MaPC is a native Mac public-beta application that installs and launches Windows versions of games from Steam, Epic Games and GOG on Apple Silicon Macs. The supported baseline is an M1-or-newer Mac running macOS 15 or later, with Rosetta 2 installed and approximately 30 GB of free storage. The app is free, but compatibility remains title-specific: DirectX 9/10/11 games are handled automatically, DirectX 12 is experimental, and kernel-level anti-cheat games cannot run on macOS.
The basic process is straightforward: download MaPC 1.0.6 Beta, move it to Applications, let it download its approximately 210 MB engine, connect a game store, install a title and press Play. The sections below explain the requirements, exact setup, graphics options, controller support, privacy, troubleshooting and alternatives when a particular game does not work.
What MaPC does—and what it does not promise
MaPC packages the components needed to run Windows game builds in a native macOS interface. After you connect supported stores, it combines their libraries so you can install eligible Windows releases without manually creating separate prefixes or configuring every translation layer yourself.
MaPC’s product description calls it “A native Mac app, now in public beta, that installs and runs Windows games from Steam, Epic Games and GOG on Apple Silicon Macs.” Public-beta status matters: the app, its engine and its game fixes are still changing, and a successful installation is not proof that every title will launch or perform well.

MaPC’s terms are explicit: “We don’t promise that any particular game will run, or run well.” Treat each game as an individual compatibility case. A title may fail because of its graphics API, launcher, copy-protection component, anti-cheat driver, controller handling or an update released by the publisher.
Requirements before you install

Keep more than the minimum free space when installing large games. macOS, the store client and a game’s temporary unpacking files can need additional working room even when the final installation appears to fit.
Install MaPC 1.0.6 Beta
- Check the Mac and storage. Open Apple menu → About This Mac to confirm an M-series chip, then open System Settings → General → Storage and verify that roughly 30 GB is available before adding games.
- Download the MaPC 1.0.6 Beta disk image. Open the downloaded disk image when it finishes. If macOS warns that the app was downloaded from the internet, confirm that you obtained the image from MaPC’s official distribution page and choose the macOS option to open it.
- Copy the app to Applications. Drag MaPC from the disk-image window to the Applications folder. Launching the copy in Applications prevents the app from being tied to a mounted disk image that may later be ejected.
- Allow the first-launch engine download. On the first run, MaPC downloads an engine of approximately 210 MB and performs an integrity check. Keep the Mac connected to the internet and do not quit the app while that check is running.
- Install Rosetta 2 if prompted. MaPC can offer to install Rosetta during setup. Approve the installation, authenticate with an administrator account when macOS asks, and wait for it to finish. You can also install it from Terminal with
softwareupdate --install-rosetta; Apple may ask you to accept its license terms. - Complete the initial setup. When the engine and Rosetta steps finish, MaPC opens its library interface. If the engine check fails, use the troubleshooting section below before attempting to install a game.
Connect Steam, Epic Games or GOG
MaPC supports three store connections in its current workflow. Choose the store from the setup screen or account area, and MaPC opens that store’s own sign-in page. Your password is entered on the store page rather than into a MaPC password form; MaPC states that it does not see the password.
- Select Steam, Epic Games or GOG in MaPC.
- Finish authentication in the store’s sign-in window, including any two-factor challenge.
- Approve the requested account connection and return to MaPC.
- Wait while MaPC imports the Windows games that the connected account owns. Large libraries can take longer to populate because cover art and store data are retrieved.
MaPC’s current support for Ubisoft Connect and the EA app is described as unreliable. A game that requires either launcher can therefore fail even when the underlying game engine would otherwise be compatible. Do not assume that owning a title in another launcher makes it available in MaPC’s combined library.

Install and launch a Windows game
- Open the combined library and select the game you want to test.
- Click Install. Choose the destination if MaPC presents more than one option, and make sure the volume has enough space for the game and its temporary files.
- Open the Downloads view to watch installation progress. Keep the store session active and avoid putting the Mac to sleep during a large download.
- When installation completes, click Play. MaPC selects initial graphics settings for the title.
- Run through the game’s own first-launch setup, such as an account prompt, shader compilation or video calibration. If the game reaches its menu, adjust its settings one change at a time and restart only when the game requests it.
MaPC’s automatic settings are a starting point, not a benchmarked recommendation for every Mac. A resolution, frame-rate cap or effects preset that works for one Apple Silicon model may be unsuitable for another, especially when the game is rendering through a demanding translation path.
Graphics APIs and per-game options
DirectX 9, 10 and 11
MaPC supports DirectX 9, DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 automatically through DXVK. The translation path uses Vulkan and Apple’s Metal graphics stack, so you do not need to install a separate DirectX runtime for these versions.
For an individual game, MaPC exposes graphics-backend choices and launch options. Depending on the title, you can also configure ray tracing, MetalFX upscaling and other per-game settings. Change one option at a time, record the original value, and relaunch the game after a backend change so you can identify which setting caused an improvement or regression.
DirectX 12 (experimental)
DirectX 12 is an advanced experimental option rather than a standard MaPC feature. It requires D3DMetal from Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit (GPTK). MaPC does not include, sell or license that toolkit, so you must obtain and install it independently and follow Apple’s license restrictions.

Use the DirectX 12 path only when the game specifically requires it or when its DirectX 11 mode is unavailable. GPTK installation adds another software dependency and another possible failure point. If a title has both APIs, test the supported DirectX 11 path first; it is the path MaPC handles automatically.
Anti-cheat and launcher limitations
Kernel-level anti-cheat
Games whose anti-cheat installs a kernel-level Windows driver cannot run on macOS through MaPC. macOS does not load those Windows kernel drivers, and there is no MaPC setting that can bypass the requirement. If the game’s publisher requires that driver for every online mode, choose a supported Windows machine or another officially supported platform instead.
Other anti-cheat and online checks
Not every anti-cheat system is kernel-level, but non-kernel systems can still reject a translated environment after a game update. A title that worked yesterday can stop launching when its executable, launcher or anti-cheat module changes. Check the publisher’s current platform requirements before spending time on graphics tuning.

MaPC says Ubisoft Connect and the EA app are not reliably supported yet. Launcher authentication loops, missing dependencies and update failures are common reasons for a game to stop before its main executable starts. When a title depends on one of these launchers, regard it as an unsupported or experimental case rather than a guaranteed installation.

Controller support and input setup
MaPC 1.0.5 Beta expanded controller support to DualShock 4, DualSense and Backbone One PlayStation Edition controllers. It also added a setting that maps those devices as Xbox controllers for games that expect Xbox-style input.
- Connect a compatible controller by USB-C or Bluetooth before launching the game.
- Open MaPC’s controller or input settings and enable the Xbox-controller mapping option if the game does not recognize PlayStation button layouts.
- Launch the game and verify every button in its own control menu. Some games display Xbox button prompts even when the physical controller has PlayStation labels.
- If input is intermittent, test a wired connection, remove duplicate controller entries in macOS Bluetooth settings and relaunch the game after reconnecting.
Controller support is still game-dependent. A controller can pair successfully with macOS while a specific Windows game ignores it, requires an in-game toggle or accepts only one input device at a time. Check the game’s input settings before buying an accessory; a Mac-compatible USB-C or Bluetooth controller is optional, not a MaPC requirement.
Privacy, accounts and network connections
MaPC states that it has no telemetry or analytics. Store login tokens remain on the Mac in a folder readable only by the user account. Protect that macOS account with a strong password and do not copy token files to another computer.

MaPC documents connections to GitHub for engines and tools, the connected stores for cover art and store data, Cloudflare for domain or email forwarding, its email provider and Gumroad for supporter-license checks. These destinations explain why a firewall may show more than one connection during setup or an update.

MaPC is not affiliated with Valve, Epic, GOG, Apple, Microsoft or CodeWeavers. Connecting a store account grants MaPC access needed to display and install your owned games; it does not transfer ownership of those games to MaPC.

The core MaPC application, store connections, engine updates and game fixes are free. Optional supporter packages add features such as save backup, playtime statistics, a keep-Mac-awake mode, shortcuts, menu-bar launching, Siri and Shortcuts integration, Retina-resolution support and a performance HUD.
MaPC’s page lists one-time supporter tiers beginning at $4.99. Pricing and included features can change, so verify the current package description at the time you purchase. Supporter features do not change the fundamental compatibility limits: they cannot make a kernel-level anti-cheat game run or guarantee a DirectX 12 title.
Troubleshoot common failures
MaPC will not open after copying it
- Confirm that you copied the app to Applications rather than running it from the mounted disk image.
- Control-click MaPC in Applications, choose Open, and approve the macOS security prompt if you trust the download source.
- Install pending macOS updates and restart the Mac before trying again.
- Verify that the Mac is Apple Silicon and running macOS 15 or later; an Intel Mac does not meet MaPC’s stated baseline.
The engine download or integrity check fails
- Check the internet connection and temporarily disable a network filter that blocks GitHub or MaPC’s download endpoints.
- Free additional storage beyond the approximately 30 GB baseline, then restart MaPC so the download can be resumed cleanly.
- Quit MaPC, relaunch it from Applications and allow the integrity check to complete without putting the Mac to sleep.
- If the failure repeats, note the exact error and MaPC version before contacting its support channel; repeatedly deleting random folders can remove useful diagnostic information.
The game is missing from the library
- Reconnect the correct Steam, Epic Games or GOG account and complete any two-factor authentication prompt.
- Confirm that the account owns the Windows edition and that the store has finished synchronizing its library.
- For a game obtained through Ubisoft Connect or the EA app, expect unreliable support rather than a guaranteed listing.
The game installs but crashes or shows a black screen
- Launch it once with MaPC’s automatic settings and wait for first-run shader compilation to finish.
- Try the supported DirectX 9, 10 or 11 path if the game offers one; change the per-game graphics backend rather than changing several settings simultaneously.
- Disable ray tracing, lower the resolution or turn on MetalFX upscaling to reduce graphics load.
- Remove custom launch options and test again after every change.
- If the title requires DirectX 12, install Apple’s GPTK and D3DMetal independently only if you accept the experimental setup and license requirements.
The game stops at an anti-cheat or launcher message
Identify whether the message names a kernel-level driver, Ubisoft Connect, the EA app or another required service. Kernel-level anti-cheat cannot run on macOS; launcher failures may reflect MaPC’s stated reliability limitation. Graphics settings cannot fix either condition.
The controller pairs but does not work in-game
- Enable MaPC’s PlayStation-to-Xbox mapping setting when the game expects an Xbox controller.
- Disconnect other controllers and input remappers, then reconnect the preferred controller before launching.
- Check the game’s own controller-enable option and test USB-C if Bluetooth input drops.
When to use another compatibility layer
If MaPC cannot run a title, compare the specific requirement with another Windows-compatibility product rather than assuming that a different wrapper will solve every problem. Useful comparison axes include launcher coverage, graphics-API support, anti-cheat behavior, setup effort, per-game tuning, performance, price and licensing.

Use MaPC first when your library is in Steam, Epic Games or GOG and the game uses DirectX 9–11 without kernel-level anti-cheat. Consider CrossOver or a native Windows installation when MaPC’s launcher coverage, graphics path or beta limitations block the title. Neither option can promise that a particular game will run.
A practical compatibility checklist
- Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) and macOS 15 or later.
- At least approximately 30 GB free, plus the game’s own storage requirement.
- Rosetta 2 installed and an internet connection available.
- Game owned on Steam, Epic Games or GOG.
- DirectX 9, 10 or 11 preferred; DirectX 12 treated as experimental.
- No kernel-level anti-cheat requirement.
- No dependence on an unreliable launcher such as Ubisoft Connect or the EA app.
- Controller connected and mapped in MaPC when the game requires one.
- MaPC 1.0.6 Beta and its engine allowed to complete downloads and integrity checks.
If every item matches, install the game and test it with automatic settings first. If one item fails, resolve that specific constraint or choose a platform that officially supports the game instead of repeatedly reinstalling MaPC.
