What to expect from Steam Deck battery life
Slay the Spire 2 is Steam Deck compatible, according to Mega Crit’s FAQ. It is also an Early Access game; Mega Crit says player feedback will help balance content, add features, and ensure the game runs without issues. Updates may therefore change performance or power use. The Steam store listing identifies the game, but neither it nor the official compatibility information provides a tested battery-life figure.
Valve’s estimates describe the Deck models generally, not play time in Slay the Spire 2. Battery condition, brightness, wireless use, game build, and chosen settings all affect an individual session.

The battery capacities, gameplay ranges, and refresh caps are from Valve’s LCD specifications and OLED specifications. Valve’s estimates are broad model-level ranges, not a promise for this game. Its hardware page says lighter use such as small 2D games can reach approximately 7–8 hours on the LCD Deck, but that general example is not a Slay the Spire 2 test: Valve Steam Deck hardware.

Settings to try, one at a time
- Lower brightness. Reduce the screen to the lowest level that remains comfortable in your lighting. The sources do not quantify the battery effect for this game, so judge the change over your own sessions rather than expecting a particular number of extra minutes.
- Set a per-game frame-rate limit. Open the game, press the … button, and use the Performance controls to enable a per-game profile if available. Try a lower frame-rate target than you normally use, then check for stutter, uneven frame pacing, or sluggish-feeling input. Raise it again if the trade-off is unpleasant. No particular cap has been validated for this game.
- Lower the per-game TDP cautiously. In the same Performance controls, reduce the TDP limit in small steps, checking that the game still runs smoothly after each change. If it begins to stutter or feel unresponsive, restore the previous setting. There is no official optimal TDP or controlled game-specific test to support a fixed wattage.
- Remove avoidable power use where practical. Turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth only if you do not need the connection or an accessory. When pausing for a break, press the power button to suspend play; Steam Support describes this behavior in its Steam Deck Basic Use & Troubleshooting Guide. No cited source gives a battery-saving figure for suspend.
Changing one control at a time makes it easier to tell whether a difference comes from brightness, frame rate, or TDP. Compare sessions under roughly similar conditions; a different build, brightness level, wireless use, or battery health can change the result.
Keep refresh settings within your model’s limit
Use the Deck’s own refresh-rate ceiling as the boundary: 60 Hz for LCD and 90 Hz for OLED. Steam Support says the refresh rate can be lowered in device settings, but an application setting above the model’s cap will not improve performance and may drain battery faster. See Valve’s refresh-rate guidance. A lower frame-rate target is a separate experiment from the refresh ceiling; choose it based on smoothness and responsiveness rather than assuming a specific setting is best.

When a power bank makes more sense
Lower-power settings aim to make the internal battery last longer; a USB-C Power Delivery power bank instead supplies external power and extends the time you can play away from an outlet. Choose one with USB-C PD output suitable for the Deck. Valve lists 45 W USB-C PD 3.0 charging input for both LCD and OLED models in their respective specification pages. A power bank extends a session; it does not make the Deck’s internal battery more efficient.
For a quick starting point, identify whether your Deck is LCD or OLED, lower brightness, and then test a modest frame-rate reduction before adjusting TDP. Keep the settings only if the game still feels good to play.
