To improve frame rates in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on PC while keeping path tracing enabled, start with an upscaler and a more performance-focused mode, then try supported frame generation. If that is not enough, lower resolution and adjust other graphics options one at a time. CD PROJEKT RED warns that higher resolution significantly affects FPS and that results vary by scene and system, so compare the same gameplay conditions rather than relying on a single number. The developer’s current PC requirements page and NVIDIA’s Remastered coverage describe the relevant performance caveats and features.
Check that you are tuning the September 2026 Remastered PC release
The September 29, 2026 Remastered release adds path tracing to the PC game as part of a free upgrade, alongside broader visual and performance changes. Confirm that your game is on this current build before applying settings advice. The 2022 Next-Gen Update introduced a different ray-tracing and DLSS feature set, so its settings guidance and benchmarks do not automatically describe Remastered. CD PROJEKT RED’s release announcement identifies the current edition; NVIDIA’s 2022 update announcement is historical context.
Update your graphics driver as well. NVIDIA recommends its current Game Ready driver for the upgrade. NVIDIA’s Remastered feature notes describe support for DLSS 4.5, Ray Reconstruction, and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation.
Improve FPS in this order
- Enable the upscaler supported by your GPU. If performance remains below your target, choose a more performance-oriented mode. Change one mode at a time, then assess both smoothness and image quality in the same scene.
- Try frame generation if your hardware supports it. NVIDIA documents Dynamic Multi Frame Generation up to 6X on RTX 50-series GPUs for this release. That maximum is specific to the stated GPU generation and configuration; it is not a feature or multiplier to assume on other hardware. Generated frames can raise displayed FPS, but distinguish that number from the game’s rendered or base FPS when evaluating responsiveness.
- Lower output resolution if necessary. The developer specifically notes that higher resolution significantly affects FPS. Reduce resolution only as far as needed, checking whether the resulting image quality is acceptable on your display.
- Reduce other expensive graphics options incrementally. Change a single setting, keep path tracing enabled if preserving it is your priority, and repeat the same gameplay test. The official accessible requirements notes do not establish a universal setting-by-setting FPS gain, so treat each adjustment as a test rather than a guaranteed improvement.
- Consider a hardware or cloud alternative only after checking fit. A GPU upgrade depends on your existing hardware, target resolution, and budget. For cloud gaming, confirm that the service supports your region, the current game build, and the path-tracing features you want; a general statement that the game can be streamed does not establish that every cloud session exposes Remastered path tracing.
Test with comparable gameplay, not a single FPS reading
CD PROJEKT RED says its path-tracing performance figures were measured with upscaling and Frame Generation enabled. The developer also cautions that FPS fluctuates by scene and varies with hardware, settings, and resolution. To judge whether a change helped, use the same representative gameplay area, keep the resolution and other settings consistent, and note the upscaler mode and frame-generation state.

- Record the GPU, output resolution, path-tracing setting, and upscaler mode.
- Note whether frame generation is enabled and, if so, its supported multiplier.
- Keep base/rendered FPS distinct from generated/displayed frames; a higher displayed figure alone does not describe input responsiveness.
- Compare image quality and artifacts as well as smoothness, especially after changing upscaler mode or resolution.
How to interpret NVIDIA’s FPS claims
NVIDIA reports a maximum of up to 245 FPS at 4K on an RTX 5080 using Ultra+ path tracing, DLSS 4.5 6X Multi Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction. This is NVIDIA’s vendor-reported maximum for that specified setup, not a typical result, an independent benchmark, or a promise for other systems. Its other published maxima likewise depend on the GPU, resolution, and described technologies.
| Resolution | GPU | NVIDIA-reported maximum | Configuration context |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4K | GeForce RTX 5080 | Up to 245 FPS | Ultra+ path tracing, DLSS 4.5 6X Multi Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction; NVIDIA, 2026. |
| 1440p | GeForce RTX 5090 | Up to 420 FPS | With the technologies described by NVIDIA for Remastered; NVIDIA, 2026. |
| 1440p | GeForce RTX 5080 | Up to 320 FPS | With the technologies described by NVIDIA for Remastered; NVIDIA, 2026. |
| 1440p | GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | Up to 269 FPS | With the technologies described by NVIDIA for Remastered; NVIDIA, 2026. |
| 1080p | GeForce RTX 5080 | Over 410 FPS | With the technologies described by NVIDIA for Remastered; NVIDIA, 2026. |
| 1080p | GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | 380 FPS | With the technologies described by NVIDIA for Remastered; NVIDIA, 2026. |
| 1080p | GeForce RTX 5070 | 320 FPS | With the technologies described by NVIDIA for Remastered; NVIDIA, 2026. |
| 1080p | GeForce RTX 5060 Ti | 235 FPS | With the technologies described by NVIDIA for Remastered; NVIDIA, 2026. |
These figures are useful as examples of what NVIDIA says its specified combinations can reach, not as a direct prediction for your PC. Scenes, system configuration, output resolution, settings, and whether frames are generated all matter. The developer’s accessible requirements text does not provide the detailed hardware tiers shown in its embedded configuration table, so exact minimum or recommended GPU and CPU tiers should not be inferred from it.

Check Windows and storage requirements before troubleshooting further
CD PROJEKT RED’s current requirements page says Windows 10 is no longer officially supported or tested, although the game may continue to run on it; it also says an SSD is now required.
