Also check that both earbuds seat correctly and that their charging contacts are clean and dry. Exact runtime and setting names vary by model, so use your manufacturer’s instructions for your specific earbuds.
Start with the case and charging contacts
Store idle earbuds in the closed case
Return both earbuds to their correctly matched charging case whenever you take them out, and close the lid. Samsung and Sony recommend storing their true-wireless earbuds this way; on some models, leaving the lid open or the earbuds loose can contribute to avoidable drain. Samsung also cautions against using a case made for a different earbud model.
Check that both earbuds are charging
Make sure each earbud sits properly against its charging contacts. If one does not seat correctly, it may not charge even if the case itself has power. Check the contacts for dirt or moisture and clean and dry them only as the manufacturer directs. Samsung recommends cleaning the terminals to prevent charging problems; cleaning can address a poor connection, but it does not restore an aged battery’s capacity.
Disable features you do not need
Optional features can affect runtime, but their impact and names depend on the model. For Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro, Samsung identifies auto-ear detection and ambient sound among settings that may contribute to battery use, and recommends turning off unnecessary features. For your earbuds, check the model’s settings and support guidance rather than assuming a control or battery effect is universal.

For a useful comparison, listen with optional modes disabled, then compare with your usual settings under otherwise similar conditions. Keep track of whether you are using noise control or ambient modes, taking calls, listening at a different volume, or dealing with a weak connection: these conditions can change runtime. Sony specifically notes that calls and a poor connection can shorten operating time on relevant products.
Keep the earbuds and case away from temperature extremes
Do not leave the earbuds or case in a hot car, in direct sun, or in very cold conditions. Samsung says extreme heat or cold can temporarily reduce battery efficiency and accelerate degradation on Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro. Sony also advises against charging or storing the headphones covered by its guidance in high temperatures. These are model-specific recommendations, so follow the instructions for your own product, especially when charging wirelessly.

If your case supports Qi charging, check the manufacturer’s requirements for the charger and setup. Sony’s cited guidance calls for a Qi-standard pad and notes that heat and case covers can matter for that setup. A wireless charging pad does not increase the earbuds’ runtime on a single charge; it is only an alternative way to recharge a compatible case.
Interpret runtime ratings carefully
Battery-life figures are manufacturer ratings for particular models and usage conditions, not guaranteed runtimes for every listening session. For example, Samsung US lists up to 24 hours of play time per charge for Galaxy Buds3 and up to 26 hours for Galaxy Buds3 Pro in its stated case and usage context. Those figures describe Samsung’s named models; they are not independent test results or benchmarks for wireless clip-on earbuds generally.

Check whether a model’s advertised figure refers to playback from the earbuds alone or total listening time that includes recharging from the case. Features, calls, volume, connection conditions, and how the case is used can affect actual runtime. Compare your own sessions under similar conditions rather than comparing unlike models or treating an “up to” claim as a promise.

- Identify the exact model. Find its model name and consult the manufacturer’s stated runtime and the conditions attached to that rating.
- Charge the set as specified. Charge the case and earbuds using the recommended method, return each earbud to its matching case, and close the lid when they are idle.
- Verify charging on both sides. Reseat each earbud and inspect its contacts. Clean and dry them according to the product instructions, particularly after sweat or moisture exposure.
- Compare listening sessions fairly. Try a session with optional modes off. Keep factors such as calls, volume, ambient or noise-control modes, and connection conditions as similar as possible.
- Check the environment and charging setup. Avoid temperature extremes and follow the model’s instructions for wired or wireless charging.
- Use model-specific recovery steps if the problem continues. Follow the exact product’s charging, reset, or initialization guidance. Sony lists charging, reset, and initialization steps for relevant products, but procedures are not interchangeable across models.
If runtime remains unusually short after these checks, contact the manufacturer or consult its exact-model support guidance. Batteries can lose capacity with regular use and charge cycles; Samsung describes this decline for Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro. A sharp change can also point to a charging or product fault. Battery service or replacement availability depends on the model, so verify it with the manufacturer before buying a replacement case or assuming the battery can be replaced.
