To host a YouTube live shopping event, first check whether your channel can tag products from a connected store or through YouTube Shopping Affiliate. Connect or qualify for the right route, allow time for product approval, schedule the stream, tag and order the products in YouTube Studio, then demonstrate them and answer viewers’ questions. Product tagging and availability depend on channel eligibility, retailer and delivery region.
Choose how viewers will shop
YouTube offers two main routes. Choose based on whether you are selling your own inventory or featuring other brands; the eligibility and setup are different.

Program availability, retailer access, and eligibility requirements can change. Review the current YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program requirements and the options shown in your Studio account before planning around affiliate tags.
If you want to tag Amazon products
YouTube’s current guidance requires creators tagging Amazon products to be in the YouTube Partner Program and YouTube Shopping Affiliate. In the United States, creators must also have an active Amazon Influencer Program or Amazon Associates account linked to their YouTube channel. YouTube says the Amazon tagging feature is also available to eligible YouTube Shopping creators in Brazil and India. Prepare the event and products
Connect the store and allow for review
If you are selling your own products, connect an eligible store and confirm that the products have been approved before relying on them in the event. YouTube says this approval can take up to five days. Build in extra time if the stream depends on a launch or a particular product being available.
Plan a useful demonstration
Decide the event’s purpose, product count, sequence, and pace. YouTube recommends a 30-to-60-minute shopping stream as guidance, not as a required minimum. Plan enough time to demonstrate each item meaningfully without rushing through a shelf of unrelated products. YouTube’s live-shopping tips are at Tips for selling your own products – Live.

For each product, prepare a concise explanation of what it does, how it is used, and what viewers should consider before buying. Choose products that will be prominent in the stream, can be used safely, and are genuinely relevant to the event.
Choose an encoder or a phone
Use an encoder if your production needs a computer-based camera, graphics, or more elaborate switching. A phone can suit a simpler, mobile demonstration. If you stream from a phone, YouTube recommends having a laptop or desktop ready to manage product tags and live chat. Decide who will monitor questions and product selection while you present.

Schedule the stream and tag products in Studio
- Open the live setup: In YouTube Studio, select Create and then Go Live. Open the scheduled stream or its management view.
- Find the product picker: Below the stream preview, open the Shopping tab.
- Add relevant products: Search the products available to your channel and tag the items you will feature. Remove products that no longer belong in the event.
- Set the order: Arrange the products deliberately and save. The order in the picker corresponds to the order shown to viewers.
- Plan featured items: Use the Shopping tab to pin products before or during the stream, following the current controls shown in Studio.
You can update product selections during a stream, but some viewers already watching may not see changes immediately. You can also add tags after the stream so products appear with the replay. For current controls and limitations, see YouTube’s live product-tagging guidance.
Run the shopping event
- Explain the event: At the start, tell viewers what you will show and how they can find the product list.
- Demonstrate in the planned order: Show the product clearly, explain how it works, and demonstrate relevant ways to use it. Keep the tagged item connected to what viewers can actually see.
- Invite and answer questions: Monitor live chat and respond to practical questions. If you have a co-host or moderator, agree in advance who will select or pin products and who will handle questions.
- Give clear shopping prompts: Tell viewers where the product is tagged and what to check on its product page. Avoid implying that an item can ship to every viewer.
YouTube says shopping-related videos accumulated 30 billion watch hours in 2023, according to YouTube Internal Data, Global, 2023, cited on its live Shopping basics tips page. That platform-wide figure is context, not a prediction of results for an individual event.

Use a product drop for a timed launch
A product drop is for a scheduled reveal, rather than simply tagging products already available. The setup route depends on the type of drop.

For a dated drop, align the date and time across the store, YouTube, and the product landing page. If they do not match, viewers may arrive at a page where the item is not yet available. Review YouTube Help’s product-drop guidance for current eligibility and steps.

Check policy, rights, and viewer availability
- Confirm tags can appear: Tags may not show on some claimed content, made-for-kids videos, content with limited or ineligible monetization, paid content, or content blocked for ads. Check YouTube’s current product-tagging restrictions.
- Clear livestream rights: You must own or control the rights to the stream or have permission for them, including any necessary public-performance music rights.
- Use accurate, relevant tags: Tag items featured prominently and meaningfully related to the broadcast. Use products safely; do not add unrelated items just to expand the product list.
- Disclose paid placements: Review your contracts and use appropriate YouTube paid-promotion and endorsement disclosures for sponsored content.
- Account for shipping: Product tags and product information depend on where items can be delivered. A viewer may see a shipping-area limitation, and a product available to you may not be purchasable in every viewer’s location.
