uninstalling a game and deleting its saved data are separate actions in the publisher support instructions reviewed here. Bethesda says game saves are stored on the console and in the cloud, and warns players not to delete cloud saves during uninstall or reinstall troubleshooting. That is not a guarantee for every game or an offline or unsynced save: if the latest progress has not reached the cloud, removing the only local copy could put it at risk. Microsoft’s Xbox console certification requirements say saved progress must be associated with a user profile and roam between supported like devices when the user is signed into Xbox services. This describes expected platform behavior, not proof that a particular game’s save has synced successfully. Use the Xbox profile associated with the progress when you play again. Before uninstalling: let the save sync
- Connect the Xbox to the internet and launch the game you plan to remove.
- Wait for any visible save-sync process to finish. Bethesda advises being online and ensuring saves are synced before deleting a local save copy; it does not specify a universal wait time.
- Uninstall the game without selecting a separate saved-data deletion option. If you cannot confirm synchronization, do not remove the local save copy.
How to uninstall a game on Xbox
- Open My games & apps, choose See all, then Games.
- Highlight the game and open its menu or management options.

Check the confirmation screen carefully. Removing the game is different from removing its saved data, and you do not need to delete saves just to uninstall the game.

How do I reinstall an Xbox game without losing progress?
- Open My games & apps and locate the game in your library. ESO support documents the route Full library > All owned games. Menu wording may change with Xbox updates.
- Select the game to install, or reinstall it from its disc if applicable. Bethesda lists the library or disc as reinstall options. Bethesda Support: Xbox Series X|S troubleshooting
- Once installed, connect to the internet and launch the game while signed into the Xbox profile associated with the save. For supported titles, the cloud save can sync back when the game is loaded online.
Which Xbox save-data option deletes the cloud save?
Delete everywhere is the destructive choice: ESO support says it removes saved data from the current console, the cloud, and other consoles you play on. Do not use it as a routine step when reinstalling a game.

If progress is missing after reinstalling
- Confirm you are signed into the Xbox profile that made the progress; saves are associated with a user profile.
- Connect to Xbox services and launch the game to allow a supported cloud save to roam back to the console.
- Do not select Delete everywhere while trying to recover progress. That option removes the cloud copy as well as console copies.
- If you previously deleted the local copy, cloud recovery depends on a synced cloud save being present. The support instructions cited above do not establish a universal recovery method for a save that never synchronized.
