You can often improve daily battery life on an OPPO phone without turning off everything by first finding which apps are using power, then adjusting only the outliers. Keep background activity for apps that need timely notifications, and consider per-app refresh-rate choices or Power Saving only when their tradeoffs suit you. Menu paths and features vary by model and ColorOS version, and OPPO does not give a universal runtime gain for any one change.
1. Find what is using battery before changing settings
Start with your phone’s battery-usage screen and compare the results with your own normal use. A high figure is not automatically a problem: a game or video app can use substantial power while open, whereas an app you rarely use may stand out because it is active in the background.
- On ColorOS 14 and above: Open Settings > Battery, then scroll down to the Battery usage section.
- On ColorOS 5.1 and above with the older layout: Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app.
- Review apps’ foreground and background activity, and note any background use that seems out of proportion to how often you use the app.
- Check the screen again after a typical day before making another change; daily usage can vary.
These paths are from OPPO Support’s battery-usage guide. If a menu name or option is missing, use the guide for your exact OPPO model and software version; labels and availability can differ.
2. Restrict only apps that do not need prompt updates
Background activity can be useful: messaging apps and other services may need it to deliver notifications or sync promptly. Avoid applying a blanket restriction to every app if timely alerts matter to you.

Instead, use OPPO’s Phone Manager guidance to review auto-launch and power-hungry apps, then restrict background activity or auto-launch only for apps that do not need to update promptly. Afterward, check whether the app still sends the alerts or syncs you rely on. OPPO notes that background app restrictions can affect app behavior, so treat this as a targeted, reversible adjustment rather than a universal cleanup step (OPPO’s battery guidance).
3. Lower the refresh rate only in apps where smoothness matters less
If your phone offers per-app refresh-rate settings, use them selectively. OPPO documents 60 Hz, 90 Hz, and 120 Hz choices for apps in its ColorOS customization guidance (Customize Your Way with ColorOS). You could try 60 Hz for reading or utility apps and retain a higher rate for games, fast scrolling, or other motion-sensitive use.

This is a practical tradeoff to test on your own phone, not a guaranteed battery saving: the feature is limited to supported device and ColorOS combinations, and OPPO does not publish a universal runtime gain for each setting.
4. Choose a power-saving mode only when its restrictions fit

For standard Power Saving, the reduced brightness and limits on background activity and CPU functions are the tradeoff: use it when you can accept those changes, rather than leaving it on by default without checking what it affects. OPPO describes these effects in its ColorOS features guide.

Super Power Saving is much more restrictive. OPPO Support UK says it limits the phone to six selected apps, so it is better suited to emergencies than to preserving your everyday setup. That support page gives different activation paths for ColorOS 13–14, 15, and 16 and later; follow the instructions for your version rather than assuming one path works on every OPPO phone (OPPO Support UK’s Super Power Saving guide). Regional models may differ.

ColorOS 14 includes Smart Charging and an optional setting to stop charging at 80%, according to OPPO. These are described as ways to slow battery aging over time; an 80% charge limit does not mean the phone will last longer on the current charge. Availability depends on the model. See OPPO’s ColorOS 14 overview and check your own battery settings for the options.

OPPO also says its Battery Health Engine can help a battery retain 80% capacity after more than four years of regular use. That is OPPO’s own claim, not an independently verified guarantee for every model or owner (OPPO’s battery article).

A practical order for testing changes
- Check app battery usage and identify any outlier.
- Restrict background activity only for an app that does not need prompt updates; verify that important alerts still arrive.
- If available, try a lower refresh rate in one app where smoothness matters less.
- Use Power Saving when its brightness, background, and CPU tradeoffs are acceptable; reserve Super Power Saving for a genuine low-battery emergency.
- Change one setting at a time and compare against your ordinary use so you can tell which adjustment helped and which feature it affected.
